PLEASE PIN THIS COMMENT. This video is doing a temendous disservice to everyone experiencing the sluggish starting issue and thinking is the honda battery and then even the replacement Duralast battery. The batteries are fine. Honda has an elememt that comes between the battery terminal and the rest of battery cable. Is in a little black box attaced where the cable connects to battery terminal. The plastic cover has to be opened with flat head screwdriver, taken apparent and sanded down like sanding any other corroded element. And 99% of the time the sluggish startup and lack of recharge is resolved immediately and permanently. Simple.

My 2014 Accord had the same problem, there was also a recent 2 part battery control module recall supposedly to address moisture issues. Mine died right after the 3 year warranty and 2 days after the recall. Of course Honda denied there was a problem with the battery. The service writer said that's normal they don't make em like they used to bs. I had a 2003 Subaru Forester the factory battery lasted 8 years.

Guys, here's the thing. I'm with Honda assembly line (not in us). When we put those parts together we were instructed to put the smallest and probably cheapest battery into the car. The idea is to roll the car out asap with the cheapest cost. We target the battery to last only 1 year or less. So guys change ur batts once u get ur new car. There's nothing wrong with the accord, good car. Only problem with rolling out cost

I had that problem with an old vehicle of mine the battery couldn't handle the LED lights which caused me to not only have battery problems but starter problems as well when I got rid of those LED lights I had no more problems.

Did this with a 2003 Accord LX 4 cylinder. 51r to 35. It was like night and day. I was floored.

This has been going on since the 2003 model. I have an 09 Accord (purchased in '15) and been through 3 duralast gold batteries. I will be doing this upgrade this summer (you can use a 35 or 24F (more cca than the 35)). That battery was put in from the factory (Model 51R) in an attempt to make the car lighter.

When I saw my battery in my accord I thought 🤔 “ Ok, who thought it was cute to put their gulf cart battery in here?” 😂

My 14" Accord battery is 3 years old and dying. When the weather is very cold I had problem starting the engine. CCA is 203 and after taking it to Advance Auto Parts for a slow charge it still slowly dying. CCA is now 310 while the battery rating is 4xx. Car is out of warranty and i was planning to buy another Honda battery at the local Honda dealer for $145 w/o the core. Your video made me think twice buying another Honda battery. I will go with another brand. Optima red or yellow top is my first choice. I had it on my Jeep GC. I heard from other reviewers Optima batteries are no longer reliable ever since the factory moved to Mexico! Decision decision...good video.

Thanks for upload and all comments, I just had a nasty experience up in Canada yesterday. Even in a heated garage, my ‘15 Sport 6M was slow to start, it actually always turned over better sitting in the cold. I go about 3 miles yesterday, thought I stalled, car wouldn’t start again, got a Charging System message. I was going to get that recall for the batt sensor done on my next oil change, but regardless, it’s apparent the 9th gen batteries suck, and being on my 3rd winter and having bought late in 2015 after the car sat for a year, can’t believe I was so foolish not to change the battery. Add to that lost wages, and the headache of losing my car all weekend because I wasn’t present for the tow and Honda didn’t have my keys.....very frustrating on car that’s costing almost 30k CAD$. Oh well.....great vid brother....keep it up

As a reference point, we have a 2013 EX-L without navigation. The original battery died soon after 3 years/26k miles (surprise :) ). Replaced with a Duralast gold just like the one in this video and it has been 5 years and the battery is still at 79%. We live in the Dallas area so it is very hot in summer. Btw, this seems to be a way for the service (or even parts) dept to make more $. When I first mentioned that we had trouble starting the car (because of the battery issue), they wanted to charge a flat $150 to diagnose the vehicle. Guess some people will just pay for it and then get another Honda battery installed (part & labor, no less). How sweet...

I replaced the battery in my 2007 Honda Odyssey with a Bosch Platinum AGM Battery last week after my Die Hard Gold battery failed after almost six years of use. The battery before it was a Honda battery, which corroded the positive terminal wires, and the wires had to be cut off and replaced with the Die Hard battery six years ago. The CCA for the Bosch Platinum AGM battery is 710, which is better for extreme cold weather.

I purchased a new tray and hold downs for an Accord V6 which comes with the larger battery. The installation looks factory and the battery tray helps shield the battery from heat like the original. I didn't bother replacing the sleeve over the battery because it didn't look like it served any purpose.

Costco sell an interstate Battery with 500 cranking amps for 80 bucks. 42 month warranty and it fits properly..

Add distilled water to your battery. I opened mine battery and some sections was very low on sulfuric acid.

Some people say that sometimes it might iñbe the battery sensor that needs replacing. It sends message to the computer so that the alternator charges the battery. I believe there was a recall for it for the 2013, 2014 , etc.? Accords.

I wish you had a video of accord 2013, and why the lights keep randomly going out. Sometimes the front right headlight goes out, but the fuse and bulb are perfect.

My daughter has a 2014 Honda Accord which we purchased from the dealership (certified) in 2017. She has replaced the battery twice and the alternator just this week and it is STILL having instances of not starting. I have a 2014 Accord Coupe which I purchased in 2015 and replaced the battery in 2020. I thought Honda's had a better track record but now I know differently. Next time maybe I'll try a Mazda.

I think it’s the car too, on my ‘14 accord I put in a gold premium battery from advance auto $155 bucks and it lasted exactly 2 years.. bought it July 2018 and I replaced it today July 29 2020..

Does Accord 13-17 come with an alternator which would work with an AGM battery? As you know AGM's don't like getting over charged.

