MY SLOW JIGGING RODS AND REELS EXPLAINED
In this video, I go through most of the slow jigging rod and reel combinations I use.
This video aims to show you what possible outfits you can use for a given situation. The range I cover with the gear I show is from max 100g all the way to 900g, with the different reel options I could use for different depths and jig weights as well as the situations where I use reels of different speeds. This video will hopefully give you an insight on what to use or to help you with your buying decisions in putting together your own system.

Another awesome video! It was really good to see how you strategized your equipment according to what fish you were targeting at what depth, conditions and how frisky the fish are. The overlap definitely helps if one is limited on equipment. But of course don't compromise on quality line.

Hey mate. Loving the videos! The adajo, you seemed to rate it. They seem good for yhe price and s true slow pitch rod. If im fishing say 60-80 metres with fairly high current, would you siggest this for a good startjng point? I currently have two other rods and looking at a third to work in a heavier current situation

Love your content as usual. Looking to buy some spare SOM spools, what are your thoughts on carbon vs cork drags in them?
@TheFishingKit
@TheFishingKit 3 ай бұрын
Cork drags ensure that your leaders (or any other mistakes you have) won't pop when the pressure increases...it eases into the drag pressure you set the reel in, carbon drags are great if you are confident that your knots and terminals are spot on. Both are good, just that I believe cork drags give you a bit more when it comes to fighting fish with lighter line and leader.

Great vid as always! For pe line. isnt it the deeper you go the thinner the line to prevent scoping? When wud you use an x4 vs x8 lines? How much drag do you use? Thanks
@TheFishingKit
@TheFishingKit 4 ай бұрын
4x has less stretch than 8x, 8 is stronger. So it depends on what you prioritize. For me, it would be a waste to not use 4x on a system that's very sensitive. The deeper you go the more apparent the need or the usefulness of the correct combo, not just the line. Drag - would rather not touch this topic as people have their own thoughts about this and are quite stubborn in their ways...so I will just say my drags are set right.

I have some fairly large spools of tan colored Kevlar line from 100 lb to 500 lb test. Would this line be suitable for assist cord material?
@TheFishingKit
@TheFishingKit 3 ай бұрын
Yes you can, but it depends on how they are braided - this dictates how they will last, loosely braided cord will not last as long.

If im fishing say 60-80 metres with fairly high current, would you siggest this for a good startjng point? I currently have two other rods and looking at a third to work in a heavier current situation. I currently have a pro hunter slow rider pe2.5 and a oceans legacy elementus slow in pe2. Typically I use about 130-180gram jigs but at times a vertical jig is difficult with the current we get here. Watcing your videos I'll need to get some smaller profile jigs and possibly a stronger rod. I currently run saltiga 12 in pe2.
@TheFishingKit

It's a good budget option, it's not a true slow jigging rod - It's an Asian Style rod. I believe the adajo goes up to 500g I might be mistaken, but this was my work rod back in the day, so yes, it does the job.

As always great information and knowledge. Two questions. I am a freshwater fisherman and was thinking about trying slow pitch jigging for lake trout in 40-250 foot of water. Have you heard of people using this technique in fresh water? Second I picked up a goofish PE 1-2 pink rod. Is that a decent rod for the job?
@TheFishingKit
@TheFishingKit 4 ай бұрын
Goofish is not good. Its the rod version of a "get rich fast" scam. I often ask people why they dont subscribe to get rich fast scams but subscribe to unbreakable rods. I have a friend actively jigging for trout for a long time now, It is nothing new. 12-76m - nothing strange about this , you ise 12-80g jigs. With the right line, the right rod and reel, should be ok - get a proper rod, reel and make sure your line is japanese braid (amazon japan) makes a whole difference.

Thanks for replying. I haven’t been able to find much info on slow pitch jigging in freshwater or for trout. I currently have a seigler sgn with daiwa j braid 30 pound. Looks like I’ll be looking for a new rod.
@TheFishingKit
@TheFishingKit 3 ай бұрын
Reels - Daiwa Saltiga and Ocea Jigger are standards, Seigler are very heavy. J braid is american spec, meaning, it is thick if you compare it with PE 1.5 (which breaks at 30lbs) You are looking at the 1000 size for OJ or 10H for Saltiga, you can also use the Ocea Conquest 200 for this purpose if you want a reel with a level wind. These are all jigging reels. Go on youtube and search in Kozo Okubo's channel. He's the friend I mentioned. He isn't the only one doing it, they also jig for Salmon in Japan, even having special edition jigs for the salmon. @@jessertyndall2403
