I'm a fan of small capacity motorbikes in general and so I am always keen to test smaller new machines as they become available. I don't think I've ever seen a "full size" 125cc Adventure Bike though and that's really what the Sinnis Terrain is - but is it any good? Stick around and stay tuned to find out!
Many thanks to Sinnis for making the bike available to me for loan, visit them here www.sinnismoto...

I wish bikes like that existed when I was 17. I had to do my first biking holiday (in 1979!) on a Honda CG125, with my tent, sleeping bag, cooking gear and clothes all bungee tied to the pillion! Great review thanks.

@@peterrobinson7973 My mate on that aforementioned trip was on a CB125 of 1978 vintage. We went from the Suffolk coast up to the Peak District and when we arrived at our pre-booked campsite in Edale we got turned away because they didn't accept "bikers". Bearing in mind we were a couple of fairly nerdy 17 year old schoolboys from rural Suffolk, riding 125's on L plates, we were fairly flattered to be called "bikers". Luckily we managed to find another campsite and notwithstanding being stung by a bee on the trip up and a wasp on the way home (just wearing zip up bomber jackets in those days), we had a memorable trip.

These things are bomb proof, I've had a Terrain for just under a year now and it's never let me down, even after it got nicked and ridden within an inch of its life.

My admittedly bias view is that it's a purchase new and throw it away after a couple of years when the warrenty runs out, but it's great to see a manufacturer that provides pretty much everything you need as standard. If only all manufacturers were so inclined.

Just a little additional too - all of our range come with full AA relay, recovery, battery assist, fuel assist and top level cover. For peace of mind of those that think the quality isnt as good as it actually is :)

For the past 12 months this has been my every day bike. Excellent commuter bike. Build quality, reliability, handling, and equipment all outstanding. The low 1st and 2nd gears won't help you win the Traffic Light Grand Prix but are ideal when on mud, gravel, ice, or snow. If you want something that goes like a sports bike buy a sports bike. If you want an excellent commuter bike that you can take adventure riding too buy the Sinnis Terrain :-)

125cc Commuting Adventure bike! :D But seriously, for £2549 you get full luggage (panniers+top box), full protection (engine and rear crash bars), proper adventure foot pegs with rubber inserts for vibration damping, center stand, hand guards, GS-like front end with the beak, good dashboard with functionality and a USB charging port, a big enough fuel tank for at least 400km and a 2 year warranty! Damn, that IS impressive! Despite it being a small displacement bike with not a lot of power, a package like this for a beginner rider is an absolute winner for the money!

My friend who I work with has a Sinnis RSX 125 which he has had for just over 12 months and although it hasn't let him down the build quality and amount of rust it has on it is frightening. It is washed weekly during the worst of the winter months but it still hasn't helped the exposed areas of the bike. It's a shame as it looks smart for a 125 but they need to up there game if they want to compete with the big Japanese boys.
@cloggsy1971

I’m sure it wouldn’t rot quite as much if treated with ACF50 once every couple of washes it’d be fine 👍🏻
@TheMissendenFlyer
@TheMissendenFlyer 5 жыл бұрын
Yes fastidious looking after is the key to longevity with these - I ran a Sinnis Scrambler through last winter (rode it in the snow, rain, etc) and with regular ACF50ing it was fine after 6 months of use....

Looks a great little bike, love the looks, bars, storage and usb feature. While we don't know about the quality, I bet it's better that the Ural I foolishly bought once! Your Teapotone interview made me realise how easy it is to under estimate all the work to sort, edit and upload this material. I guess I thought a quick ride and upload was all it took, sorry TMF I might have underestimated your talent and effort!

Cheers Ray - if only it were just Filming and uploading! There's the researching, sourcing material (bikes), search engine optimisation, responding to 100's of comments each day, social media, etc etc...I spend I reckon 14-18 hours a day 7 days a week looking after TMF....in the main the effort is fun, but not to be underestimated!

I must say it looks really smart and has all you need but as good as it looks I think you would still need to be fastidious about cleaning and protecting to stand a fighting chance to keep corrosion at bay .If I was in the market for a 125 I would buy one of these the money saved against main stream machines would buy a lot of acf50 lol .

