The biggest myth in skateboarding is that when you get to your mid 20s you’re supposed to start feeling pain, soreness and have less energy when you skate. You’re supposed to be losing tricks. Warming up should take 30 mins and your hips should feel stiffer than a metal pipe. This is a LIE. You should be feeling and skating at your BEST in your 20s and 30s and in this video I tell you how to make it happen.

45 in a few months , had a skate other day at the park first time and I was fine . Legs aren't use to doing ollies , but a few more goes at the park and they will be fine . I feel over once doing a smith in the bowl when it hung up and it hurt like crap and got back up and did it second go . Sure it does get harder when you are older tho . But I'm not going to throw myself down a huge set of stairs anymore . I was skating earlier this year and broke two ribs drunk doing a kickflip when it shot out from underneath me . I decided not to drink when I went for a skate this time and I was fine . But people shouldn't rek their body to prove a point , really need to look after ya self as you get older . I started running and using a kettle bell . The knees are the first things to go lol . Lets just say the knees aren't what they use to be . Stomped one too many tray flips when I was younger , my right nee is a bit funny . Probably invest in some knee support . Also taking fish tablets and some protein mix . Also cutting back on the booze is good for the bones and heart etc obviously . You can still fun without drugs and booze , who would of thought lol .

49 here... Still skating at least once a week. Getting older is tough but still just as much fun as when I was 15 years old. "Learn how to pick your battles" that's also another way to stay out of injuries. Great video as always!

GREAT video. 49 and skating 2 - 3 times a week. Taking care of yourself and exercise between sessions is essential as you get older. No matter your age, listen to your body and rest when you need to. That’s the hardest thing to do because I want to skate every day 😄.

I’m 36 and started skating again 5 years ago. Used to think I was old and couldn’t handle the punishment till I seen that interview with Reynolds. Inspired me to just keep pushing and within 6 months was able to skate 4 or 5 days in a row like I was a teenager again

As far as I’m informed Reynolds got clean and sober too. I stopped drinking 3 years ago and my skating got way better since then. Turning 36 soon and I skate almost every day up to 3-5 hours. Keep up the good work my man. Really appreciate your work ✌️

as a PT and a skater, this video is everything I vouch for. It's better to rest and recover, then build up their healthy baseline of performance intensity. I like how you show it in a non linear graph of intensity (periodization like mesocycles), because thats the same way any other athlete would look at their performance.

I think my worst years of skating were probably 29-34 because I ate like crap, didn't exercise much outside of skating, and drank a lot of alcohol. I changed everything (for the most part) about a year ago and now I'm skating and putting together my personal best skate part ever to be released in September when i turn 37. All of this stuff makes such a huge difference on your body as you age, but I plan on skating well into my 70s+. Awesome video and great info dude!!

In Spring of 2023 I quit exercising, sleeping well, and eating healthy and I felt like I aged by ten years in the matter of four months. Once summer hit, though, I began going back the gym, eating healthy, and ensuring a good nights’ rest and I bounced back and regained my youth. The gym was a massive factor in the longevity of my muscles and overall flexibility. I used to put my body through destructive exercise alone (skating) where I was twisting and landing and rolling on rough surfaces and with that being the majority of my exercise it made me SORE. But then I started building muscle by going gym 3-4 times a week and by the time I would skate I would feel broken in and loose. Also, use discernment with what you do as you get older; be aware that your body requires different things of you as you age, pace yourself instead of maxing out your levels all the time. I had an incredible session with a friend of mine recently for the first time in over six months. The difference between the session we had a long time ago and the recent one is I walked away feeling refreshed and not worn out. Neen Williams was on to something, frfr

Individuals are usually at their overall physical peak at 35. I am 45 and skate 3-4 hrs. daily. I just started back up about a year and a half ago. This is coming out of severe PTSD and being bedridden, basically, for 10 years. I don't have any soreness because I skate every day, and I recover quickly, too. I get sun on my skin (Vitamin D absorbshion) exercise and stretch in the morning (nuro chemical and physical health), eat natural foods, and I get sun on the rods and cones (colored part) of my eyes for 35 minutesa a day facing the sun (this helps with balancing neurochemicals and improves sleep a lot), also no alcohol or drugs, except a little greenery here and there. I did start TRT (testosterone replacement therapy), just to get my levels back up coming out of PTSD, but the Dr. will be taking me off because I can raise my levels normally now. Keep in mind, I was doing all of this without T.R.T for about a year. The only reason I mentioned it is that T.R.T. may help some get back to a healthy baseline whether or not they need to continuously stay on it or not. You didn't stop skating because you got old. You got old because you stopped skating - Tony Hawk -

Oh, full-spectrum anabolic amino acids, from a vitamin store, 3 times a day will greatly decrease healing time, increase energy levels (mentally and physically), and more. Check out the "Better Guard", developed for basketball; which stops rolled and broken ankles. It doesn't limit mobility and isn't bulky. It's basically a heeless! toeless thick sock with a seat belt to stop your ankle from rolling! I think they should start advertising in skateboarding.

Great points mate totally agree, but I feel you kind of dismissed the importance of stretching a bit. it definitely isn't the answer in of itself, but in addition to supplemental exercises, stretching is fkn great! I'm 50 and have been skating most of my life. about 15 years ago started realizing I couldn't go all out and recover in the same amount of time. discovered stretching and it made a world of difference. a few years after stretching, I started working out again along with stretching and eating healthier it was like I was 10 years younger. bonus, it also makes my job and Jeet Kune Do training a lot easier. I do full body workout and stretches, but put emphasis on those that help my skating, like sqats and frog jumps. doing jogs that really get my knees up. Also, warm up with light stuff before doing more intense tricks, stay hydrated and have some complex carbohydrate before I skate. then I try to gradually wind down a skate session and do some light stretching again, try to get some protein before I sit and rest or go to sleep. greatly reduces recovery and helps keep my joints and muscles optimal. I don't know how many more years I'll be able to skate, but definitely wouldn't be able to do it now if I didn't stay fit. Dude love what you do, bringing science to skating. understanding physics and leverage helped me with ollies when I was 12, lol. Keep rolling mate! 🛹👍😎👍

I’m 45 and skating twice a day some days. I stretch a few times per day, eat mostly vegetarian, and drink just a couple beers per week. Do a lot of mountain biking also. Last month I watched Kelly Slater compete at Pipeline at age 52. If you take care of yourself you can go really far. I’m a much better athlete now than as a teenager, even though I was nationally ranked in two sports with three state championships to my name. If you put in the time it will pay off.

Stop thinking that man coz you're still super young. The thing with heel bruises is they can take quite a long time to recover, especially because with skating you often hit and damage the heel again before it's fully healed. Give this one a month where you really do your best to avoid hitting it again.
