Welcome to the official KZfaq channel of The Monkees, home of 60s chart-topping hits “Last Train To Clarksville,” “I’m A Believer” and “Daydream Believer,” as well as multi-platinum, #1 albums ‘The Monkees,’ ‘More of the Monkees,’ ‘Headquarters’ and ‘Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones, Ltd.’
Monkee-mania began in Los Angeles in 1965 when Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, the late Peter Tork and the late Davy Jones were cast in the eponymous television series about a struggling rock band inspired by The Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night. The quartet brought a singular mix of pop, rock, psychedelia, Broadway and country to their resulting music. By the time the series aired its final episode on March 25, 1968, The Monkees had sold 16 million albums and 7.5 million singles. Few could have predicted the impact The Monkees would have on music and pop culture at large, one that still reverberates more than 50 years later.

I agree with you. Not sure how gracefully I have aged. But times from my past are locked into some wonderful memories. It looks as though you embrace a culture as well. I do also. A much different one. But music has always been magical to me. Far back in my youth. I still have an extensive music collection. And every song brings me to a place or person. Many I've lost. Families mostly were bigger in my time. 8 in mine all gone but 1. Most were lost at young ages. But these songs refresh that time for me. It's magical as I said. ✌️☮️🌹🥲

*WHAT!?!?* *'Wool Cap Mike' is gone?* *I didn't know* ( *Like Lennon said in '70 "Don't worry over us, we're alright and so are you and everything you liked of the 'Beatles' is still here, all the records and the films and all that will still be around...we gave you fans the best we had for years and years and now it's time for a long rest and none of you would like to hear and see us at forty or something..."* ) __________ *How wrong he was and didn't know it!* __________ * 'The Monkees' will live-on long after all the original fans are gone, and that wouldn't be true unless there was real talent and chemistry involved between them, because although a camera may not 'tell the truth of things'...it doesn't 'lie' either* *WE know the difference between 'fake' and 'real' and what we saw and heard from the 'American Fab Four' was real even if it was never intended to be* __________ *I saw an interview with Nesmith here on 'Tube and he talked about Peter Tork and how Mike seemed to just 'always not quite right' and "Not the friend I should've been" with Peter in being 'not enemies but not close the way we should have been' and that when an assistant told him where he working said "I just heard that Peter has died" it felt "Like I was kicked in the guts and my heart stopped because I never got the the chance to tell him I loved him and didn't know it and now it's too late to even say goodbye to him* ( *Mike looked like he going to burst into tears right on camera and trying hard not to* ) __________ *I have a friend 'Leon' that I knew from Kindergarten all the way to 7th. grade and we were always 'pals' but what I didn't realize was how poor he was...I had no real concept of what it meant to not have any money in a pocket for a snack or matinee movies or a bag of candy* *My family was not 'rich' at all but there was always money for me to have for lunch at school and for 'after' and I always got 'movie money' at least twice a month and Leon had none of that and the 'little house' he and his mom lived-in would be considered 'cheap' and 'poor' even in the late '50's thru the '60's in Dearborn, Mi.* *How I wish I could see him now after more than fifty-years have passed, and tell him "I'm sorry for not being a better friend than I was but I just didn't know any better and now that I know it makes my heart hurt that I wasn't as good to you as you were to me and I'M SORRY* ( *We moved from Dearborn to Las Vegas in early '68 and I never even thought to say 'Goodbye' to him and get his address so I could write to him or maybe call sometimes* ) *WHAT AN A-HOLE I WAS TO HIM and I still don't understand 'Why?'*

そうだよ.ちょうど. Exactly. The Monkees were underestimated because they seemed to be a (fictional) creation for a TV series, and (fair enough) a ‘knock-off’ of the Beatles - and therefore artificial. Their output speaks - and sings - for itself, though. Underneath the admirably self-deprecating comedy presentation, the four were competent and talented musicians - just look at the coherence and concentration in this film, and how Jones ‘conducts’ and the others willingly follow his time. The result is crisp, with discipline and precision that, er, sometimes eluded the Beatles. And listen to Jones! Maybe it depends whom we ask: Paul McCartney is no slouch on vocals, but Jones’s voice puts him in the shade. Please forgive the AI translation! I翻訳ですのでご容赦ください!

