I think Botswana also has the advantage of not having been a British Colony, but rather a protectorate so in a way it’s people didn’t suffer as much oppression as their neighbours

In perspective. Populations: Lagos (Nigeria 15 million people), Houston (Texas, USA, 2.2 Million people), Nairobi (Kenya, 4.4 Million), Botswana (whole country, 2.6 Million people) GDP (Gross Domestic product or annual income of an area for whole year): Lagos, $509 Million, Houston, $160 Million, Nairobi $269 Million, Botswana (whole country) $17,600 Million. Average income per person (take GDP and divide by population of the area) Lagos $231, Houston $73, Nairobi, $61, Botswana $ 8,000. Conclusion. To succeed as a county you need: 1. Good leaders. 2. Plenty of natural resources. 3. If you don't have number 2 you can replace it with good human resource. Japan and South Korea have shown the way. The latest is Vietnam. Fun facts. Botswana is the only country with two Sirs. Sir Seretse Khama (first president) and Sir Quest Masire (second president). The other african sirs were Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa (Nigeria) and Sir Dawda Jawara (Gambia). If you lived in a British colony like me or you are a member of the British commonwealth you will be aware that Sir and Dame are very important titles. The title is conferred by the British King or queen. The country has been blessed with good leaders since independence. It ranks highly on the corruption index. Corruption is not tolerated.

That Sir thing is just a joke. How does a leader of a "sovereign" country pride himself in being a knight (soldier) for the British monarch?
@mandandi
@mandandi 9 ай бұрын
@ZAR_72 It's an honor bestowed on them. The British monarch decides, usually based on the service performed by the recipient. So, one can be proud of receiving the honour.

The are other languages too: sekalaka, seherero, sekgalagadi, sesarwa(spoken by the khoisan people), sesobeya, sembukushu, the coloured community here also speaks afrikaans, there are also ndebele speaking people/tribes and maybe some I might have forgotten. But yeah the official languages are Setswana and English(which almost every Motswana speaks both). Also the Setswana spoken is different from area to area (but thats probably more of a tone or accent thing I guess).

I knew South Africa had more Tswana people than Botswana, but considering those other tribes then it means the actual tswana by Tribe/Clan are even fewer. Especially because the entire country's population is about 2 million
@maatlamogapi9758
@maatlamogapi9758 9 ай бұрын
@@ZAR_72 Actually most of those other clans are also recognized as Tswana clans here, even tho they speak another language other than Setswana. Same thing as you know that within the Tswana tribe in SA, there can be separated into distinct clans like Bakwena, Bangwato etc. Its just that the Tswana clans here in Bots speak multiple other languages not just Setswana like those in SA.
