JJ tried his best in being a father figure to Michael with James now gone. JJ didn’t want Michael to be the young man he used to be in being in responsible and showing too much buffoonery. At this time JJ was maturing more and more.

J.J. Was Right In A Way,If He Was So Soft With Michael,Michael Could Of Ended Up Back In Jail Or Dead/Like Him And Penny Could Of Been In That Stolen Car With His Friend. Michael Was Getting Way Out Of Hand.
