Today we're showing you why as Americans, we love the UK, the unexpected surprises we have learned while travelling throughout the UK and how we realized that the UK feels like home for a number of reasons. We're exploring these similarities and things we love about the UK while visiting a coastal town Cara used to take family holidays at while growing up. Now that we've spent time in the UK, we are curious how the American versions of British things we love stack up. We are sharing unique and geeky places all around the world every week, so make sure you check out the rest of our videos and subscribe. @@tenniskinsella7768 not in the slightest actually. As an English gal born and bred and lived here 4 decades and never lived anywhere else I thoroughly agreed with Vinnie M. 9 times out of 10 you go to the seaside it’s not warm enough to actually go in the sea. And if it is, the beaches get so crowded cuz everyone flocks there. We just dig a few sandcastles then go and find food and entertainment on the pier. I’m well chuffed when it’s actually warm enough to go in the water and dry off in the sun. Usually we go to wales cuz at least there’s gorgeous coastal walks. And by saying ‘it’s like being abroad, people are referring to the Sun and heat not the scenery. Yes other countries can have ugly beaches but they usually have more consistent weather. We are a fairly northern country and a small island which means we get long dark winters with barely any sun and our summers nights can stay light til 10pm. But it still pisses it down a lot most summers. One year it snowed in June ffs! Although last summer was unbearable. Spent most of it trying to keep our dog from overheating.

Take the bus ride from Bude to Tintagel,on a sunny day this particular stretch or most of it is spectacular. But be careful to check bus times as this route is not well served and a bit unreliable. I recommend the bus as then you can both enjoy the stunning view instead of having to drive. Actually even better would be to stay overnight at Tintagel as there is lots there also.

Freezing cold, grey and damp, blowing a gale, and everything closed. Yes,you certainly did replicate the authentic British seaside experience! For a similar seaside attraction experience you might try Barry Island next time you're here(in UK). Never heard of tuna as the "fish" but probably was tasty. Those chips didn't look right though. They looked processed not just normal bits of cut potato. And the beach - grey, muddy and unnalluring, could have been Weston super mare! Much better behaved seagulls, the ones in UK,as you probably know are,or can be bold, aggressive muggers. I really enjoyed this film. Im joking (a bit) with my comments. That hotel looked very nice. I've seen a few of your films and you both definitely have a psychogeographic link to UK. Maybe you could rent a house for a year and live here as a try out.

I liked this one a lot! I'm a Brit who's lived on or around the south coast all his life and never been out of the country. Some of my favourite places here I've visited are ones that remind me of home in some way, especially if they're near the sea. "Oh wow, it's the same but different!" This video gives me that same comfy vibe, especially those grey skies, haha! Would love to visit that part of America one day. Kinda intrigued by the tuna fish'n'chips, love that neither of you are ever negative in comparisons in either direction and I have to give a hat-tip to Jeremy's quality t-shirts. Cheers for sharing!

If you want the Welsh arcade and sea side experience, please come to Barry Island (not really an Island). Good arcades, some fun fair amusements and a beautiful beach. Nice fish n chips and if you're after something a little more independent you can find it at Barry Good sheds (or go towards the highstreet). One of my favourite Welsh beaches is on Anglesey, looking over to Eryri from Traeth Llanddwyn is a magical experience. I also hear that there is a pub on the beach at Traeth Porthdinllaen, but I've not been yet!

Funny fact, a few years ago, I did a driving tour around beautiful Wales. I soon became confused by why so many of the beaches seemed to have the same name, as I kept seeing all these signs for "Traeth Beach.". But eventually the penny dropped when I realised that traeth is just the Welsh word for beach! My excuse is that I'm just not used to seeing multilingual road signs here in Surrey. 😆

I love your channel. I thought I'd share an interesting bit of history. I am from a town in the north east of England called Washington. It was built on a small village of the same name which is derived from the House of de Wessington (local nobles). The coat of arms of the de Wessigtons is the stars and stripes. George Washington was decended from these people and the US flag is derived from his coat of arms. As a child we'd mark July the 4th, several presidents have visited the village and lots of the places in the new town are named after american places and people. I was born on a street called Trenton Avenue, just off Valley Forge. My friends went to JFK primary school.

If you're after a quirky little museum visit Bexhill museum. And whilst you're there, you can see iguanodon footprints embedded in the rocks on the beach right next to the main road (you can find them using geocaching). Also Brighton in the same area has loads of museums including the booth with some great taxidermy, police cells museum and toy museum. But if you're after somewhere uber cool to grab a drink, Zu Studios in the beautiful and historic town of Lewes also nearby is definitely the place to go. And whilst you're there you can visit Anne of Cleves House, the small castle (where I used to work) and the priory, though not sure how much they all cost as I got in free. And if your budget stretches to it, you could stay in a local lighthouse called Belle Tout near the famous Beachy Head and Seven Sisters, which are best viewed from Birling Gap. And if you love castles Bodiam is one of the best in the area. All these things are in the same vicinity not far from each other. And if you come here let me know and I'll tell you where you can drive right through the middle of a field of sheep.