I have the same issue with my 17 sport . I let it sit for 3 days without driving my car won't crank but the battery isn't completely dead. Every time I have it tested it test good. It's under warranty with Honda but they won't replace it because it test as being good.

I replaced the battery in my Accord 4 cyl with a Honda 100 Month battery 500CCA ..It does fine . My new 2020 Camry XLE 4 Cyl has a 603CCA .. Honda has started putting weaker batteries in their cars . That sucks .

It’s not just the fact the battery isn’t as good. Bear in mind, there is a battery sensor on one terminal which can stall the alternator to only provide so much voltage

Ignore the 32 CCA. Still have the original on my '14. Other cars I've had batteries last less than one year, another one was nine years old when we traded the car. I never know what brand to buy. You should have been in Wisconsin with '70's crappy carburated EPA choked cars in the winter. -20 F (-28C) or colder. Fun. Replacing batteries with the wind blowing, cold tools, thin gloves.

I got problem already with that 51r group battery 500cca, I do uber & have many electronics devices, I wanna upgrade it. but I went to many of this autozone, pepboys & they don't recommend to upgrade the battery cause they says that it has more amp can cause problems, I have a CRV LX honda 2017. 2.4L. $50 walmart Value Power 24F last 2.8 years till positive side of the battery swelled and drops under 12v under load. Going with the same battery again.

2008 Honda Accord EX, have had it for almost two years and today when I went to leave for work and it failed to start...had a friend give me a jump and it started right up. It's always had issues with cranking slowly when it's cold out but it's never refused to start until this morning. Also, when the cooling fan kicks on the headlights dim for a split second which is rather annoying.

Bought a 2015 accord sport from my mom after my 09 cobalt was crushed in storage by a falling tree. In her trip here to Michigan from Maryland, "the car just stopped" as she put it. She took it to the nearest place (walmart) and bought an evarstart maxx series battery, factory size; after they told her that was the issue. Well it worked fine, for a week and a half until it left me stranded on the way home from work in the snow. Alternator took a crap, so I replaced that with a NEW (not remanufactured) one. Day 2 driving it out of the shop, CEL comes on. And sporadically; all of the lights of the car will momentarily dim and go back to normal brightness. The mechanic mentioned something about "i hope it isnt the power control module, cause even a new alt and batt won't fix that". Any ideas? Gonna run it on my code tester tomorrow and see what she threw.

I find this "bad battery" a bit interesting, if you look up some info on this part (as someone who has owned multiple Hondas) as far back to the early 90s Honda has been using the 51R Group batteries(the "R" actually delineates reversed terminals so not any 51 battery will work unless you replace your battery terminal leads to be longer) for a long time in this specific Model for the 2013 Accord in California they actually used the 35 group battery so not really an upgrade if it came as OE Equipment in a different region just the rest of the US got what Honda has used for years.

I actually had my original battery replaced at the dealership today. it only cost $90. I noticed the new battery is 500 CCA. So it's definitely has more amps than the original on my 2013 Accord 4cyl. And also had the battery sensor replaced for free because there is a recall on the sensor. So to me it looks like the new 51R batteries have more amps than the old ones.

we have a 2014 sport and knock on wood we haven't had problems and we use the car literally every single day. we even charge devices leave the radio on while someone goes in the store. But I have noticed that the start up was getting sluggish but all of a sudden it started up fast again and it's been back to normal after that. But if our battery ever dies we live right across the street from the Honda service center so I think we'll be fine lol

It isn't just Accords. My 2009 CRV has that same 51R battery. I haven't got much more than 3 years out of any battery. I am going to look at getting a 24F next time it needs a battery

Good video. Honda should not have put a Civic sized battery in the Accord. The 2016-17 also has this smaller battery. Here is what I did on my 1.5 year old 2016 Accord Sport. I purchased the five parts from Honda that are needed for the larger battery that is in the V6. The two pieces that the video showed on the ground that are the battery housing. The top metal battery hold down bracket for the larger battery. And the two studs that secure the battery. The total cost was about $45 from discount online Honda parts source. I removed the five parts from the car and installed the new parts on the smaller battery which is working fine now. The larger battery parts fit OK other than the from top holddown bracket floating at the front because the smaller battery does not reach to the end of the bracket. The back of holddown secures the battery from moving. When I need to replace the battery, I will drop it in and will fit the new parts perfectly.

I have a 51R battery (OE) in my 2007 Honda Civic that is 4 yrs old and still going strong. You need to keep your terminals clean for your battery to last. From what I see of your old battery is corroded terminals.

And 2005 years too. I put a 24F interstate battery in mine . That 51R size Sucks in all 4 cycle cars. I have 940c ams and 750cc ams ..

I bought a brand new Honda Accord 2014. The car has battery issues since year 1! I just replace the battery every 9 months. Today the battery died on me within 6 months of installing new battery. Next time I will get a bigger battery. BTW I am based in Middle East & my accord is same as yours, made in USA.

You just need to Clean the corrosion on the 3 ground wire harness. One ground wire is connected to the battery and the other one is hidden under. Honda's electrical wirings are designed to corrode & fail after several years. You should clean all ground wire terminals because Honda used dissimilar types of metal. Perfect recipe for Galvanic Corrosion. The Transmission Ground Wire is HIDDEN under the air cleaner bracket near battery. You will need to remove the front splash shield to have access on the opposite end of the transmission ground cable. The last one is under the engine support. After cleaning the terminal the steering wheel feels almost 2x lighter. I mistakenly taught that I'm getting used to EPS. You can use Multi-Purpose Grease to seal the connections. The best option is to replace the copper terminal with steel and use heat shrink to seal the copper wiring.
