Here's my take...if something that has existed virtually forever hasn't gotten to be a popular food by now, chances are it's really not that good to eat. Not that you shouldn't try it, mind you, if you're "adventurous," ;-), but likely it's not going to be a delicacy... just my 2 cents... Safe travels, Adventurers!!

Yup. Can't disagree. I am just saying that it is perhaps a very acquired taste and not likely going to be considered a "delicacy" by many people (even "escargot" - snails, aren't embraced by a lot of folks). By "good" I meant "really considered yummy by most people," not necessarily life-sustaining (which it likely is). Someday, I'll be trying them just to see what I'm missing. :-) Good comment, Roy-thanks.

I'm sad you guys didn't get to the Kennedy School (the old elementary school turned brewpub/movie theater/hotel with multiple bars). It's awesome, you would have LOVED it. Maybe next time! Also, you should totally consider a road trip around Oregon, up the coast if nothing else.

Aah, 'The Alchemist', a great book. I also enjoyed it. It's more than a travel book, but it inspires you to breakout of your comfort zone, and embrace the unknown through following your heart, and opening up to serendipity. A fun book is 'A Year in the Merde', about a British guy who moves to live and work in Paris, France. It's his comparison of the differences between British and French attitude to work, and how he has to adjust to French ways.

I used to live a few blocks from the Cinemagic. Good theater. The Bagdad, about 15 blocks eat, is run by the same people as the Kennedy School and is also worth checking out. Division Street has developed a significant restaurant scene in the past 10 years or so. You landed in a good part of town.

Ken Follets “Pillars of the Earth” and “Winter of the World” trilogy’s, both display incredible insight in to European medieval and world wide 20th century history as relates to an interconnected bunch of families, both very long, 45hr, but amazing:) Could not eat that locust!

I've started 'prepping' for a time where I envisage insects being the only viable source of protein. Having to take baby steps, but I know that I'll at least have a few years to work my way up to the real thing. Currently, I'll put some dried ramen into my mouth and crunch really quickly (while pretending to gag for added authenticity). The next stage is to eat gummy worms, and then I'll be ready.

Try to find "infinity welcomes careful drivers", then "better than life". Both scifi, both extremely funny. Author is Grant Naylor btw. Another book worth getting, if you can find it is "the lunar men", that's historical fact telling the story about a group of pre Victorian engineers, scientists and industrialists. That book tells the story of how the industrial revolution was started, and is actually alot more interesting than it sounds. The men it tells about were all genius in their field, and you should of heard of several already btw.

Guys I'd like to add to Michael's comment about the England trip. The editing and content were spot on, and made me want to watch loads more of your vlogs. Both my wife and I are from the U.K. and I was just telling her the other day, that before we do our (mid life) 'gap' year, when the kids are at Uni, I want to make sure we visit almost the whole of the U.K. before we do The rest of Europe and the other continents. It's a sad fact that most people who live in the U.K. have only been to a few places in their own country, but tend to visit 10 x as many places abroad. I'd kind of like to exhaust my local options before I venture further. I have this strange conviction, that there is this one perfect meadow in England, which will satisfy me completely. I just have to find out where it is, and with the love of my life - I'm sure we'll find out where it is! Enjoy the adventures together. Daniel.

Eating that grasshopper doesn't look enjoyable AT ALL!!! Why bother??? I get the novelty of trying them in places where they are actually eaten like Mexico or parts of Asia, but spending money on them in the US, when you don't even enjoy them, is just wasteful to me. I agree that RunPee.com is an awesome resource! I NEVER go to a movie without checking it out on RunPee.com FIRST. It's a relief knowing I won't have to wait two or three hours with a "Thirsty-Two Ounce-r" looking for an exit!
