The first episode of Seinfeld aired in 1989. Thirty-five years later, the show remains at the apex of American culture. People speak in Seinfeld-isms, they flirt on dating apps over Seinfeld, they rewatch old episodes of Seinfeld when they’re feeling down. And, in the case of the Weiss family, Lou still watches it every night from 11 pm to 12 am on the local Pittsburgh station before he goes to sleep. People around the world even learn English watching Seinfeld!
But now, during a time that is supposed to be the most inclusive, the most sensitive, the most accepting, and the most tolerant time in human history, Jerry Seinfeld is targeted for being a Jew.
You’ve probably heard or seen Jerry somewhere recently-from The New Yorker to GQ to… every podcast in the world. That’s because he has a new movie out called Unfrosted, which you should definitely go watch on Netflix. It’s hilarious, heartwarming, and you will love it.
But today’s conversation with Jerry is unlike the ones you’ve heard. He’s unfiltered. He’s emotional. And he’s speaking his mind.

I ended the episode with tears in my eyes and it was a total surprise. I’m still not sure what it means, but I think it has to do with what Jerry said about comedians seeing through the veneer and how politics is all bullshit. It seems like everything is political these days and by extension, that means everything is bullshit then and it’s so depressing and demoralizing to exist in that.
@DABA2024
@DABA2024 29 күн бұрын
Except he is railing on about wokeness like every other male comedian over 40, while simultaneously creating literally the worst comedy movie of the past 30 years. The guy who is mad that politics is everything these days is going around giving completely unfunny interviews about wokeness and masculinity and other clearly political bullshit, because his comedy isn’t hitting like it did in the 90s. A Pop Tarts movie is like doing a movie about airline peanuts in 2024. Wildly out of touch. This guy brought you to tears? 😂

He’s bang on about New Yorkers being funny…..certainly different. On one trip years ago I saw Mr. Spoons on Park Avenue; a guy in a rabbit suit playing the spoons. Ok, then at a crosswalk, I watched an old man with a cane slowly shuffling across when the light changed. He was mid way across and cars/drivers just laid on the horn at him. He stopped in front of a Yellow Cab who was honking; whacked the hood of the car with his cane and continued his shuffle across the street. And entering the underground parking at old Yankee Stadium; the attendant dancing to rap his music on the largest boom box I have ever seen. I turned to my friend and said “Welcome to New York”. It was fabulous……and memorable! I just gotta go back one day.

@@Steve-tk6xv Hey dude, I agree with you. I’m a huge Jerry fan and a huge enemy of the Israeli govt. I’m an anarcho-capitalist so I don’t go with the dummy wokester progressive left, or the dipshit neo-Connery. “Having said that” there are tears to be shed for the victims on both sides. I don’t really care what comedians, celebrities or musicians think about politics or foreign affairs. Deniro is maybe the greatest actor to ever live and yet he holds dogshit opinions. Neil Young made a great record about the Bush Wars but was naively silent during the Obama admin. Then he became a raving covidiot. He’s still a great musician and song-writer. Jerry is one of the funniest humans to walk the planet; He’s wrong on Israel. Go attack somebody who’s truly complicit in the crimes against the Palestinians. I’ll give you a hint - it’s the same people who’ve made trump public enemy #1 since Nov 2016.

@@jknowstheway1462 I’m critiquing Bari. Sure people interrupted him. But for her to claim this is mob mentality is her, in my opinion, refusing to have an honest discussion of the topic of Israel and Palestine and the genocide in Gaza. Easy just to claim your detractors as a violent mob rather than actually address their argument. For Jerry to say he is a comedian and not complicit or a bad target, is perhaps a cop out. His wife donated to violent counter protesters at UCLA. He has seemingly equated being Jewish with being a Zionist in his support for Israel. The two are not the same. My point is, the discussion in this regard is sorely lacking. But what would I expect from Bari Weiss who claims to be free speech but has a long history of actively seeking to have anti-Zionist voices canceled, fired. Hardly a defender of civil liberties. Hardly principled.

Do you know the history of Zionism? Do you know anything about Christian Zionism? Zionism is a political movement. Judaism is a religion. Ever heard of Jewish Voices for Peace? The audience never lies. True. Interesting to consider the difference between an engaged audience and a mob. How that happens - Imo, an engaged audience is just that, engaged. They are thinking with you. Mobs often don't think at all. They get swept up in their own energy (believing their own crap). It can snowball, no matter how toxic. Agree, it's all BS. I've seen roughly 1200-1500 standing people all sit down exactly at once, at the same time, for absolutely no reason at all at a Dead show. It was like a wave of energy that swept through the crowd. I was sharing a special moment with a friend. We were tuned in to each other, not the crowd, and were the only ones left standing. It was astonishing. Coffee - the creature comforts are the last refuge of the complex - Great interview. Thanks for sharing.