Loved this Video. In 2017, i was working at Tesla in Fremont CA for 7 months. In July, i took my Holiday over there, and flew my partner over form the UK. We had a hire car, and traveled all the way up the West Coast to Vancouver Island in Canada. We had purchased a load of camping gear from WalMart, So, stopped at a lot of Camp sites enroute. On the way back, we stopped at the Hampton Inn and Suites in Astoria, where you could here the Seals from the Hotel room 🙂. The next day, we got to see what was called the great American Eclipse, and WOW , what a great experience. I must say, Oregon, is my favorite US State and my girlfriend agreed. We found the people so friendly and genuine. I all so love the wine region, so beautiful. You are blessed to live in such a wonderful state. And one last thing, we had some great fish and chips there with the Pacific Cod ;). Keep up the great work guys, love your channel. ❤❤

That is crazy! I am from UK and yet I have been to Astoria and I have had fish and chips there! I stayed in Portland which I loved. I didn't go to Long Beach though I went to Seaside, Oregon. Any seaside town in UK will have amusement arcades. I normally go to Southsea. The Penny Falls are my favourite, they have loads of them. As for the museum, there are plenty of places like this. Near me in Hampshire there is Milestones living museum and also a village in the New Forest called Burley that is associated with witchcraft and all the little shops have quirky witchy things, I love it there LOL

I did a road trip around New York state and New England several years ago. It absolutely pissed down with rain a lot of the time, and I really felt at home! ;) Yeah, people go on about all the differences between the UK and the US, but there are actually a lot of similarities too, especially in some places. Yeah, the seaside is the seaside. On another trip, Santa Monica felt pretty much like Bournemouth on a nice day. 😀 With the pier and everything.

The Vintage Emporium in Stockport, Greater Manchester is a fun place to visit - I've never seen alligator people there, but lots of interesting things and a cute little cafe in the middle. The nearby Moviescape Escape Rooms are great fun too!

Also, for a seafront arcade experience - probably Scarborough. Maybe Blackpool too - that's somewhere you should probably go once... maybe just once! If you're going to Brighton, then there'll be a few things like that on the pier. And nearby Worthing is like a calmer Brighton, but they'll have amusements when it's the right season for it.

As an American, I am fascinated by Britain because of the people, and because of the extremely old architecture and history that is woven into daily living. Also, England has such a unique feel to it. It reminds me of King Arthur, and The Sword and The Stone.

Love this so much. If you like amusements, I can’t remember if you’ve been to Brighton Pier. Good fish and chips there too, but the seagulls are obnoxious. I saw them attack a grown man for a hot dog, so guard them well. The only place I can think of like the curio museum is the witch museum in Boscastle, Cornwall. It’s my favourite museum ever. Boscastle is also an adorable little town that is well worth a visit. Jamaica Inn has a little museum too that I love. You can also stay there (it’s too haunted for me!) and I have to buy a Daphne Du Maurier book each time in the gift shop. 🥰

Speaking of all the movies filmed there, there is a place on the Isle of man that looks very similar, same style itf houses etc (actually it has a few different anerican style houses built in it) and it is actually used for filming movies and shows set in America, they are aet up complete with American plug sockets and light switches, American road signs outside even old American cars parked up to complete rhe atmosphere and illusion. I've seen it a good few tears ago and it looks really cool. Ive seen it in a few movies (cant name any off hand, but i do remember one had David Schwimer and Simon Pegg in it) its got a deck area with old boats scattered about the place. It reminded me very nuch of the Goonies filming location. Well worth visiting.if you can afford the ferry to the isle of man that is. When i went about 20 years ago it cost around £45 for a damily retuen ticket on the ferry. I think it's over £100 per person now. Its a Shame because i would d love to go back, but with my family it would cost nearly as muxh as it would to go abroad now.

If you want weird and quirky museums, then the UK is the place to be lol! Years ago, in a tiny village near where I lived, there was a little museum dedicated to the Victorian passion of capturing and stuffing any little creature that they came across. Cute little dormice, baby rabbits, frogs, voles, shrews etc. They then created fantasy scenes with the creatures dressed up in Victorian clothes and posed to look like humans participating in every day endevours! It was quite macabre, but weirdly fascinating! When it closed, the collection was bought by the Jamaica Inn in Cornwall and we came across it once again when there on holiday. It's no longer there and I'd love to know what happened to it. Atlas Obscura is a great website to find unusual and often downright bizarre museums in the UK.

It was called Walter Potter's Museum of Curiosities, I remember it being in Arundel, as you say it was moved to the Jamaica Inn, it then got sold and the new owners split it up and it is now scattered around the world, such a shame.

I’m such a fan of your channel, your visits to the uk reminds me that it’s not such a bad place after all. I’ve spent a bit of time in Oregon and Washington and both particularly Portland left a very big soft spot in my heart. It’s still the place I’d choose to move to if I could go anywhere and I’m sure this was in part the little similarities to home I found but with all the great bits of the US thrown in too. Am I right in thinking Sleater Kinney are from Astoria?

The only time I've seen Tuna in a Fish & Chip shop was in the form of Fishcakes (The Brigg in Dunfermline used to sell them, along with Cod ones), pretty sure they were bought in from a whole-seller as opposed to anything made on site, as it was obviously the same tuna you get in cans. That said I do remember another chippy in Rosyth selling battered Salmon Belly once, far as oily fish goes. That said, we clearly must send emergency shipments of Curry Sauce to the USA... like several barrels worth of it.
