I haven’t dated in about 4 years, and I just learned that it’s from a Trauma response called Hyper-Independence. This is a survival mechanism to maintain strict control over your feelings and actions. It’s a way to feel safe. Because you’re still hurting from past experiences.

I found this conversation so refreshing. After removing myself and my kids from an abusive marriage, I find my self struggling to trust anyone romantically and worry about making a similar bad choice. That being said, this raw conversation struck a cord with me. I don’t want to be alone forever and there is someone good out there. So thank you Shania for your wisdom and thank you Drew for being so open. I too don’t view myself as very sexually driven, of which has been a source of contention in my relationship history and a sensitive topic. It’s comforting to know I’m not alone. PS for what it’s worth, Drew, you pull off sexy well in your films. I appreciate your relatability in your roles you’ve taken. Thanks. Love the talk show.

We lost my brother to cancer in 2018. My SIL only just began seeing someone. And he’s someone she already knows from work, someone she has talked to daily, sharing parts of their personal lives. I’m not saying this guy is someone she’ll end up with (it sounds like he has much more personal baggage than she does), but it’s a good way of dipping your toe into the world of dating. Someone you already trust and feel comfortable with. I know not everyone has a man like that in their lives, but you might. Good luck overcoming your relationship hurdles. ❤

This is so empowering! Shania is right, speaking our needs in any relationship from the get-go avoids a lot of problems. It's so smart to level set before things get serious. It's an ongoing conversation. Drew might change her mind at some point and have new wants a few months into a relationship and that's ok, as long as she's upfront. Man, communication is really everything, ya'll.

I feel you. But at least you can find someone. I am homeless in limbo with someone who has hit me, cheated on me. And lied so much. All I have done is supported her through college to make the really good money she takes for granted. All while running a handyman business and being a stay-at-home father. I had coached baseball, soccer, ran a Bear Den and was a leader at girl Scout camp for 3 years. For my daughter and son. I hope you can get through this; it will be ok.

Drew, I am in the same boat being an older gal. I am not lonely either, but I think the appropriate word would be connection. Feeling a connection with someone and spending time with one another while pursuing your own interests. Also, if you can keep healthy boundaries then you may find a nice romantic partner. Don't give too much of yourself too soon and know the red flag signs. Let it come organically.

100%!! WHY do people view single status as an “incomplete” or “ temporary” status. Of course we all need love…but doesn’t have to be romantic love. Friends and family give love. And best of all is “self love”. Living a solo independent life is great.

i guess this would be constructive criticism and i could see where you’re coming from. but to me, this whole clip seemed to be all about her giving Drew advice, so it was about Drew’s life. but if you think she interjects people in general, sometimes people do it because it’s the only way they know how to say “i understand you and i can relate to you.” i do notice she relates stuff back to her often, but personally i like it because it shows that everyone goes through very hard or unusual things. im not trying to change your mind i just want you to try to see it in another way.
