If the choice is between getting just the old kits again, or getting those atrociously uninspired Orruk kits from AoS injected into TOW, I'll take the old kits every time. EVERY time.

It would be nice to get new kits. But if this is the rate, they are going to pump out boxes for the old world (current pre-orders are basically arriving today) Then I can take that as a reasonable trade off

Disappointed as well, but I guess it is down to the sheer amount of plastic kits returning.

I love the idea of a new battalion boxset, but there’s only around 500pts of models in there. If this boxset is anymore than £50 I don’t see the value.

I do think the gloomspite gitz always ruled and fit in the old world too if aos orruks aren't to taste. They basically just updated old models.

@patrickconneely8051 tbf the old world prices aren't any better and actually worse in cases like the tomb king metal models where it's like 3 old metal models for 60 dollars🤷‍♂️ I actually have a theory that why there discouraging cross play factions with skaven/lizardmen is that they charge more for old metal models and want people to buy new armies. The ushbati are big offenders here with being 85 dollars that's terrible pricing, that's even worse than aos prices imo. Usually a 3 model unit with big size guys is 60, which is also bad.

yeah i got alot of unpainted dwarfs/goblins I've had for like 16 years, still unpainted rofl though old world has got me tempted

@@markimusmaximus7870 yea me too! Every now and then I'd find some used for about $1 a model and have collected quite a few of the old sculpts. One of my favorite things in WHFB and 40k are snotlings and grots. I know it's not competive but I'd live to field an entire army of them. 😀 My local LGS sells used minis and last year I picked up a bag of snots and gretchin and it had the original Red Gobbo in it, I freaked out!

Has someone mathed it out to see if it's around 1250 points worth of models?

@@alexmadrigal9703 - it's a long way short of that. Less than 200 points for the Orcs, same for the Goblins. 90 points each for the chariots. You'd struggle to get to 600 points. Add a character on a monster and you'd be a lot closer.

@@timothyharnedy4495 Gotcha, thanks for mathing that out. So not the same as a Starter Box, Battalions are definitely going to be smaller, which isn't really too bad if they're going to release other units alongside it.

I play beastmen and skaven but my best friend plays dwarfs and I’m excited for him. They have such a wonderful back catalogue of minis and there’s definitely models he’s been hoping to pick up for ages

Yeah the book art is amazing and it got me wanting a goblin wolf boss. Luckily the AoS snarlfang riders are pretty much on point for that

I was wondering how they would do future sets. Im hoping the same as you mate, hopefully a little less expensive for the ones without rulebooks.

That is exactly the intent with these boxes and how they use to sell them back in the day… come out with the big army box and then the battalions to bulk out or reinforce your forces

Can they come in units? Some chariots that couldn't originally now can (HE tiranoc ones for example). If they can it makes more sense.

Nah nah based on how the initial preorder went, those metal and made to order bits and pieces are going to be brutally expensive lol.

"Classic goblins"? Those are not classic goblins, that would be the old metal sculpts from Kev Adams (and maybe someone else). The goblins in the old world box are the worst goblins GW have ever put out.

If you don't like old models the Old World game is just not for you.

It's typically softer and not as brittle as standard 3d printing resin, but there are brands out there that are improving the brittleness.

What's the difference between the battalion box and a combat patrol? They look like they're both a bundle set of several plastic kits for a discount.

@@timothyharnedy4495 missing HQ and, arguably, a "special"/"elite" segment - if you don't count the chariots as filling that position. The nice thing about the CP boxes is that they're a largely contained affair. You can point a new player towards it and it'll give them everything they need to really get their foot in the door or sample a faction. The problem with the battalion boxes is that they miss the all-in-one aspect of the CP boxes. Moreover, and some people might feel differently about this, but the CP also tend to benefit from having one, or a small handful, of larger, more "centerpiece" models. So that would be like the raider and ravager in the DE CP, the rock grinder in the GSC box, or the battle suit in the Tau box. Basically what I'm saying is that the battalion box would have benefited from having a boss and maybe something like a doom diver, or an arachnarok spider if they really wanted to go hard.

Not only that but if you read the article that accompanied this they talk about how they had to fix and rework old moulds/masters. It blows my mind that with their production issues they've spent time remaking old moulds for metals. Imagine if Ford brought out the Capri again without any modern updates and retooled their production for the old parts.

Aren't throwing all in? They're bringing back metal minis with damn near the entire old range. Why spend a stupid amount of money and time making all new minis when this is basically fan service for the veterans. If it takes off, you'll see new things.

Because you can already get them, just with an AOS label on.

Kislev had some a bit of minis from 90's and 00's (e.g. winged lancers)

I was hoping for a new multi part kit for a Warboss or shaman on WYVERN, like the Bret Pegasus or the Bone dragon, a big centerpiece for the orcs. It's pretty dissaponting for the orc and goblins players to recieve none other than two on foot characters while the other two factions got a lot new
