I'm doing a land-turn-into-creatures Horde of Notions. Not really focusing on the grave part of it, though by happen stance most land based stuff are elemental. Use the bridges and creatures that give lands counters. Sac lands that happen to be creatures to get things like a grave pact to proc.

Especially if you use Ghost Town to ensure you can always have a land to put into play with the activation.

That card isn’t in the main set. It will probably get a discussion in a separate video on the precon commanders.

It is true that the precons are part of the overall set. However, the command zone tends to separate out discussions of precon cards from discussion of cards that are not in the precons.

im a bit sad the great work myrkul has been putting in to lift abzan is not mentioned here but i think its fair to say thalirog is pretty cool too.

​@Victor Bourguignon Myrkul really isn't the type of commander that can fill this role. It's interesting for what it is, but it's rise to the top of Abzan is really just because of how daft the pool of new options has been for them these past few years. It's much more like the Yurlok of Abzan than it is a resurgence for the color identity.

@@malmasterson3890 Perhaps though i do believe myrkul gives a lot of potential avenues for build without being to restrictive if you are looking for something not too competitive. Thay being said im also on your side, i do love seeing more attention go to abzan. Im interested in seeing whether or not they will keep the color pairing supplied with new and interesting options.

At least Abzan will get a precon with Commander masters. Maybe with the enchantment matters deck, the color combination will see some more love.

shes harder to build a deck around because her effect is based on your opponents creatures.

They strike me as a better card for the 99 than as a commander. I’d imagine that’s why they didn’t make the cut for discussion. They were very clear up front that they weren’t going to discuss every team-up creature in the set.

I already have 6 builds lined up for Thalrog and I didn't even consider Keyword Matters This commander is so awesome, and I'm definitely stealing this because having Odric, Gitrog Monster, and Thalia in a keyword matters deck is fun on so many levels lol.

If you could untap Quintorius, you could sacrifice a spirit for Worldfire and then do it again for Delayed Blast Fireball, letting you just KO the table in a single turn. It's a bit telegraphed though.

Because it says "when you do", it's what's referred to as a reflexive trigger, triggered by exiling 5 cards from your graveyard. the target isn't chosen until you decide to exile the 5. if it said "if you do" instead, you'd have to have a target in advance.

Yea I thought it didn’t work but it is a reflexive trigger so the target only needs to be declared after the payment, not when it gets put on the stack.

In all fairness, they don't usually go into how they'd build a deck around the alternate commanders. They usually just discuss them a small bit in concern to who is the best fit for piloting the deck, so it's only natural people would want to see a more in depth look at them.

It works because K&K's trigger is a "Reflexive Trigger." Reflexive Triggers resolve like this: First they have an optional cost you can pay to continue the effect. in K&K's case, it's exiling five cards when it ETBs or attacks. This first half of the ability goes on the stack and can be responded to. This gives you the opportunity to sac it to Altar of Dementia and mill six cards. Now you go to resolve the trigger, and you exile the five cards. This then puts a second trigger on the stack that's the second half of the ability. At this point, you're able to target K&K with the ability, since they're in the graveyard now. You can spot a Reflexive Trigger pretty easily, because they will always say "When you do, " in the text for the ability.

If the ability said something like "When Kroxas and Kunoros enters the battlefield or attacks, you may exile five cards from your graveyard, then return target creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield", you'd be correct that the trick with Altar of Dementia wouldn't work, because K&K wouldn't be able to see itself going to the graveyard in time to be the target.

Nine Fingers Keen can push that strategy further. Don't forget Abundance either.

@@eriksonsmyth2819 I have a nine fingers keen deck, its not good enough, she can only put 1 gate per combat damage, zimona and Dina can deliver a better version for this arcitatyp, or at least I think so...

@@user-dh2vg2mk3p I'm saying both. Keen adds draw power once you have 9 gates, making it easier to get to number 10

It’s once for each player hit with a dragon, so max 3. But if you can swarm with faerie dragons, you can kinda guarantee the trigger, so going wide is good.
