This is excellent! Had a factory installed hydraulic filter that I fought with for over 30 minutes. Took a break before putting a screwdriver through it and saw your video… worked perfect. Got it started and the wrench did the rest. Thank you!!

I gave a thumbs up ,even though he allowed the oil to get to the rope, which is unforgivable.

I had to stop back in and give credit where it is do this is the only thing that got an oil filter off of 06 Lexus RX 330 with the manifold right in the way I couldn’t get any tool in there to loosen it up but this worked because I could slip the rope through the manifold, space and pull up on it. It workers!! Thank you 🙏

So, first oil change on my wife's new Toyota Venza hybrid. The boys at the engine assembly plant really got me. Apparently they installed the oil filter without lubing the oil filter gasket and torqued it on with aid of a team of oxen. The confines are too tight to get both hands on the filter, and in fact too tight to get a good grip with one hand. As it turned out, it wouldn't have mattered if I could get both hands on it. It's a really small filter, so the only filter wrench I have that would work is a strap wrench - which did nothing but bend the filter. So I drove into town in the middle of a snowstorm to buy one of those cap-type wrenches with the facets that engage the facets on the filter. No go. The filter was on so tight that the facet engagement wasn't sufficient. The wrench turned on the filter rather than turning the filter. Soooo, KZfaq. This little video saved my bacon. I had to roughen the filter with sandpaper, wrap the free end of the rope around a big end wrench so I could pull with both hands, put on a pair of leather gloves, and jack up the car so I could brace one foot against the front suspension, and the other knee against the front tire, but it worked. Thank you, sir!

great trick i will try it,i have a 95 z71 that i put a chevy crate engine in back in 2006 and this engine has so much oil pressure i guess that might be why its getting stuck, when you crank it up at idle it shoots to 60 psi but who knows right.i know it sucks changing the earl lol thanks bro,the old rope trick haha

slip of rubber wrapped around the filter or inside a strap wrench gets it every time for me.

I tried that - a length of bicycle innertube rubber. It didn't work, but this rope trip did!

Having problems getting the old one off my '94 XJS. Thing I can't figure out is that Jaguar very clearly emphasizes that a new one should only be put on by HAND tightening (about 1/2 turn after contact made). So, why is it so damn hard to get them OFF by hand (assuming the PO followed directions)?

Exactly, I'm wondering the same thing for my 3.8L v6 mustang

I have changed the oil/filter on my Honda for years, hand torque, only to tighten. First time I let the 'shop' do it, very hard to remove! I am convinced they use a wrench to install and to remove!

That is funny. Are you sure it wasn't your basic normal filter that you could have taken it out with a filter wrench? :-)

@@sirloin11b72 How to remove oil filter that seems to have been welded? May I? Principle of operation: Have some sort of tool that grabs the entire filter housing, not a small round section of it. This principle will keep the filter from collapsing and busting. Solution: Strap, just a simple strap, wrap it few times all around the filter. Take a good look at this video. You will not find the like of this creative move anywhere or on KZfaq. If you have some sort of room which most often there is, room just for a handle/extension of some sort. This is the ticket solution. It is the only thing I had to come up when all the videos just not doing it. They all were full of some sort of struggle. This one is the bull's eye. No oil filter wrench is needed. You are welcome. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z8x_jKVq3rS2XaM.html

Audio is too quiet. Try normalizing the sound channel it in your video editor before uploading or turn up the volume on the mic until it starts crackling then dial it back a bit.
