Video Information: “I don’t know how to be an “adult”
In this video I wanted to chat about expectations related to adulthood, and how I have, in some ways, not been able to live up to some of them. I’m quite disorganized and don’t work well under pressure. I am often told I am “childlike” in nature. I still enjoy many interests and activities I loved as a child, and in some ways, that has made others online speculate over my maturity or wonder if I have not accepted adulthood. In response, I wanted to share another perspective, that embracing who I am helps me be a more successful and content adult. I hope you enjoy this and share your own thoughts.

People who falsely accuse you of being “ childish “ are secretly jealous, that you have learned how to take breaks and enjoy life, because they, sadly, have forgotten how to feel joy, or relief. Encouraging one’s own joy is a skill and a discipline. Good job creating this space for yourself, and encouraging it in everyone. ❤

My suspicion is that the negative comments come from people who are doing similar footage on their KZfaq channel. Whatever their motive it's definitely not worth your time and energy to give it a second thought. The secret to transcendence lies in our childlike innocence. I love what U have to offer as do many others. KEEP DOING U. IGNORE the competitive jealous losers. 🌄😅👍🏽🌿🐰🐕‍🦺🌻🌼🌸

Overdoing the whole adulthood thing is a surefire path to Wage Slavery. I've noticed that without kids, without a car payment and with my debt low to zero, plus some savings, my conversatons with my employer(s) have changed quite a bit. Money that I don't spend I don't have to earn. With a little reserves, a self-employed side gig, a working spouse... interviews can be kind of fun. I have the resources to basically give two weeks notice at will to any employer if things become unbearable for any number of legitimate reasons. There is such a thing as "Employment at Will" states- well, I'd like to start pioneering the "Employment at My Will" employee.

@@ardentcerf6523 (all in my perspective, fine with arguing/discussing) Maturity is not acting serious, boring and never taking risks in your life, maturity is following your conscience, improving your conscience and not being afraid to fail, to make mistakes to improve yourself mentally and physically or your experience because you know everyone makes mistakes. When people are old, many have regrets such as never trying things in life because they were too scared of the consequences or possibilities. I am pretty confident there is a difference between actions that are blind vs spontaneity.

I suck at "adulting" and my mom calls it "Peter Pan syndrome" because I've just haven't really left my childish state of wonder. I'm made happy by the simplest things, lose touch with this reality and let my imagination wander. I'm so glad I found your channel and know I'm not the only one

I think people who lost touch with their inner child are sad. It's not actually a good thing. And the worst part is if they believe how they function is right and everyone has to function like that. Keep your feelings of wonder alive!

Hi! I’m not a specialist but the way I think about “Peter Pan Syndrome” is towards people who run away from basic responsibility, autonomy and self-care as an adult, expecting others to do everything for them and provide for them as well. However, an adult who is still curious and in awe and enjoys simple things like a ruler with cute characters or whatever is not someone with Peter Pan Syndrome to me, just someone who knows what they love and what makes them happy ❤

I'm 26 almost 27 and I often don't "feel like an adult" Adulthood is seen as paying bills, working jobs, setting goals and all other stressful things. When really....we're just here to live. To just experience and learn. Reality is just an illusion and is whatever we make it. Also....we're really only living for ourselves. People's words are just words unless we put meaning to it. So just do what makes you happy. It's your life to live, nobody else's.

Thanks so much for this reminder. I just turned 20 last week and was kinda afraid since on our twenties is put so much pressure to live a certain way. But I was thinking, 'stop giving a damn about what society tells you on what you should be doing at age xyz, it really does not matter...' I have only got one life and I am going to live it the way I want to. I want to enjoy every moment that I have got here and I think everyone else should too. At the end of the day we have only got ourselves and that is ultimately the person we have to or should be content with to live our best lives. Lots of love from another human on this planet earth. ✨💙🌼🏞🍀🌺

There is a world of difference between childlike and childish. To be childlike, I believe, is to be human, to wonder at creation, to play, to be curious and explore-all virtuous traits. To be childish is to lack responsibility. It appears that you are responsible, industrious, and conscientious. On another note, I will say that I never grew up until I had children. It is such a beautiful and heavy weight to carry.

Doing everything that's expected of you didn't take me a lot of brain power but protecting my identity has always been a challenge. Work towards it. I dare you! I lived vicariously, too. Now I live on 40 acre logging turned egg 🐣 🥚 farm. See my above comment about our enchanted forest. It's real. For a couple few years I had to come around to the idea and check it out and now we're raising our family on it. It's for real. Work toward it. Dare to dream. The cottage fairy and I are proof it really exists. I'm just an old mom now, but... I live this. Thanks in part to the inspiration I found on this channel just a short time ago. It never occurred to me them I might someday live like this. Or that it could be real. It is. It is real. I never thought we could raise kids like this but it's amazing for them so far. They have already made friends here. My 5 y/o fell in love with a ladybug our 1st day in the farmhouse. He made a bed for it in a small planter box housing a pathway night light with leaf comforter covers. And a tiny dandelion pillow. My sons race outside to see who can pick flowers for me first. 🌺 🌸 🌹 My daughter is an artist discovering design of nature through a photo lens now. She has taken our best nature pic here so far. She is 9. Of course they have real friends, too. They go to school... And activities like horseback riding, tennis, soccer, golf...dance... All the normal things even this small town can keep up with. But we get to weekend here hiking the trails... On or acreage ecosystem. This is real life!?!? I never knew it could be like this! For reals. It is. You can.

