I am new to this. I had a very positive experience with my mental status exam for SSDI this morning. I just wanted to share in case others were scared of the exam like me. I did not want to have to relive traumatic experiences from my military service. She did not make me do that, and was very encouraging and understanding. It was actually one of the better mental health visits I have had in my life. I don’t know the outcome of my claim yet however, I was just very relieved that the mental status exam in itself was not traumatic. My psychologist was out of Indianapolis. I am diagnosed with PTSD & Anxiety Disorder (service connected.) Blessings in this process to all! 🙏🏼🙏🏼

My brother is a disabled veterans who was overseas when 9-11 happened. He has PTSD, anxiety and depression. He masked for a long time. Until 2029 when there was a school shooter at his middle school. He blacked out and had a panic attack. Lost his teaching job after 13 years. He was never late. Never had a write up or anything. Part of his FMLA and long term disability through the school district was to apply for SSDI. He did, he has been denied twice. Since the school shooting, he dies not leave his home. He goes to counseling at the VA weekly. They have him on alot of drugs to try to get him to sleep. He is paranoid. I have seen his medical records and they are volumes. His mental health records are very detailed. Even his lawyers said they have never seen a disabled veteran get denied SSDI with problems that severe. Not to mention his injuries to his neck, back and nerve damage in his arms. If our veterans are pissed on by the SSA, what hope dies the average citizen have?

I'm truly sorry to hear about the immense challenges your brother is facing. It sounds incredibly frustrating and disheartening, especially after his years of service and dedication. It’s unjust that he's been denied the support he clearly needs. Please know that there are still avenues to appeal and organizations that specialize in supporting veterans in these situations. I hope your brother can receive the recognition and assistance he deserves soon.

Very good information here! For me, the pandemic has really impacted the process of being evaluated and seeking treatment. Because of my health issues that the long term Prednisone use has caused, I seem to be passed over or refused care. No PCP wants to take me on as a new client because of the naglagence of my PNP. When the psych evaluation was scheduled by SSA, it was a zoom meeting. The zoom app failed to keep the connection so the psych Dr. Said that SSA would need to reschedule. They did not and used it as part of the reason for denial. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Grrr. If I could return back to the university, I would pick up my political science major and fight this lack of proper P and P. It's uncomprehendable how the SSA has been allowed to continue to conduct it's "services" , or lack there of, for so long; without adaptive changes to address the lack of streamlining it's checks and balances process. Absolutely Unexceptionable ‼️

I would say apply cause it takes at lleast 3 yrs social security wants at least 2 yrs of medical records i have read all i can in regards to mental health for my daughter....she had many things happend to her in a very short time l...i got sick i was unable to homeschool her brother and her because of it...then she lost her only grandmother that she was very close to then she lost her dog that she had since she was little then her dad had to work 2 jobs in order to afford our house payments...we could not keep up with the house payments because of me being sick and not bringing in any money so we had to move out of the house she grew up in so we moved when she had just turned 14 while we were driving to our new state cause it was all we can afford...then once we moved out of state her only grandfather died so we had to go all the way back for the funeral and at the same time we had to sell her grandparents home that she would spend all holidays at once we took care of all that her father gets diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and was in the hosptial for a week.....mind u this was going on during her 15th bday dad is still getting treatment for cancer after this covid hit ...her older brother and sister caught covid and it was at the beginning when there was no vaccine she started this endness obsession of washing her hands all the time to the point of bleeding she wont go out in public has much now that covid is down a little she is the only teenager i know who does not talk on the phone r text anyone unless its me or her dad to ask for something to eat or buy. ..the only therapy they had at this time was video therapy which she would not do we finally found a therapist who would see her in person which put her on 5 different medications that did not work and had bad side effects like her sleeping pattern that with her major depression has taken over her life all of this we have documented with the doctors and therapist because social security needs to see this all written down and has to be going on for at least 2 yrs records....so my advice to u is to apply and expect to get denied the first and second phase we are going to a hearing with the judge in novermber so i may update after then just wanted to give a little of what we are dealing with.....with social sercurity for depression OCD PTSD and anxiety

My husband has received disability since 2005 and recently had to fight to get it back after it was taken away. However when it was pre-approved it was said that he no longer qualified for supplemental security income stating he was not disabled enough yet was deemed permanently disabled by a judge in 05'. Can you shed some light on this.

