If you go to prison, it should be about rehabilitation and reintegration into society, unless you are deemed to be a permeant threat do to untreatable disposition. Punishment does not work well. Norway's prisons work well for Norway. Every country is a bit different and what works in one place may not in another. That being said, it would be good for countries to look around at how other countries do things to try to get some ideas for improvements. In the US, if we tried to have all our prisons like those in Norway, the gangs would have a field day. However, for certain kinds of offender, a more Norwegian approach might be helpful.

As a norwegian i can say our prisson systems are great, before we changed it people returning to prison was in the 70% but after it it was as low as 20%. The trick is to treat them with humans and rehabiliate them and help them get a skill that will give them work. But if you treat them like monsters no matter what thats what they are gonna be like when they come out. Sure there are some horrible people but as long as you keep them in prison they shulndt be a danger to the publick.

This is an interesting topic to talk about. I'm honestly not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand, I absolutely feel the prisoners convicted of crime need to serve their time and shouldn't be rewarded for their crimes. On the other hand, I feel like anything that improves the prison system I approve of, even greet with open arms, especially if the prisoners didn't commit an unforgiving crime. I don't know. Rehab is great if the individual happened to be habilitated to begin with. Some offenders aren't, which is one reason why so many rehab programs fail. It's kind of like expecting someone to get proficient at calculus by having a calculus review when the person never completed algebra. It just doesn't work well. The trouble is that habilitation takes longer and costs more than rehab and many people are reluctant to fund prisons.

Would make for a good reward for work. Lots of them are in there because they have a hard time working to earn what they want so a good step in rehabilitation would be to have them work and get rewarded for it

If rehabilitation is a goal as well as punishment than conjugal should be allowed as it aids in that goal.

Actually having been there, I can say that many husband turn to relationships in prison. All but one did so because they couldn't be with their wife. That was over a five year period, so I am for the visits. Cruel and usual punishment...

They shouldn't be allowed having them not commit more crimes in prison is not a good reason that's them basically saying "oh we can behave but only when we feel like it".

25% of prison inmates have A.S.P.D both factor-1 (Psychopath) and factor-2 (Sociopath). Both respond to punishment differently than neurotypicals. Simply stated punishment doesn't work. We are much more driven by rewards. So allowing these visits to well behaved inmates is a good idea. Also, they typically only are allowed with married inmates to increase family bonds and help ensure they don't offend again. Prison is, after all, supposed to be a rehabilitation center. Cheers.
