I like how you point out that he starts out by talking about how hard life has been for him, but then, by the end of the song, he is saying how he will take what is his from life no matter what it throws at him. To me, that is the central message of Ren's music: that life is what we make it, no matter what obstacles we face

I found you two on a Ren video and had to immediately subscribe. You are a beautiful couple and perfectly articulate your feelings and reaction to the songs. "Bongo Bong", "English Man in New York", or for some great reggae, listen to their mash up of "I shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop". It really shows the versatility of Ren. One more recommendation from a different genre, check out a band called "Dirty Loops" They are amazing musicians and don't have to worry about blurring your screen as copyrights have never been an issue. Some songs to check out are "Work Shit Out", Next to You", or "Follow the Light". They also do a great cover of Michael Jackson's "Thriller". I know you probably get a million suggestions but even if you don't want to react to Dirty Loops, do yourself a favor and check them out. They are just that good.

My understanding of pupils dilate in the dark is that it's a double entendre. Pupils are both eyes, and students. Dilate is both to widen, and grow. The Dark is both the night, and the hardships. He's giving the impression of eyes with his hand, but he's really referring to the students. Students grow in the suffering. In other words, you learn best from mistakes, you grow from hardship. He echoes this sentiment just a few lines later with "Geneses, pain in the art." All good artists are destined to suffer.

Large dilated pupils can be a symptom of anxiety and depression. Ren will be aware of this and so has linked dilated pupils with the ultimate consequence of depression. Just another amazing lyrical connection by this gem of an artist!

It feels like a metaphore for a missed opportunity, "[What if] Noah was late for the ark?" that could symbolize Ren's feelings like he was minutes late to stop his friend from jumping off a bridge into a river never to be found again. One of my favorite Ren tracks, but one of the ones I understand the least. The verses are pretty straight forward (+ straight fire), but the hook is opaque. Why Genesis? The beginning of what exactly? In what sense was Noah late for the ark? Is he Noah? Was he late for his salvation? Is it his late diagnosis? But if so, why bring in the story of Noah at all; how does the story of Noah in Genesis relate to his personal struggle? I’m not convinced that any of these questions have good answers.
