In this video we have a beautiful 2008 Toyota Tacoma Manual. I'll share with you a well preserved frame that was sprayed with fluid film from a very early age by the car care nut owner.
Also in this video I'll share with you some of the 2nd generation Tacoma Common Problems that you should know about if you own one or plan to buy one.

And back in 2008, American Toyota dealers didn't force you to pay for a 50,000 dollar trim package to get manual transmission. American Car dealers are disgusting today. The rest of the world has access to low priced Hilux with manual transmission.

You can Thank Obama for him passing laws on higher emissions. This is why most vehicles today are equipped with automatic transmissions. It’s far cheaper for an automaker to produce a manual transmission rather than an automatic, so in the end, a Democrat screwed over the American people.

My daughter just turned 16 and I purchased her first car, a Nissan Versa with a manual transmission. There were some tears shed as she learned and she wasn’t super excited to say the least, but she has finally improved and I think she is secretly proud of herself. There is a cool factor when you can do something none of your friends can do. She won’t admit it, but she likes it now.

Sadly, Nissan reliability has dropped to that of Chrysler/Dodge/Fiat and it started with Renault’s acquisition and all the terrible “Renault engineering”. Adding Peugeot to the mix just made matters even worse. Pre-Renault, Nissan could hold its own with Toyota and Honda. Now, not even close. Tell her to baby it or else a never ending repair bill will occur.

@@ozarkliving7263 I agree, but for under $5k and under 100k miles I couldn’t find anything. The stripped down Versa has a dependable 4 cylinder engine and a dependable manual. I had a really bad torque converter shutter . Transmission fluid flush , new filter, new transmission fluid lines were replaced , solved the problem. Toyota dealership quoted me over 5K for the new transmission torque converter. Friend of mine ( transmission specialist) took care of it for me for 600$ labor only. I bought all the necessary parts. 2008 Toyota Tacoma, V6, original engine, transmission. 350 thousand miles, it’s running like a champ. I just got back from Texas . 1900 miles one way. Overall I put about 4500 miles on it , in the span of a week or so. Impressive little truck. We love ❤ our Tacoma.

I had a 2008 crew cab, sold it with 349,655 miles. Toyota changed the frame at 298,000 miles under rust warranty. At that time I installed a rear axle from a 2014 as my father in law drove it too long with leaking axle seals and killed the carrier bearings. He was the prior owner. Aside from that, the alternator, starter, engine and trans were original. He does geocaching and that truck had been to 49 states…he would’ve driven it to Hawaii if he could. Great truck.

I've been lucky enough that my 08 Tacoma has spent some time in Tennessee and the midwest (St Louis area about 8 years) and now here in The Carolinas. And the frame is in great shape. But many of them did rust badly in salt belt states. Yes my truck had the leaf springs replaced before I bought it. I know because whoever did the recall didn't tighten the rear leaf spring bolts on the right side. Thank god I saw that bolt hanging out before I drove it!

Hi! I have a 2020 Tacoma and I want to make sure I’m taking care of it properly… I thought taking it to the Toyota dealer would be good but I’m quickly learning how dishonest they are! I have recently (last week) found your channel and subscribed. I don’t know if it’s too much trouble but could you do a video with a timeline/mileage where you tell people what maintenance they should be doing because I’m finding that I can’t trust the Toyota dealer. Not only do they not properly inform me on what I should be doing, they try to sell me products and services that I absolutely don’t need. Even just last week I caught the Toyota dealer lying to me again and I have a good mind to go back and yell at them. Anyway, I love your channel! Thanks!

I think in ur glove box one of the books there is a maintenance schedule, but some services are, oil change every 5k miles, differential fluid change HAS to be changed 30k you can extend the next differential fluid change after, transmission fluid change 60k, spark plugs 60k, coolant 100k and every 50k after that, air filter and cabin filter just take a look at them not really an interval.

@Frank Pratt The goal of all dealers is "their bottom line. A Toyota dealership license is a money maker. Toyota intentionally restricts the number to dealers. I refuse to purchase a jap auto since the dealers insist on attaching that hand written piece of paper next to the window sticker for nitrogen air and at least 10 more B.S. addons... like paint guard.. so a 50K dollar paint job is so krappy one needs paint guard.... HOW ABOUT APPLING QUALITY PAINT AT THE FACTORY. p.s MY 1993 cheyenne's frame is still solid and it has been driven in the Mid-west rust belt and PA. TOYOTA's are over rated.by those who want to sell the one they want to sell. Try and find a 30 yr old Tundra that was driven in the mid west or PA. Yes... at a scrap yard.

AMD, First of all, it is a relief to see your recent oil change video did not break the internet because it is going like a runaway train.😁It is also good to see a manual, made in California Tacoma on your channel! 🤩Even though it is a beautiful summer day, I am so glad we are talking about the Salt Belt and RUST today. In the Salt Belt, doing diligent mechanical maintenance without doing the required rustproofing makes as much sense as brushing your teeth 3 times a day but never flossing. I guarantee your teeth are going to get cavities and your vehicle is going to rust. 🤨 Congratulations to the owner of this 2008 Tacoma who has maintained it so well. Perhaps his daughter will pass it on to one of her kids some day. 😉

My uncle had one of these(06). It looked perfect outside. Interior was perfect. Frame even looked good from just bending down. You had to crawl under the truck and look at the inside of the frame near the front. It was completely gone. Like I could put my forearm into the hole bad. The rust was discovered in 2020 so past the warranty date. This was not visible at all from the outside or just squatting and looking. That experience alone has pretty much put this gen of trucks on a no-go list for me.

