You impressed me with this one. Wanna know why? Because I could see you weren't feeling it at first. After some time, it kind of sank in, and you started enjoying it. What impressed me was that you didn't fake any shit. You were genuine and that's what matters. Let's face it - you aren't going to like every song. That's a fact. And some songs you might not like on the first listen. But if you keep an open mind, and remain honest and real, you will be amazed at what Life will offer you.

I was a child in the 1970s. In those days, you didn't usually hear this song during the daytime (at least, not where I lived). At night when I was put to bed, I would turn my transistor radio to its lowest setting and keep turning the dial until I heard this song at least once. It was incredible. At the time, I didn't really know the band. In the darkness it sounded amazing. It excited me and opened my imagination. I would fall asleep and have the most amazing dreams. To this day, it remains one of my favorite songs. Light a candle, turn out the lights, swallow your fear...listen.

Normally true but not on this album. On this album, credited, is bass guitar by Jerry Scheff, who was Elvis Presley’s touring bass player from 1969 until the end in 1977. The Doors hired Jerry Scheff and guitarist Marc Benno for the LA Woman album to get a fuller live sound. In biographies it’s said that Jim Morrison was particularly excited about working with Elvis’s bass player.
@hardtohandleweddingbandent8653

Nope. This is an actual bass player. (Jerry Scheff, as mentioned by Eric Oberlies below). There's a story that when Manzarek first played the line to Scheff, the bass player remarked on how unconventional a pattern it was for a bass player to have to play. On keyboard the pattern you make to play this motif is easy; on bass guitar it's kind of counterintuitive; and possibly what makes it stand out.

This was the Last song Morrison did..before leaving for France..where he died soon after..if you listen Very Closely...you hear a "Ghost echo"..Jim was in the Studio listening to the playback and was Whispering the words along with his singing..Not knowing the recording mic was left on accidentally .."Greastest mistake in music history i feel" i think it really adds to this song and really Makes it Great.!!.

Thank you for reacting to this one. It is considered a masterpiece by the Doors. The rain and thunder was added for mood effect to set the tone for the lyrics. One of the best stereo mixes ever. Still played today on oldies album stations. Their best epic piece. There is also an extended version of this song on KZfaq. More of their hits are Love Me Two Times, Love Her Madly, People Are Strange and more! The Doors were a very important group in the 60's until the lead singer, Jim Morrison died at the age of only 27. A great loss to be sure.

Yo Twins. Here is some hopefully helpful info. Ray manzarek the keyboardist is playing that bassline as well as the lead keyboard. Robby Krieger is giving you that old school feel with all of the reverb running through his guitar amp. Combine Jim's lyrics, and this band was way ahead of its time. Nice to see a young man appreciating this genius. ✌

Short story: In '93 I was looking for a job for after school hours, and I ended up working at a coffeeshop (not the kind where they sell coffee wink wink) called 'the Doors' here in Amsterdam. As the name may suggest it was a Doors themed coffeeshop so a lot of Doors music was played, as well as a lot of other rock/alternative music (Grunge was big at the time). As a person that almost only listened to HipHop I hated it. The first few weeks I worked there I often wondered what I was doing there and thought I should be looking for some place else, because I just couldn't handle the music. However, as time went by I slowly started to enjoy the music. And after some more time I really got into it, even to the point I was hardly listening any HipHop at all. Who would have thought. Moral of the story: be open to everything. You might be surprised about the things you can learn and can come to enjoy. Looking at your videos it brings back many great memories and I wish I could relive that time of getting into completely new music all over again. Keep it up guys! PS: I was lucky enough to also witness a completely new genre evolve, and that was electronic music. For me specifically that's Jungle/Drum and Bass. If you're interested, check out names as LTJ Bukem, PFM, Photek, Source Direct, Breakage, The Prodigy, Burial, Bonobo and Commodo, just to name a few ;-)

Morrison takes a while to feel out. He was a complicated person and sometimes didn't make a lot of sense to anyone but himself but the man was truly a genius in his own right. I was raised in the 60s and 70s on the Doors as they happened and I love them. Morrison was dead by the 80s - he died in 71. This is my all-time favorite Doors song. I use to ride my bike down the hill behind my house during thunder storms singing Riders On The Storm when I was in 2nd grade. It made an impression. The best gift my mom ever gave me was having amazing taste in music and not being afraid to play it with and for me, as well as take me to music festivals in the 70s. Look into "The Ballad of Dwight Frye" by Alice Cooper. I fell asleep on a blanket at a music festival and woke up to Alice in a straight jacket being chased around the stage by a nurse with a giant hypodermic needle when I was 7. Great times!!!

Not to Touch the Earth by The Doors will blow your mind. Especially when the organ & guitar go back and forth on the solo complementing/battling each other until the climax... epic song by and epic band!

I am loving how you are willing to listen to these older rock and roll groups. The memories coming back to me while listening. I am learning myself from other comments, things I didn't know. There is so much out there to listen to and appreciate. I am happy with all suggestions and reactions. Life is good right now...right here. I am happy. Thank you.

This is psychedelic rock. It came out in the 60s with Jim Morrison singing lead. He died young at only 27. Check out The End by the Doors. It's a great song.

I grew up listening to The Doors, Tower of Power, Santana, Earth Wind & FIre and just so many amazing artists. My Dad & Unlces listened to them and it was surely always playing at family BBQ's. Back then it was just background music as I was playing with my cousins. I haven't heard some of these songs you're reacting to since way back. Now.... I'm tearing up thinking about my family and JUST NOW experiencing what they felt for this music. Just until this video, I realized they included so many elements like rain and storms. I'm in shock and know I'm about to have a heck of a weekend catching up and rediscovering so many of these songs. Getting the tissues ready.... woop

I've lived in Tallahassee since I came here in 1970 to attend FSU (which Jim Morrison, the lead singer of The Doors also attended a few years prior). It rains every single afternoon and evening here in the summer. As soon as the rain started every day, the radio DJs would start playing Riders on the Storm and would keep it in heavy rotation until the rain stopped for the night. If you were high enough, it seemed like some sort of supernatural miracle or something, lol.

I haven't even watched this yet but I really appreciated your reaction to Free Bird and I know you'll get this one too! I'm about your age but my parents absolutely saturated my childhood in classic rock and I love reaction videos because I can relive that first time hearing these classics again. Subscribed! This has been my favorite bands for over 13 years and I'm only 26. The Doors would be considered psychedelic/blues rock btw.

In 1971 I was 10years old, I was listening to my old valve radio in bed one night, when I heard the sounds of waves crashing, thunder rolling, the tinkling of a Piano, when a Man's voice said "Riders on the Storm". The 10-year-old me thought OMG!!! WTF is that?? It turned out to be a song that remains in my Top 5 or 10 to this day, depends on my mood.