***** They had manager didn't they? They obviously worked on their image. You know most people say the Beatles were simply not very good live. They were mostly a studio band. Not saying they didn't have some creative stuff going on. But live they didn't deliver. The Monkees were more talented performance wise.

+Meade Skelton you do know as the beatles grew they experientented more in the studio, making they're music more creative. a lot of those sounds are hard to create live. also it would be hard to judge how good the beatles sounds when thousands of girls are screaming at tops of they're lungs

Richard Lynch "Creative". Um okay. I don't think repeating "number 9 a thousand times over a bass guitar is very creative, but I guess that's just me. Performance art is creativity in of itself. The Monkees had it. Elvis had it. Its magic. The Beatles didn't have it.

Paul McCartney has written in his autobiography, "Many Years From Now", that it has became THE SONG of Linda and him in private, since they've heard it in the first time Procol Harum played it. They were going out together for the first time and went to a club in London where the musicians were presenting themselves. Since I've read this, when I hear this song I think about Paul and Linda.

Two years ago my wife went into hospital for a major operation. I dropped her off there, made sure she was checked into her ward and left as she was taken down into theatre. I got in my car, turned on the radio and as I drove away from the hospital this song came on. I broke down in tears and had to pull the car over. You see, her late Mum was called Jean and as youngsters they used to sing this to her "Cheer up sleepy Jean". To me this meant her Mum was watching over her and the worry drained away from me and I just knew for certain that she was going to be ok. Sure enough after a nine hour operation she pulled through and is now fine. I have always loved this song but even more so now. Daily I give my thanks to the wonderful surgical team, her Mum Jean and Davy Jones.

I am. I grew up listening to these guys. My sister had a Monkees collage on her bedroom wall, and their music rang off the walls of our home for years, along with the Smothers Brothers,, Wayne Newton, Johnny Mathis, Ed Ames and many others. It was a great time to be a kid.

That's because writing music has become a lost art. Computer programs do the writing now based on an algorithm of what people supposedly want. This is why there has not been a popular song with a key change since 2002. They no longer know how to write a proper melody and don't understand how to use key changes and time changes to enhance and color the mood(s) of a song. That is what's missing from modern music. It reminds me of the Bowie / Ronson collaboration. Bowie wrote the songs on guitar and brought a very crude and basic structure to Ronson who then molded that song into the tunes we know and love. Ronson created the arrangements, key changes and time shifts. That was all 100% Ronson.

Three, four, or five TV channels was the usual for most cities, and if you had a good antenna you could get most of them pretty clearly in the suburbs and even a ways out into the sticks. And they went off the air at midnight, and played a "test pattern" (look it up, some of them were pretty trippy) until 5 or 6 AM when they started broadcasting again. And all of that got broadcast not only to the planet Earth, but out into space. Some of it has already reached the nearest stars.

And to think Stewart (the composer) couldn't get anyone to record this song, and was pitched to the "We Five" and a couple other artists before The Monkees producer heard Stewart do it at a party and told him he'd like the Monkees to record it. It stayed there 4 four weeks, then bumped out of the number one spot by the Beatles "Hello Goodbye" Every time I hear the tune it brings tears to my eyes it's so beautiful. God Bless!

@@michaellorenzen8200 You make a great point. I bet there is a bit more , and more ugly reasons also. The teens and 21-25`s now are into nothing but digitized rep/hip hop and have no attention span because of the tach. you speak of. They react to these old tunes(check out reaction vids) and take rock lyrics literally , not understanding analogies or poetic license. If they hear "my baby blue", they think it means "oh, he`s talking about his new child with blue eyes", not a reference to a girlfriend he is singing about. Not the best example, but ya get my meaning.