I’ve come to believe: 1) Having at least two motorcycles amplifies the pleasure by more than double and 2) It’s better to have two quite different bikes you can afford to run than one bike that consumes your time and resources. The other thing a bike like this does is help cleanse ye ol’hubris, and for many a biker, that’s not such a bad idea.

Your comment about riding a small/slow bike to it's full potential reminds me of James May from Top Gear. Yes he has Ferraris and other fast cars but he always said on the show how he enjoyed the small cars more, notably a Fiat Panda...because you could take them to the limit of grip and not be at dangerous speeds.

Its one of those clip in switches.. shame they didn't clip it in then.. attention to detail !!! the dealer surely tried the lights before they handed it over to TMF. Otherwise they let him ride off on an illegal bike. Maybe they supply a stick on the key-ring so you can jam it in when it gets dark. I know you get what you pay for but you'd get a decent honda 125 for the same money.

I really think I have to spend some money buying the luggage racks, boxes and engine guards, and knowing that Sinnis is around makes it much more easy to upgrade my Derby Terra, so that's going to be a good thing. I'm going to need this when I'm riding 14 000+ km

Don't laugh I'm seriously considering buying this little Chinese machine for my proposed ride from Kent to The Gambia. I currently ride a Suzuki GSX1250. The clincher for me here is that riding a 125 bike will cut down on costs hugely. My route will be UK, France, Spain, Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Senegal and finally The Gambia where I own a small apartment in Sekuta. I plan on doing the whole trip (3,000 miles) in 14 days. Riding on motorways at 50MPH will be painfully long but once I've crossed into Morocco things will become much kinder of both myself and the little bike. I'm a 55 year old retired bike cop with 40 years riding experience. I don't need to impress anyone and have no problem riding a little 125. For those of you who fancy an African adventure, as a seasoned African traveller I can honestly say that in Africa a 125cc bike makes ultimate sense. It's all you really need. What counts is reliability and robustness. I don't see a problem riding this little Chinese bike. The other bikes I've considered is a Honda 100 Cub step through or a Honda CG125.

If I'm not mistaken, the design is based on the Derbi Terra (Adventure) 125 which is no longer being produced. Other rivals include the Honda Varadero 125, Suzuki V-Strom 250, Kawasaki Versys 300, Keeway TX 125 Enduro, CSC RX3/RX4, and the WK Bikes Trial (400 cc).

Still riding mine, 2yrs later with no issues. Does 130mpg at least. USB port isn't for charging anything. I mean it DOES charge but then the bike can't recharge it's own battery enough. The top box doesn't fit a helmet. If you remove all the crash bars, luggage and fairings it flies along lol

I would class the Honda XL125 Varadero as the first decent 'full size' 125. Its a shame that its EOL now and you can only get it 2nd hand. Holds it value really well and worth it if you are a 'larger' person haha I really miss mine and considering getting another just for fun to go alongside my Tracer Great vid! shame ive only just seen this. If you havent been on the xl125 Varadero and you get a chance to... try it :) All the best!

I have been very interested in the various Sinnis reviews. This one in particular. The bike is an identikit match to what is sold here in Indonesia as the VIAR Vortex. VIAR based in Jakarta "make" a range of bikes. In fact as so often these days they in fact assemble the bikes. I am now going to delve further into the roots of my VIAR CrossX 150c.....

It's good to see another smaller capacity bike on a longer term review, especially a maybe not so popular make. Slightly sad that no other makers offer a 125 adventure. I know the van van from suzuki would have been a sort of rival for it but I'm not sure you can buy them new any more. The top speed was similar to this bike though. It will be good to see how this bike stacks up:)

Here in Australia we have trouble with some Chinese manufacturers who are here today gone tomorrow. This leaves owners with no spares parts.
@BN1960
@BN1960 5 жыл бұрын
That's 'cos there are generic makers of bikes and bike parts in China who you can go to and ask them to make you say, 10000 Peter bikes, which they will. You then find they are actually shit quality and you get far more warranty claims than you expected which gives you zero profit. So you bail out early and dump the rest of your stock leaving existing customers with no support at all. Happens in the UK & Europe a lot. I know people in the trade who will not touch anything Chinese for that very reason.