I'll go one better than this and say unequivocally that the adult world actually sucks. Plenty of reasons. Overwhelming doesn't even begin to cover it. We live in a world where some mentally ill whack job menace can shoot up an elementary school with an assault rifle- little kids are not safe in their classrooms. That is the point of complete and utter societal failure. It'll be interesting to see how much further civilization can break down. The Mad Max movie franchise is supposed to be dystopian science fiction, not a how-to or documentary. The Walking Dead is supposed to be a comic book, not a PSA for Kensington, Pennsylvania.

@@frayansertzraveThere is a song from a Dutch artist called 'goodbye little boy' from Robert Long. He sings about parting with his inner child. Somewhere deep down he is still there inside of him, looking at his adult self in the mirror but he lost the magical world where he was living in when he was a child. I was very moved by the lyrics. I had lots of difficulties with the transitioning to adulthood. I embraced my childlike side and come to terms it is my saviour in this world where I can loose touch of my senses if I didn't had that in my life. I am not 20 anymore but still love this childlike side of myself. Not hiding it anymore, as when I do I would loose a part of my identity, my lifeline when anxiety strikes, and the meaning of life will be lost. I will never part with the childhood in me.

The modern “adult” world is so hostile to the average person’s well-being, you just have to look around to see what it does to everyone. I think Paola so beautifully embodies that core spirit which is one of seeking joy and seeing beauty in the world around her for when we see beauty we really are seeing the face of God in all things. Adulting these days adds up to constant competition. Competitions in every realm for every thing. It’s exhausting. And when you point out that it’s irrational or unreasonable, you get gaslit that somehow “the way things are” is better, or how things “should” be - when we all know that’s not true.

So many people say to "act your age" when that is so hard to even do when becoming an adult is giving up your life to a corporation so you can make below minimum wage. Yes, I am going to college, but I am getting these degrees so I can make my own sanctuary for animals. To be lost in a forest and not have so many worries. This is why I love your channel so much. In this video I wanted to chat about expectations related to adulthood, and how I have, in some ways, not been able to live up to many of them. I’m quite disorganized and don’t work well under pressure. I am not efficient or even good at being productive (I cannot even follow a schedule, to be honest). I still don’t feel like I know what I’m doing half the time. I am often told I am “childlike” in nature. I still enjoy many interests and activities I loved as a child. This has made others online speculate over my maturity or wonder if I have not accepted adulthood. In response, I wanted to share another perspective, that embracing who I am helps me be a more successful and content adult. I hope you enjoy this little ramble and share your own experiences ❤

Dear Paola, I must say this video resonated so much with me today especially. I have been following you for some time now and I can honestly say with full certainty that you were able to get me out of my "being-an-adult-exlusively" shell. I am a 36-year-old mother of two young children and wife and I can honestly say that life does take its toll upon you. But yes, I find solace in seeing the wonder in this "mundane" and mostly negative-oriented life. By applying this wonder to my own life I try to inspire and help other people and I must say that however little effect it has on their day, I have noticed that yes, showing small acts of kindness and understanding is mostly all the things people need to hear or feel in their day to make it more bearable. Keep up inspiring me and others. I am in love with everything you do and project. Thank you! Have a good day (or night!) :)

Why would I want to be an adult? Maybe besides good new experiences. I don't know how taxes work. Also last week when I was at a restaurant I asked for paper and crayons so they gave me some. I don't care what others say (well sometimes I do but I try not to) it has a fun crossword puzzle and tic tac toe and a hidden character. Plus I could play hang man and draw whatever I want. I still like to go to playgrounds and making fun crafts. I'm not going to stop being me just because I've survived long enough to become hairy. Although people around me have already started dating someone, got a drivers license, and a job. And I kinda haven't yet. I'm worried that I won't be good at adulting. I love this! And just for fun, I would like to question what the definition of mature is. And perhaps, even redefine it! In this sweet quote you share, being mature means growing up to lose your wonder, which is how many people seem to define it. Yet, what if maturing also allowed space for our wonder to be prioritized too? It is people like Paola who shows us how mature someone could be with child-like wonder. By my own definition, I believe she is even more mature than the average “adult” who is too serious. Perhaps it is the ability to let ego take a seat. Rachel, I absolutely agree. Perhaps the quote would better be, “How we mature is optional.” Growing older, and maturing can (and certainly should) bring at least some degree of wisdom. You’re right in that maturing should not cause us to lose our childlike sense of wonder. For me I think it has deepened my sense of wonder. The Norwegian singer Aurora I think captures this thought in her song, “Through the Eyes of a Child.”

