You're going to think I'm crazy, but I sleep better in the truck than when I'm home in my big bed. After 26 years of running team along with running 80% each month it's really hard to sleep at home.

Hi guys, I've said it before & I will never understand the thinking of shippers, but especially receivers... "We need it - NOW!" Then you get the load, get there & they (try to) make you wait... for hours or days, or make you make 'an appointment' for 3 items that take 5 minutes to unload... just dumb! Back in the day, when I ran full loads - I had a full load of shrimp going to 3 stops in NJ, Philly & Boston. That went fine. I finished & went to a truck stop for about 8 minutes when all hell broke loose, my company was sending me "urgent call back" msgs., etc. When I called, they had this "emergency" load that had to be picked up 3 miles from where I was (no problem) & had to deliver near Atlanta @ 8am the next morning. Had-to!!! I had the hours, picked it up, & hauled butt & got to the delivery point @ 630, 1-1/2 hours to spare, poured myself into the sleeper... my alarm woke me up 15 min early. No one's @ home... @ 8am - still no one there... what the... called the company, told them I was there, company calls consignee (answering service), who had no idea of any delivery or order... they showed up an hour later, & just shrugged their shoulders & said, we can unload you in about 3 hours..." Folks, there was literally nobody else there to make deliveries! No one! When I mentioned it was 1 (that is - one) box that weighed 84 pounds, they didn't care. They cared 10 minutes later when my company called back, along with the broker & told them there would be a $1000 per hour detention additional charge from the appointment time (already spelled out in the contract) if they didn't get that box off of the truck within 15 minutes! It was gone in 3! Why pay extra for expedited or 'emergency' service then have appointments, or not accept the load as soon as it is there, even if 2 days early? That"s the point of 'expedited', isn't it? Or is my dictionary broken again? Now, there is another side of that coin... I used to run a lot of loads out of Fed-Ex & USPS facilities. What ticked me off about those, is that the load was ready, they let you hook up.. the paperwork was done, but they would refuse to "release" the load until the last minute! After waiting for hours!!! Which meant you had to run like hell to get there on time. It also meant you had virtually no time to stop, use a restroom, eat, shower, fuel up, etc. If you broke down, or ran into weather, you were automatically late... I was at a facility in PA, & a huge snow storm was headed that way in 3 hours. Load & paperwork ready & they refused to release it for 5 hours; even after telling them that I could avoid the storm completely by leaving immediately since it was going south. They didn't care either. Called my company, who told to either release it immediately or unload OUR trailer & they would cancel the contract. I was on the road 10 minutes later, never saw a hint of snow, or rain since I was well ahead of the front. Sometimes it just takes well-backed threats to wake these clowns up. I often wonder if companies literally go out out of their way to find the dumbest people to run shipping departments. It certainly seems that way when about 85% are totally clueless & devoid of any common sense, about 10-12% are decent, but still have dumb days & just a few actually do it right almost all of the time without hassles, mistakes, or stupid policies that make everyone's life a living hell. Here, I'll step off & dust off the soap box for ya... haha. Thanks

I rarely write nice comments. But you two are the happiest couple I've ever seen on KZfaq. You're an inspiration! I drove otr twenty years ago but decided home was more important. Most couples don't survive long in a truck but you two are rare. Come to Minnesota in the summer and I'll show you great fishing 🙂.

I understand your position but as an older retired guy, FB has allowed me to reconnect with many old friends. I was heavily involved in auto racing and it's allowed me to communicate with both old friends, acquaintances and people I only knew by their race cars. It's been a positive for me in that way. I've been able to meet up with several people because of FB. So for me, more of a positive and can also live vicariously through some of my old friends while they're at the races. To use an old term, it's been a great networking tool.

I believe that FB is what you let it be. If you can control your time on it and unfollow negative and false folks you can use it for what you need from it. If it becomes a stressor for me I take it off my phone for awhile. I have reconnected with some long lost family. I give folks 3 strikes and then I unfollow. If you can’t control yourself then Facebook is the least of your problems.

@catmodelt Dear Cat. I will be honest and say that once a month I go to my facebook page and look around for maybe fifteen minutes, hoping to hear from people I haven't seen in years. All the political bs I just delete. I do have three cell phones, currently all inactive and in a drawer somewhere. If I take a trip to an unfamiliar town, I will activate a phone using Straight Talk for a month, then the phone goes back into a drawer. My 30 year old princess phone hanging on the wall still works, and if friends want to contact me they know the number and my email.

It winds from Chicago to la, More than two thousand miles all the way. Get your kicks on route sixty-six. Now you go through Saint Louie Joplin, Missouri, And Oklahoma City is mighty pretty. You see Amarillo, Gallup, New Mexico, Flagstaff, Arizona. Don't forget Winona, Kingman, Barstow, San Bernardino. What happens if you have a load and you breakdown? Do you find another shipper ?
@TheCraftyTrucker
@TheCraftyTrucker 3 жыл бұрын
Depends on when the load is due to be delivered and how fast the issue can be resolved. If it needs to be there before you can get repaired usually they look for another truck to recover the load.

“Just back to Illinois, Lock the front door, Oh Boy!” (Credence Clear Water Revival) As a native Illinoisan, thank you for not pronouncing the “s” at the end of Illinois! You can always tell someone who’s from out of state if they pronounce the “s”. 🚛💕

People wanting to know what you make expediting or trucking in general also need to consider your time off. When your not working your not only not making money your spending it. The more time you want to be off to go home or vacation the less you’ll make . You do best if you get in a mind set to stay out and work longer periods of time between home time. Some people want to go home every couple weeks but consider that makes that week small and then you spend next week getting back In The groove only to cut the third week short again. Just to get a couple days off I think the more successful drivers are those who stay out 4 to 6 weeks or better then take your time off all at once enjoy a whole week off and get to actually enjoy your time too . Not sure what to expect the first of November Were going home to vote and see how things look before deciding to come back out. I really want to hope the people will keep it together no matter how the vote goes. but it is scary the destruction and riots we’ve seen this year already. Stay safe out there

That’s a great point Tani. If those wheels aren’t turning you ain’t earning 😉 Have a good time off & we hope people don’t loose their minds either.

Seems to me that in trucking as in finding your handsome prince ya gotta kiss a lot of frogs before you find that job that suits your style and needs. Hauling cheap freight under cuts and hurts all truck drivers.

I noticed I haven’t been seeing your videos so I checked and for some reason I apparently was unsubscribed by KZfaq? Has anyone else complained of this happening?

Sorry that happened! KZfaq has a way of doing that from time to time. I’ve heard others say that’s happened to them too.
