Why on Earth did you leave all that soil under the new stairs ? ?, dreadful dirty thing to do ! The soil will begin to leave a “ fusty, Musty “ smell after a while ? It will encourage damp and mould like the old ones had ? Sorry Mr Fixer, but that’s a huge big NO NO in my books ! It may be only your basement, but all that lovely timber and all your careful work, spoiled by your laziness in leaving what appears to be an apparent “ spoil heap “ hidden underneath ? , shoddy workmanship that certainly wouldn’t be allowed here in England !

The drill jump bloopers are my favorite. Thanks for explaining rise and run. Another important reason why the rise and run have to be the same is that it's a trip hazard since the human brain assumes stair-steps are all equal.

They make a stain-type product for cut ends of pressure treated that adds back some of the protective chemicals. I would be tempted to use that at least on the stringer bottoms that contact the concrete. But it should be a much drier anvironment now that you fixed up the doors. And I can feel your satisfaction as you finally walk down a solid flight of stairs! Nice.

I had so much trouble getting my late EX- to do these things. We had a toddler and our one and a half story balcony had sides with huge open spaces. PLUS our toddler had a very large head, very top heavy and tippy when he leaned over. So one day I went to the store and the only thing I could manage at the time was to nail up heavy duty construction fencing, bright orange. That did the trick, one look at that and he got to work. He installed trellis.

Thats a good build, well done. I agree with one of your viewers and close off the bottom runner. I've built a lot of stairs and a quick way to figure out the rise and runs etc is with CAD if you have access to it, you can even draw out a template for your stringers with whatever tread material you use, works great and very accurate.

Great job! Thats a very solid set of stairs, better than most stuff I seen built over past few years. If you want them to last, you should lift the stairs a bit gently with a pry bar and add some 6 mil poly strips or sill gasket under the feet between the concrete and anywhere the stringers touch earth. Pressure treated lumber or not, moisture from below is the enemy.

Awesome video, your stair needed an air gap on each side for expansion and contraction.

Omg...the last board at the end. Frigging thing was stuck. 😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️❤️. Matt, you truly are really good at building and thinking the measurements out. You're silly. Thanks for all the content you're pushing out. 😂😂

That squeak should become a sound effect for you lol!! Great repair!!! And thank you for so much info. I mentioned your channel to XO, MaCenna as she is restoring/building her first home, and the moulding gave her issues. She got it, but it took her a minute because of the different measurements in the house . Shr has an architectural degree, so she is versed in that. It's just her first time. She looks up things on YT and you should see how beautiful it has turned out so far!! Both of your channels are awesome!