@BN1960

Their parts page doesn't say that though does it? It says; "Sinnis carry in stock many items including regulator rectifiers, handlebars, panels and fairings, chain and sprocket kits, service items (oil, filters and gaskets), brake and clutch cables, a range of scooter and motorcycle batteries, spark plugs, a comprehensive range of motorcycle and scooter tyres, switch gear and much, much more - peace of mind is at the core of our values. " That's not 98% of anything. Suggest you get your facts right and do some simple research before stating things that are obvious garbage eh?

Great vid as always. Chinese bicycles are typically equipped with centre stands as space is limited in China (ironic) and typical stands waste more space than it is good for, so it only makes sense for the motorcycles to come with the same treatment.

Yep the capability on and off-road with these is actually pretty good but just like a lot of Chinese bikes the build quality is still not consistent. But if you’re looking for a cheap and capable bike that’s light to manhandle, this isn’t a bad option. Cheers

I have had a few Chinese bikes. They are good for light duty on-road use. Do not take them off road. They will break. The frames are pretty weak and the suspension "looks" beefy but really is not. Other than that, they are okay for daily commute or other basic usage.

How can they make this for so little or ate we being ripped off? My dct africa twin costs extra for 12v socket , 200 quid extra for a centre stand 300 for crash bars and my box's were a massive £1300. I understand the quality isn't the same but come on 10 grand difference just on the standard bike. It's still got 2 wheels a tank , suspension and looks great. This will be a big seller and that's how they will start to take over the market. Wait till a bigger engine version comes out which it will.

Hi flyer. Ended up getting one of these on Saturday. Was going for a mutt mongrel but it's still on the slow boat from China so to speak. The mongrel was my "heart" choice. The terrain was my " head" choice as long distance adventuring is my aim. Great bike although this dinnertime I couldn't start it until I realised I hadn't put the stand up lol. Off to Manchester and Wales at the weekend. Only thing I've found is where you mention an oasis of calm from the visit I seem to be in a whirlwind vortex and can barely hear the engine!! Perhaps it is a bit under-powered compared to other bikes in its class but this Sinnis Terrain is certainly on the right path for future improvement and a power upgrade. And speaking of paths, can we expect to see any off-road riding with this GS inspired "Adventure Bike" in the future reviews you mentioned? It is named Terrain after all. Go on. Give her a go and get some dirt on the ruddy thing. Please. ;-)

Always good to see the available options at all price and performance levels. Personally, I'd definitely swerve this one, at it seems under-powered for give-and-take UK roads.

Well I'd argue all 125s are really - 250cc I think is the safe minimum in the UK - but we all have to start (with a CBT) on a 125cc somewhere.....

My 66 plate Sinnis Apache wasn’t even 4 months old before the speedo stopped working, a year later despite regular washes and acf50 on the exhaust it’s got eaten away by rust. I would by any other one, I’ve learnt the hard way, given them time and they should improve dramatically but for the time being no thanks

Great review - would be good if it could make it over 60, but then again the Yamaha ys125 only has 8kw. The wife had a KSR moto worx that would batter along at 65 on A roads, made a huge difference. Like the little add on's and seems good value for money. as you said, what do you expect from a 125 under £3k....

A little bit slower than some 125s but rather a moot point for an adventure bike. Sit back, relax, chill out and enjoy seeing the world. A lot of bike for the money and a cheap way to go travelling. Nobody motorcycles based in Holmfirth do a similar looking 250c.f. For not much more.

This has more than a passing resemblance to the Derbi (Aprillia) Terra Adventure. I had one for a year, that had the 15hp RS125 motor & happily overtook lorries on the m-ways. To me, the Sinnis seems a little underpowered for its intended use

Sorry but even by 125 standards that's underpowered. All that weight and at best 10bhp? Not good. Most Japanese 125s can do 60+ fairly easily. Even my 2000 Suzuki DR 125 can do 65mph... This bike just isn't up to scratch imho. Same with most Chinese bikes. CG 125 - 60+MPH YBR 125 - 65+MPH CBR 125 (old and new) - 70+MPH YZFR125 - 80+MPH WR125X - 70+ MPH Varadero - 70+MPH Aprilia RS4 125 - 75+MPH Rieju Pro 125 - 70+MPH KTM Duke - 70+MPH I can honestly go on all day if anyone wants a consecutive list. And let's not even talk about the 2 Strokes speed. Oh, and this is talking from rider experience, not hearsay or online forums BS.
