Looking for more potential big winners like RR, which I can't thank you enough for highlighting! Recently been looking at Capita recently. Badly beaten up since COVID but target prices are double the current share price. Some big management changes happened recently and cost cutting so hopefully it'll be back in the green soon. Bought in at around 22p a share hoping for 40p. Won't be as crazy as RR but 50% gains is good

Hi, SIPP this year did OK, watching the market ebb and flow like a sign wave! Dividends will roll in, best investments in financial PHNX and MNG, worst is VOD at the moment, but still paying strong dividend, just not going to reinvest in it. Looking to the future going to move into renewable, to diversify and form a monthly paying portfolio. Land securities will be in their as well, so will see how it goes in 24. Overall, up a little and hoping to reinvest dividends as the year goes. Take care M.

My portfolio is very similar to yours. I also started out in 2009 as a self styled dividend investor. Since the 2020 financial crisis (covid) I've diversified in to some US tech growth stocks. My portfolio is only worth 350K and also pays prox 1k a month. It pains me that if I'd only invested in an S&P ETF from the start, I'd have 700k by now. Can't complain, I'm still on track to be FIRE by the age of 45.

When I fill the ISA I'm kind of forced to buy low dividend payers outside the ISA and my S&P500 ETF fits the bill nicely. As my Barclays platform only allowed the trading of individual overseas stocks since 2022 I grew accustomed to focussing on the UK. I could have bought ETFs a lot earlier but I wasn't even aware of them until several years into my investing. I guess we are all wiser in hindsight. All the best for 2024

@@TheCompoundingInvestorThanks for the reply. Love your channel, it's nice to find someone who is on near the exact same investing journey as me. My first investments were in to UK bank stocks following the 2008 crisis (I naively thought they would recover within a short time frame) I'm still stubbornly holding them. I'm hoping due to this Covid induced financial reset they will finally start to grow in 24/25. Looking forward to seeing your future updates, I really like your dividend unboxing videos, they feed my passive income addiction.

Sipp! Buy same investments with tax relief. Buy more Croda and Diageo etc too.No need to be forced to buy low payers to avoid tax. I'm tending to mirror my ISA investments. If they go up I'll sell one either ISA or Sipp holding to secure some return. If BP hit £5.50 again I'll sell from ISA, transfer to Sipp and have it and 20% more to pop back into BP or others.

Thanks for all the videos this year, loving seeing the updates. I managed to just squeeze past the £1m mark on my pension and ISA investments this year but that’s due to mainly being invested in the Nasdaq 100 and S&P 500 which have done amazingly well in the last 2 months. I have about 18 uk individual holdings on top of the US ETFs for dividends that’s pay on average around £1k a month, although it’s very unevenly spread. This week I’m going to sell down some of my US gains and buy some more UK dividend stocks, many of which have been inspired by your videos and others on KZfaq. Keep up the good work and very best wishes for 2024 😊

Another fantastic video and congrats on a great year! I’ve only just investing in shares as I wanted to use high interest savings accounts to save up for my deposit on a house, but I’m already at over £19k in my portfolio because I follow the same great investment thesis. Looking at all the negative numbers in this video, it reminds of what Warren Buffet said. He said that you would be happy if the price of beef went down and you were a net buyer of beef, so why are people unhappy that the market goes down when they are net buyers of stocks? An interesting thought experiment that we investors must deal with. Here’s to a great 2024 everyone and happy investing!

Great video. A few differences to my approach and a few similarities. I'm moving my SIPP gradually to income and have a few chunky holdings to shift including a lucky punt on Amazon years ago. Nonetheless 2600 average a month in dividends all reinvested for now is a good result. Portfolio is about 30% ETFs, 30% Investment Trusts and 30% individuals like Lloyds, L&G, RR with some lucky ones in there too. I don't bother looking at performance just thinking about safe long term dividends so no renewables which I consider a fad. Keep sharing, production is become more professional each month.

A 9.6% return inc dividends is a good return on average but it does look low compared to the S&P500 this year. Thanks for watching and commenting Simon. Yes I would agree that for many companies in the FTSE 100 dividends are the greater driver than growth but nice to have a bit of both. I always find dividend income very motivating as its a tangible thing I see flowing in each month. When the ISA is full I have little option but to buy lower dividend shares outside of it. Excellent 🙂 Did you even pay £1 per share for Rolls Royce? I recall you were buying some when it went down to around 70p. I still think it is undervalued. As for me, I had been solely buying index funds (namely the VWRL), but I couldn't resist getting back into individual shares. I have Lloyds, Diageo, Unilever, GSK, BAE Systems, Croda, Pepsico, Target, American Express, Realty Income, AbbVie and Cisco. Plan to add some more companies in the new year when some of my savings mature. For some reason I can't stay motivated if I invest only in index funds, even though I know that's the more sensible option. Anyway, well done again. This portfolio is turning into a beast!

