Just came out of a prescreening and IT WAS AMAZING. This isn't a modern masterpiece, it is literally a CINEMATIC LANDMARK. I hope A24 works their asses off to campaign and promote this for more people to see, and for award bodies to recognize. Through the entire movie, me and everyone in the theater was laughing their asses off in one scene, and then they hit you with a deeply touching scene that could make you cry. The absolute craftsmanship of this movie is nuts, it might be a little weird but i assure you, if you just let yourself into it, you will be absolutely love this movie

Unfortunately, I don't think the Academy will give this the love it deserves, not only because A24 is ass at campaigning, but because its filmmakers who choose the nominations and a bunch of old heads will probably dislike it and call it crass or something dumb like that. Plus unless its Tarantino, they forget about any movie that comes out at or around summertime

I agree A24 is bad at campaigning. But look at last year. Drive My Car is a great example that a film doesn’t need a crazy campaign if it has lots of passion. If everything everywhere all at once is pushed by critics, it can get in. I’m still scared of it’s chances due to what you said (academy voters hating movies that take risks) but I’m hoping for the best!

The Academy voting block have gotten more diverse and younger in recent years. It’s now around 33% women, 19% non white, and about 28% are under 50. It could be better yes, but it’s way better now than it was in 2012 where it was only 23% women, 6% non white and 14% under 50. I wouldn’t count Everything Everywhere just yet, especially after the recognition for both Parasite and Minari in recent years.

@ The Film Drunk For me EEAAO is not only a love letter to Michelle, but it is also a homage to Hong Kong Cinema. The Gung Fu; wacky comedies, many predating Stephen Chow; hot dog fingers (from HK's 1991 "Dances w Dragon") + WKW reference, all arose from that prolific + glorious city. I would also describe EEAAO as a visual psychedelic trip, without taking any drugs; this definition is reflected in your your poster of the movie..

Powerful Movie. I have so much to say but I will try to summarize my thoughts in a few sentences. The movie was amazing just looking at the surface. Amazing Visually, Great Acting, and had so many surprises you weren't expecting. However, the best part of the movie was how they were able to capture the emotions and struggles that many 1st generation mothers and 2nd generation daughters/sons feel but cannot express. Many asians know that 1st and 2nd generation asians struggle to express their feelings to each other. But the movie is able to help put into words the things that need/want to be said to each party. I could write SO MUCH more about this movie but this is a MUCH watch for all asian americans! So relatable! 11/10 movie. A+++++.