Thoroughly enjoyed the overview! Really nice looking Tacoma there with the manual shift! I first learned driving from my older bro's manual Datsun as a teen & glad I did. They're fun...bottom line! Got my son a white 2006 4runner Sports Edition with the scoop hood 2 yrs ago and that thing runs smooth as can be. The seller who had it before sold it dirt cheap since it had a check engine light and the tc shudder. Hooked up my scan tool and it was the downstream 02 sensor error that triggered CEL. TC shudder just needed a tranny fluid drain and fill along with the internal filter changed. Did all that and some other extras like both valve cover gaskets R&R, thermostat, front & rear rotors and pads, drive belt, all six plugs, etc and ran even smoother after that. Zero frame rust from NC and zero leaks. Thanks again for another enjoyable upload!

Your advice on the routine is noted in the owner's manual to exercise the ADD monthly, despite the warning on the driver's visor against activation on dry hard surface roads, is spot on. Straight ahead, ten miles a month. After arriving home, I noted the drop hanging from the AC condensate drain, traced the path to the puddle on the concrete where it dripped from the frame behind the right front door. Spot-on advice about the 2nd gen trucks. I love my 06 but it has had just about everything under the sun replaced. One other thing is if you start modifying the suspension (which many of us do) you should do the needle bearing bushing replacement for the FT DS. Very common to have issues with those once lifted. One thing I’ll add: the weak motor mounts on the 05-06. And I mean the motor mount perch off the frame itself. I found this out the hard way as I just bought an 05 with a tilted engine. I assumed it was just a collapsed mount, no big deal, drove fine, easy fix. What I found was that the perch had broken all the way around and completely collapsed into the frame. Toyota quietly added a reinforcement plate under this perch in 2007 I believe. No recall that I know of. There is a gusset kit available to reinforce/repair this, but you must remove the axles, steering rod, and front diff to get in there with a welder. Not exactly a fun time. It’s typically the driver side that goes first, and my frame is not rusty, so take a peek! Definitely easier to fix when they’re only partially cracked. Thanks for the great videos AMD!

Agreed. Manual transmission Tacomas are beautiful!! And with only 108k miles, it still has its whole life ahead of it. My third gear syncho needed to be replaced. Truth be told, I do drive the tacoma hard. So blipping the throttle and dropping into 3rd gear happened often.

You are right about never forgetting driving a manual transition. I haven't driven a manual transmission for over 15 years and I still hit on the imaginary clutch pedal in my automatic car when hitting the brake. 😆

This makes me miss my 2005 Taco Access cab TRD 4X4…she was also silver, my silver bullet Taco!! No issues for 10-years and I didn’t even know I didn’t have Iridium plugs!! I traded her for a 2014 Tundra TRD 4X4 in 2015 to pull a bigger camper.

Thank you for the great video. Any one with a 2011-2017 if you have not had your frame inspected by the dealership under the The extended warranty customer support program call your dealer to see if you can still have it done. If not I think you will forfeit the 12 year frame replacement extended warranty. We had our 2011 Tacoma frame inspected a coated at the dealer in 2020. Keep up the good work AMD and GOD bless.

Always loved manual transmission. I'm self taught! learned by taking my dad's jeep out at night when i was 13. Only got caught once, by the police, who followed me home while i drove the thing home, the good old days... and driving a right hand drive manual for the first time messes with your brain in a really fun way.

Did this truck owner get a new frame? My Dad's 2005 Taco had a recall on the frame due to it holding up terribly to weather/rust, and they completely replaced it in like 2015 or something. This might be something to consider. Keep up the great work! I love your channel, and it's helping me make sure I do all the right things with my new 2022 Taco TRD Offroad!

I loved my 2008 LSD/mechanical rear differential!! For my use was much better than a locker. I always noticed more rust/flacking in the bend of the frame by rear axle. The seperation caused by the curve seemed to cause it more. Currently own a 17 loved my 08 sport but frame felt like a ticking timebomb. Fluid filming my 17 a lot now!

I own a similar 2008 Tacoma TRD 6 speed manual trans. with a Warn winch, never got stranded out in the mountains. I keep the oil changed regularly as well(do it myself)...if I'm in a region where they salt roads, I take my truck to the local self car wash and spray down the undercarriage thoroughly on a regular basis, my frame is comparably rust-free. A couple of bucks at the car wash makes a big difference if you stay on top of it. Saves a lot of head aches down the road.

I had a 2008 TRD Off-road. In over 160000 miles the only thing I had do was a wheel bearing and an idler pulley. Rust belt truck that did not qualify for the frame replacement. Have a 2017 now and am keeping an eye on the issues that you mentioned in your 3rd gen video.