@melissaboswell516 I see you posted this message about a month ago, so not sure you will see this. I am not a part of the disability digest; however, they do represent me for my current disability case & I do a lot of reading. Brian would probably need a little bit more info. If your husband is at retirement age, it should automatically change over to SSI (I think) from ssdi at age 65. I know some benefits can be gotten at age 62 but not sure what they are. If he's close to either of those ages, then I would contact your local office and ask them to be sure. That's the only reason that I can think that they would say he was no longer eligible unless a doctor sent something into them stating you were no longer disabled. I do know that if while you are on disability and don't keep going to the doctor and keep up with treatment, they can take away your benefits when they review him after so many years. Has he filled out any forms recently? I joined a forum and I hear people talk about CDR's all the time (I think this stands for continued disability review). If he filled out forms and hasn't been to the doctor in the past few years, that could be why, but more info is needed. Contact Brian at www.thedisabilitydigest.com and he should be able to help. It's free to join and he has live videos with chat enabled every Wednesday and they have a Q & A after. I hope this helps. Good luck!

The consultative exam for my mental health resulted in a level 4 severe diagnosis and she plainly stated that I couldn`t be a normal reliable employee. But I`m also being treated for bad problems with my neck that can`t be fixed and chronic pain. So the judge leaned toward the grid rules....11th grade education, age 54 & 10 months, and no real work history, plus two 28 day inpatient mental health related hospital stays and suicide attempts. I`m being treated for schizoaffective disorder, depression, anxiety, and social isolation, plus chronic pain. But in 2023 Social Security, who denied me benefits until I went to a hearing, gets to decide if I keep my SSI. So my anxiety and mental health condition is amplified by constant worry about this, how I will get to dr visits each month, and what will happen to me. I have a camper, some solar power, and live on a very isolated rural family lot far from stores in an area with no cell phone signal. So my biggest fear is losing SSI and having no way to communicate or order food with a food card. I would have to survive off the land. So I`m trying to get the tools needed to have a fighting chance if that happens.

I included my Depression dx (along w my physical impairments) on my original application, and it is well documented in my medical records from my gp. And my lawyer has included it in her letters to them. But yet in the 2 yrs since I applied, they never sent me to thier mental health dr... unless the one they sent me to (twice now) for the physical issues is the same for mental... but I don't remember him qsating anything about my depression either time I saw him. I was always the one who had to bring up my depression to him.

Both times are always denied, thats normal, What she needs to do now its get a disability lawyer which would take her to the 3rd level infront of a Judge and most likely she would get it but is not a guarantee but she needs to be represented, A lawyer would not charge you anything but he would get 5% of her back pay which is worth it!!! Also if she has an extended medical record of bipolar that would be good.

Tomorrow i am going to his office with a list of questions i have no idea to answer. Even when i called to see if being on state food stamps would help or hurt me..lime what should i do. The paralegal said for me to do whatever i felt best. It was my decision..excuse me..can i fire my lawyer...they have done absolutely nothing. I had to gather all my medical records..the new ones for this hearing. I feel i would have been better researching and depwnding on myself..instead i felt that the professional knows best..if the judge asks me tuesday the 15th why i stopped foos stamps can i say because i didnt know what to do and my lawyers advice was to do what i felt right..wtf.,this is real..i am not kidding

I have applied for disability. I have lots of issues from COPD, CHF but mainly its my mental illnesses that is keeping me from work Major Depression, PTSD along with others. Well I'm done with all their exams and about A month ago I spoke with the lady that is working on my case. I went to tell her about my therapy and she stopped me and said. They don't need no more information because they have made a decision however they can't tell me yet because they didn't like the way the doctor worded a couple things and sent the doctor a letter asking him to change his wording and once he get the report back to them they will get ahold of me and let me know what they decided. So hoping that's a good sign because legally I don't they shouldn't be able and have reports changed but then again who knows? Has anyone had this experience with them and what was the outcome. I'm thinking o may call them again today and see if they can give me an update. It's almost a year and half from when I applied. October of 2021 was when they started the review process.

@@TheDisabilityDigest When I had a global mental health assessment done six months ago, the Dr said I had the worst score he had ever seen in one of the areas. I believe it was cognitive/memory related. He said it fit the criteria to be “severe” rating but that he was going to put it as the one that was a little “better” instead. (Aka not showing it’s as severe of an impairment) What would you suggest I do regarding that situation when it comes to applying and medical docs etc. Should I request Dr rate it appropriately with the “severe” and if so, how the heck would I word that request? 😮