@@TheCompoundingInvestor Thank you. You too. I have seen some comments suggesting you move from Barclays. If you had a smaller amount, I'd definitely recommend coming over to T212 where I am. However! Every single person I know who has transferred their ISA to T212 had to start all over again - they weren't allowed to do an in-species transfer and it seemed to leave them in limbo for a while (as the transfer itself took weeks). I do hear that going forward, you will be able to do an in-species transfer, but it's still quite risky without knowing for 100%. I think if you invest large amounts at a time, HL would be a decent choice. If I could understand their fee structure, Interactive Brokers also looks good. Of course, you could open a new ISA for 2024-25 while still keeping all of your current holdings in Barclays. Up to you but I'd be careful transferring all those stocks over without a guarantee that you don't have to buy them all again.

Been a quiet lurker - but I enjoy the content and seeing your consistent journey and year on year growth of dividends is great! Over £1k in dividends per month now is great! Do you have a target dividend income you're aiming for? If you reach it will you be looking to pull the trigger going part time or retirement?
@TheCompoundingInvestor
@TheCompoundingInvestor 6 ай бұрын
No specific target but it would be great to one day for my dividends to exceed my full time wages. Not sure that will happen but I'm sure some people could do it if they started early and were determined enough. To answer your second question, I'm happy at the moment in my day job but you never know how things can change in the future. Having a stream of passive income does lift a weight off your shoulders because as you say you can go part time or give up some responsibilities if you want to. Having choices in life is a great thing.

@TheCompoundingInvestor
@TheCompoundingInvestor 6 ай бұрын
@NS-pt9rr It dosen’t make much difference. If you purchase the shares before the ex-dividend date you will get the dividend but the shares will fall in value by the same amount as the dividend (on the ex-dividend date). Having said this, in the early years I did buy slightly before the ex-div date for the motivational effect of receiving the dividend shortly after purchasing the shares.

@OneAndOnlyMe 6 ай бұрын
@@NS-pt9rr It really depends on what you think the share price will do, and whether you want to buy more shares when it dips. Typically a share price will dip around ex-div date. Share prices will typically reflect the outflow of capital paid in dividends around the dividend payment date. But remember also, whatever else might be happening in the markets could override these. I've seen time s when a share price continues to rise pot ex-div. Another thing to keep in mind is that if a stock has large number of institutional ownership, then the automatic dividend reinvestments can cause a momentary rise in share prices. I tend to wait a bit after div payment dates to reinvest, or I just wait until the next ex-div to buy more. There is less waiting time if it's a BP where the ex-divs are quarterly.

@TheCompoundingInvestor
@TheCompoundingInvestor 4 ай бұрын
For me there really are no rules to it. I don’t do it very often but oil shares can be very volatile. I expect shell and BP to have really good times and really bad times but you never know when or for how long. When they crashed during covid I loaded up several times as I knew it was unlikely they would go bust and they would eventually recover again. When they did recover they totally dominated the portfolio as I had put a lot in while they were low. Other cyclical sectors include the Housebuilders and miners. So difficult to time the market however so I just make small adjustments. I really don’t have any rule to it and don’t always get it right.

@TheCompoundingInvestor
@TheCompoundingInvestor 4 ай бұрын
@Justaleedsthing I’m not a fan of any rigid rule like a set percentage because I’m happy to have far more invested in a few companies I really believe in like Unilever and Diageo while others are more risky and I only want a small amount invested in them. As regards anxiety, I would probably have lots if I was investing in smaller more volatile companies but I generally invest in the big boring giants which just plod along churning out dividends. We all need water, electricity, fuel and medicines and we probably all have Unilever products at home. Unlikely to go bust and they are virtual monopolies. I don’t really focus on the portfolio size, I just concentrate on growing the dividend income as that’s the real motivation. I also invest for the long term and I eventually want to live off the dividends. I made sure all my debts were paid off before starting this portfolio. Give it a shot. After 25 years, you would still be looking at a pot of somewhere in the region of 150-200K, which could then net an income of about £6-8K per year. It will look very slow to start with, but somewhere around the half way point, you'd be able to add £250 on average in dividends to your contribution to reinvest per month. Equally, in that time it's likely you'll get some sort of increase to your main source of income as well, so you could save more as you progress. I feel such a fool it took me so long tbh. For stocks outside of ISA I transferred to free trade so I could sell out for free over time to avoid tax

@@TheCompoundingInvestor I'd also like to chime in here re T212 and larger portfolios - for ETFs it's ok, but for some shares you may want to check their maximum order and holding limit for any given shares. I think larger FTSE100 holdings will be fine as well, but some limits are almost arbitrary. You may wish to chat through this with their customer service team before making any in-specie transfer attempts. Having said that from 6 April 2024, you'll be able to subscribe to multiple ISAs in any given tax year as long as your contributions don't exceed the overall allowance limit. So you would be able to experiment with the platform before committing or initiate a second pot to reduce your overall trading costs. Expect the guidance to come out around budget time. It's such an obvious change, I don't think Labour or another Tory government would reverse it going forward.
