The strongest and most violent storm in history? Some one is relying on the fact that most people won't fact check the long history of typhoons in the Philippine Islands and subsequent death tolls.

Typhoon Haiyan was a category 7. which didn't even exist before the typhoon hit. I feel like you need to check your facts.

Eva Samuel Did they even have categories in 1912? In 1912 a typhoon hit the philippine islands and killed 15000 and the population was smaller. Hiyan killed 7000. If you would actually check the history you would see there have been many and records have been kept differently through out history. I will just dismiss your argument as irrelevant.

To be fair it does say "recorded history". It would be impossible to compare it to anything before records began, certainly in terms of the strength of the storm. I don't think death tolls aren't necessarily an indication of a storm being stronger - isn't it possible that improvements in housing, our ability to prepare for extreme weather events and other factors may have contributed to a lower death toll than in 1912?

To be fair. There are records.That is how comparisons are made. Using semantics and excuses about numbers and conditions is dubious indeed. Numbers don't lie but people with an agenda do. Many extreme weather events have a long recurring historical record. .