I don’t care if anyone sees all the issues that I have, but I have bipolar disorder one, six herniated disc three that are located in my neck and it causes a lot of pain and three and in my lower lumbar spine and because of the neck issue I was diagnosed also With spinal stenosis, I also have severe acid reflux disease, stomach ulcers to be specific They are peptic ulcers, and there are two of them, I suffer from endometriosis stage four, I’ve had a full hysterectomy, but ever since that happened for some reason when I need to use the bathroom for number two and I’m not trying to be gross in any sort of way I get severely impacted And I have two choices emergency room which the pain was so bad from what they did that I can’t handle going there, so I always have to have gloves so I can evacuate that area and it’s so bad. It causes a lot of bleeding which gives me chronic anemia, I also have chronic vitamin D deficiency, tachycardia which is the irregular heartbeat, and I’ve had these issues for the past 10 + years and I’ve been getting worse over the years. I don’t take painkillers except for over-the-counter stuff, tiger balm, and one medication my doctor/psychiatrist but he’s a neuro- psychiatrist he gave me Suboxone. He said I would never survive just on over-the-counter medication’s. You’ll go right back to using opiate medication to maintain your pain so It’s best if you’re on something not so strong where you’re not getting stoned basically which is, I have anxiety, very high cholesterol, I do have some issues on PTSD due to something that happened when I was much younger, chronic sinusitis, so basically, I’m in pain a lot of the time and I just try to suck it up and deal with it but it’s very difficult And I used to have a great job and I used to be someone but now I’m not I work Uber only when I can because the stenosis has caused my left arm to get Kinda numb in certain areas and my fingertips so driving is dangerous if I’m in extra pain or numbness that day due to the stenosis And it’s probably a pinched nerve and I’ve had over a dozen medical surgeries. I have no uterus no ovaries no part of my reproductive system due to the endometriosis it almost destroyed my colon. I have no gallbladder and no appendix due to the endometriosis as well. I’ve already had shingles when I was only 28 years old, and now I’m 41 years old and people are telling me that I’m gonna be denied if I try to get disability and I get younger to go to work but I don’t think people get painful. my existence is so I thought I would say what I would say about my health to find out if there is a shot at all that I could possibly get disability and I’m educated, I went to college. I have a bachelors and a masters degree and I was once a special education teacher, but I endured a lot of injuries at that job breaking up fights because I worked in terrible dangerous neighborhoods in the projects of New York City. I don’t regret what I did because I loved the kids and the parents, but I regret not reporting staff for not helping me when things would happen and I regret not reporting principals that used me, and in the end didn’t give a damn about me and I was a loyal teacher. I was a good teacher and I actually gave a shit about everything I did but I just couldn’t do it anymore so I think the last time officially that I worked was January maybe early February 2017. do you think if I apply that I’ll need a lawyer or that I stand a chance at any help from the government for Disability or even welfare of some sort? I’m currently on Medicaid and United healthcare. Thank you and I hope you’re able to read this and let me know…… Tysm 😔💜 Baby

I'm truly sorry to hear about the numerous health challenges you're facing. It sounds like you've been through a lot, and I can understand how overwhelming it must be. Based on the extensive list of medical conditions you've shared, it seems like you could potentially qualify for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI). The Social Security Administration (SSA) evaluates disability claims based on the severity of the condition and its impact on your ability to perform substantial gainful activity. Given the complexity of your case, it might be beneficial to consider getting a representative or an attorney to help you with your application. They can guide you through the process, help gather the necessary medical evidence, and represent you in case of an appeal. Our Disability Digest membership can provide you with a step-by-step approval course and live support, potentially saving you up to $7,200 in legal fees. You can also discuss representative assistance with our Advocates to increase your chances of approval. Start your journey here: bit.ly/34wviJY Remember, our goal at the Disability Digest is to help you navigate these complex decisions and find the best solution for your individual needs. Hi, I have a *QUESTION* I hope you get to see it. I’ve been on disability for more than 10 years, I’m 59 years old. I have anxiety, panic attacks, depression, went through a period of agoraphobia, PTSD. I was awarded disability in NY. I’ve been in treatment since before I was awarded. I’ve been in Florida, for 4 years, and my agoraphobia has started again. I got a call from SSDI for a review, which I did. I’m curious as to why I’d be reviewed after 11-12 years, and will be 60 next month ?

I have a son who is 25 and is autistic and has been diagnosed as bipolar and schizophrenic with dillusional and hallucinating thought patterns we have been going thru the social security disability process for over a year and he has been admitted to a psychiatric hospital 7 times in last 2 years and every time social security process starts over he doesnt know he is crazy and believes he is god he is also paralyzed in his midsection internally he can walk but he has to straight cath and manually evacuate his bowels and walks around 24 hours a day talking to his voices in his head but how do you get someone who thinks they are fine to actually tell a social security physiatrist what his problems really are he takes vraylar and has a appointment August 5 for a psych evaluation with social security.
@TheDisabilityDigest
@TheDisabilityDigest 28 күн бұрын
I'm truly sorry to hear about the challenges your son is facing. It sounds like you're dealing with a lot right now. When it comes to the Social Security Disability evaluation process, it's crucial to provide comprehensive medical evidence that clearly demonstrates how his conditions limit his ability to work. This includes medical records, doctors' notes, and possibly statements from people who know him and can attest to his struggles. In your son's case, it might be helpful to accompany him to his appointments and provide additional information about his condition and daily struggles. You could also consider seeking the help of a disability advocate or representative who can guide you through the process and ensure that all necessary information is presented effectively. For more information on how to prepare for a disability exam, you can watch this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ebp3d7Kg2LvecZs.html. Hope this helps!
