I think the theory for Campanian Tyrannosaur niche partionating was actually that Daspletosaurus, with its robust and build, was going after the larger and less nimble Hadrosaurs, while Albertosaurines, being more lightler, tall and faster build, were going for the smaller and nimble ceratopsids.
@usmanya5110
@usmanya5110 Жыл бұрын
i thought it was the opposite with daspletosaurus going after the armored herbivores and of course the humungous hadrosaurs like Parasaurolophus and Lambeosaurus while gorgosaurus hunted the faster mid sized hadrosaurs like Corythosaurus and the Ornithomimids, and possibly younger ceratopsians.

If you pitched the idea of what a T Rex is to like a fiction writer competition, it would be labeled as a completely ridiculous OP Mary Sue monster, and you would be thrown out of the writer's room: Some of the best vision ever recorded, some of the best smell ever recorded, some of the best hearing ever recorded, able to communicate with others of its kind over miles-long distances like some kind of whale on land (using sound frequency that most other animals couldn't hear), can run quite fast for its size over long distances, grew to full size extremely quickly like a xenomorph, had one of the higher bite forces ever recorded, has twisted serrated teeth because apparently top bite force wasn't enough, has sub-sapient levels of intelligence, their head was covered in hard scutes in addition to their nigh unbreakable bone structure so they could headbut stuff with the force of 8 tons moving at 20mph, their legs were also extremely agile and it's implied that they could perform acrobatic maneuvers despite their size like sidestepping and extremely quick turning, and the list just keeps going, tell me if i missed anything because I'm sure I did. This animal was completely ridiculous. I'm sure all of its cousins were of a similar nonsensical overkill, considering they covered the planet.

Now this is just a crackpot theory but is it possible Gorgosaurus was a pack hunter? It would make sense given its smaller size and the fact that it seems to be more widespread than Daspletosaurus. Living in packs would certainly give it an advantage over its larger competitors and allow it to hunt larger prey.

While there’s not really any evidence of it, I would certainly like to believe that they may have hunted in groups. These probably weren’t sophisticated packs though, they were probably more like family groups or loose uncoordinated gangs/individuals brought together by a large food source, similar to crocodiles in Africa during a river crossing by a herbivore herd or vultures piling on top of a large animal corpse. Birds are the only living dinosaurs and crocodilians are their closest relatives, and neither of them pack hunt, so it’s probably safe to say that non avian dinosaurs weren’t pack hunters either. Still, the possibility may exist…

Hmmmm since both Gorgosaurus and Daspletosaurus live at the same place and at the same time, and since both are very close related to each other, do you think that they may crossbreed and create hybrids that share traits from both species? 👀

No. If they didn that, we would've already found some evidence of that
@noimsquidward7327
@noimsquidward7327 Жыл бұрын
@@NanuqEditzS I doubt that we would've already found evidence of such a crossbreed even if it did exist. While 2 separate but similar enough species can indeed make a viable offspring, like the pizzly, the liger, and a mule to name a few. It's still quite rare for these to happen naturally in the wild since that 2 different species would usually see each other as competition rather than seeing each other as being "doable", even if they shared a common ancestor. So it is possible that such a creature has existed but we just haven't found any evidence yet since that it's so rare. I mean we are discovering new fossils belonging to a newly discovered species more often than usual, and heck, we're also discovering new things about already discovered species so who's to say that we will never find a hybrid? But then again, it's possible that they would just classify it as another separate species, but what would I know?
@Apes_TogetherStrong
@Apes_TogetherStrong Жыл бұрын
@@noimsquidward7327 Crossbreeds are also rarer in Carnivores,because like you stated: "Carnivores see other species as competition instead of doable" In my opinion the most likely crossbreeds were between small Herbivores like Bagaceratops and Magnirostris

I always wondered how they knew what species of fossil they were really dealing with. What I mean is, imagine getting up to 30ft long at max, but we dig up your little brother who is only 11ft. Most bipedal dinos look pretty similar to me. So how do we know we've dug up little brother and not an adult version of a completely different species?
@TheDinoFax
@TheDinoFax Жыл бұрын
Actually, its surprisingly easy if we have enough material for the species. Adult animals have fused bones in several parts of the body, which don't start out fused as infants. As an animal grows, so too do their bones. Eventually, certain bones fuse together. If we have an adult specimen, then we know what bones are supposed to be fused, what bones aren't, etc. Sometimes, we don't have an adult or juvenile specimen, which is why many species are named prematurely (Like Nannotyrannus), as we don't have enough basis to go on. It's never 100% foolproof, and there are other ways they check as well, like ontogenetic analysis.