I genuinely don’t want to be an adult, I’m 19 and i still have the mindset as if i were still a child. I hate the pressure from some of my family members saying that just because i’m 19, means that i immediately have to get a job and get ready to move out on my own. I don’t want to do that, i don’t have a problem with getting a job but, i don’t want to be out in the world on my own

At 53 years old I still have a whimsical child like mind. I have a small collection of stuffed animals that all have names and personalities. When life gets chaotic and adulting is too much, I can retreat into my room with my things and be safe and have calmness and inner peace. Thank you for showing that it's ok to unplug from the world, if only for a little while.

Our childhood reading helps to shape who we are as adults, and books we live stay with us our whole lives. . You are an adult, and more mature than many, in understanding the beauty and wonder of nature, and its magic. You are doing all you can to be kind and nurturing our world, which many adults seem intent on destroying. The best adult. I can't thank you enough for making your way to me. I'm 66, and mankind gets too much at times, with how cruel it can be. We need millions more Paolas to get us on the right path again. Although i'm not an adult, but soon to be (after all, years go by pretty fast!), i felt this video in my soul. A lot of people had always noticed my childish and kind nature, and even after all of this time growing up, i'm still pretty much the same person! I still enjoy some things i liked when i was young - or at least what society thinks it's labeled for kids, like going on playgrounds, watching kids shows, playing with plushies and anything of that nature. I've had people question why i'm like this. To be honest, i'm not entirely sure… One day i thought being this way was pretty neat, and it made me happy, so i decided to stay like this! I'm glad that i did, because not only it makes me feel happy, but it makes others happy too! Something that i promised myself is that i'd live to spread happiness to others, and by just being myself i'm able to do that! Like… People literally said that themselves! Even my friends!! My family too!! I never plan on changing the way i live. I forever want to be like this, and i want to share all of this kindness and purity to others. Watching this video was super delightful!! ♡

I am 40 and I majorly failed to fit into this society at all. I tried to be someone to act like someone who can fit in but I never did regardless how much I tried and how much I put a lot of effort into doing so. Honestly these days I literally do not care anymore. I do not even wanna be a part of this "so called society" anymore looking and watching how cruel and disgusting most people are to each other and the world we live in. @@walterharris4681 Honestly mate I avoid people at all cost these days. In the past I wanted to fit in but now I do not even care anymore. I am glad that our roles (my wife and I) are totally switched because I do everything at home, clean, cook, buy our groceries and my wife only has to focus on her job and at home she can chill and mate I am happy with that more than I ever was before. I do not have to face crappy people who drain my energy and put me down anymore and I can focus on my hobbies, art etc. I just hope to find something small on the way in my life maybe with my Art working from home (which would be the best) to have more money on my own. Right now I get some support not much but for me enough from the state but honestly I would always choose this type of life style because most people and the pressure from society are just the worst. We force ourselves to live a life we do not even want to live it that way. We are working towards days we retire not even knowing if we even reach those days or in what mental or physical health state we reach it. Living like that makes no sense. We are buying stuff we do not even need to justify a life we do not even want or a job we absolutely hate. But material stuff only makes you happy for a blink of an eye and then the whole circle starts all over again. And in the end you are never really happy or satisfied. But when I was facing people, jobs or school I witnessed all from not finding a common ground with them, never really felt as a part of their crowd, knowing they were talking behind my back about me, clearly mobbing me (especially in school). Later in life because I am tall and looking like a tree they never dared to mock or mobb me but still I knew they were talking behind my back and I wasn't able to keep any job on a long term. Most jobs I lost already after 3 months. And at first when you are young you think all the fault is bedded on your side. And this can and will hurt yourself and how well you feel with your self a lot. But the day will come you notice it is not you it is them. And the only thing you can do is to avoid "them" as much as you can and live your own life how you want it.

My advice was to not be in a hurry to exchange innocence for wisdom, as I believe I was happier when I was young and innocent, and saw beauty in every direction, while I failed then to see the spiritual ignorance in the world, that can now appear so unattractive. This reminded me of when I was young. My uncle would always bring home books containing local folklores and fables; after he finishes all of them, he'd give it to me. I was a lover of fantasy, befote I became too aware of the reality I live in. Now, I'm a young adult and it feels like I'm meeting that inner child, sharing stories with each other and memories of who I used to be. The very beautiful thing I've ever realized was that, that child inside me remained dreaming and fantasizing about the places we could never be in, and I am an the older self who now knows how to manifest that imagination into reality through arts. Thank you for this video! I never really thanked my child self about the things that I am capable now, and I had that epiphany only today. The child me will remain a child forever and I should nourish who she is; I should never see her as 'was', but a part of me who keeps reminding me that, somehow, I still want to step on those crunchy, dead leaves even though I'm near my 20s.
