@@satanlaffingthe point of the reaction videos is to get their reactions to something they’ve never seen or heard of before, they don’t know the history and probably don’t intend to, they’re here to react to the music, in the other Metallica videos they end up coming to understand the deeper meanings, but you don’t need to understand the meaning to enjoy the music, stop gatekeeping, stop telling them to do “homework” where they don’t need to cus as the end of the day, it’s not that big of a deal. And honestly bro, stop assuming that they only listen to rap cus they’re black 😂 Jesus Christ. You tell them that they need to stop getting the notion that metal is evil and satanic but jump around and say that all they do is listen to rap 😂 practice what you preach old man.

Metallica has 4 members on any given time. This was a historic event where the 4 biggest thrash metal bands played together on stage. This is an epic thing. NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) started around 1979 and lasted a few years, but spawned a number of talented bands, some of which went on to enjoy tremendous success, like Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, and Saxon. Some older English heavy metal bands even got lumped into the movement and adjusted their sound because of it, like Motorhead, Judas Priest, and Budgie. All ended up becoming a major influence on the early 80s thrash metal scene in California, and they enjoyed generous royalty checks from sales of Metallica's covers.

Diamond Head were part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, along with Iron Maiden. The NWOBHM started in the late 70s and fused the energy and make-your-own-scene attitudes of punk with classic hard rock. It’s impossible to underestimate how important Diamond ahead were to Metallica. Drummer Lars Ulrich followed Diamond Head around for a while just being a fan, and slept on their couch. Metallica has covered four out of seven songs from Diamond Head’s first album (one was never released except on bootlegs). I suggested in another Metallica reaction you should try their cover of Diamond Head’s “Helpless”.

Some brief history of Metallica. They’ve had 8 total members in history. 9 if you include producer Bob Rock who filled in on Bass when they recorded St Anger as they made that album after Jason Newsted left the band but before they got a new bass player (their current bassist Rob Trujillo). They’ve only ever changed bassists besides removing Dave Mustaine and replacing him with Kirk before they even recorded their debut album. The original members were James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Dave Mustaine, and Ron McGovney. They replaced bassist Ron McGovney in December of 1982 with Cliff Burton. Then in April of 1983 they replaced Dave with Kirk. Then they stayed that way until Cliff’s death in 1986. Metallica auditioned over 50 bassists to replace Cliff and Jason Newsted was actually last in line originally. However he impressed them especially by hearing about the position and taking time to learn every single song of their set list for their upcoming opening for OZZY. They invited him back and gave him the job. So Metallica now had James, Lars, Kirk, and Jason for awhile. Jason was treated pretty badly by the guys especially by James and Lars because they couldn’t handle their grief of losing Cliff. They drank more and took it out on Jason as they saw him as never being able to fill Cliff’s shoes. It eventually led to Jason leaving the band in 2001 to pursue a solo career for a little while because James wasn’t letting him do solo stuff while he was in Metallica so that combined with the mistreatment and not feeling like he was really part of the band, he left. Metallica then fell into a dark place. While they worked on themselves and James checked into rehab to fix his alcoholism. When he came back they wanted to make an album where they just got all of their demons out and anger out, so they started making St Anger. Now they didn’t have a bassist and they didn’t feel like it was the right time to audition one and bring them in while they were still kinda assholes and working on themselves because they didn’t want to bring a new guy into the toxic environment that forced Jason out. So their producer at the time Bob Rock, filled in on bass for the album. Then, in 2003 when they finally felt like they had matured more and fixed themselves a bit and were ready to treat a new guy properly, they auditioned bassists again, this time selecting Rob Trujillo as the bassist. Who is still their bassist to this day. And despite being still known as the new guy in metallica, he’s actually been their longest active bass player in the band. 2003-2022 19 years about to be 20. Jason was in the band from 1986-2001 (15 years) Cliff from 1982-1986 (4 years) and Ron from 1981-1982 (1 year). So technically, Rob has been Metallica’s bassist as long as all of their other bassists combined. Sorta. Next year he’ll be tied 20 years to (15+4+1=20). But the reason he’s not thought of when you think of Metallica’s bassist, is because those 20 years he’s been in, they’ve only made 2 studio albums. And they weren’t anything like their old stuff whereas Jason was there during their real blow up with the black album, and Cliff was there in the beginning for the first 3 albums which are still considered their best. Their first 5 albums are considered their best and you had Cliff for the first 3 and Jason for the next 2. Jason was there for the 2 after the black album as well but load and reload were vastly different and aren’t held in the same light. Then as I said they used their producer for bass on St Anger, then Rob came in and did bass on their last 2. Death Magnetic (2008) and Hardwired to Self Destruct (2016). Word is they’ve been in the studio the last couple years working on a new album but they haven’t been in the studio full time so the album is taking a lot longer. But we’re expecting it within the next 2 years either 2023 or 2024. If we follow their recent cycle, it seems to be 8 years between albums (2008, 2016) so I’m leaning more towards 2024 which would be 8 years again. And if that’s the case, I’d be almost expecting it to possibly be the last full studio album Metallica may ever make. I mean they’ll all be in their 60’s in 2024. Granted only just, but that’s pretty old to still be trying to tour constantly and put on the high energy shows they do and play the old stuff still that’s fast and heavy and to then still try and make new music again after that. I could maybe see them doing 1 more album after their next one but i don’t know about any more after that. Feel like they’ll start getting to the age where their bodies just won’t be able to take it anymore. And if James’ voice goes or his guitar playing goes, 100% that will be the end of Metallica. No one wants a Metallica without James. He’s been the lead singer for all 41 years. All 10 full studio albums, soon to be 11. And has layed down every guitar track on the album aside from the solo’s which Kirk does. He’s their frontman. People like to say Metallica is Lars and James. And that’s kinda true. They formed it initially. And they’re the 2 that basically write all the songs. Sure Kirk and Rob sometimes contribute some stuff, but it’s mostly all James for the guitar stuff, and Lars works with the producers and sound engineers as basically a sound engineer himself and he’s kinda the one who pieces everything together how he wants it to sound, James has some input on that too but it’s really mostly Lars. So while if Lars was unable to play at some point, in terms of actually laying down drums on a track or performing live, Metallica could live on pretty fine with a replacement drummer, Lars’ song writing and producing skills would be gone unless he stayed on as just doing that and they just had another drummer actually doing the drumming. So their album songs wouldn’t really be the same without Lars. Though James could take over and keep it going pretty well. But without James, I just don’t see Metallica continuing. I don’t think the fans would even want them to. And tbh I don’t think the band would want to either. His sound is really what makes Metallica Metallica.

You guys really should re-visit the Metallica - One song. Your understanding of the metal music has grown so much these last six month. So I think that you guys might appreciate the song and the lyrics a little bit more that you did with the first video. The story behind that song is something else.

Their live shit is epic! NO band like em. This is one of my all time fav Metallica songs (yes I know it's a remake - but their version is better). No there's not hella members of Metallica. Theres 4. Those other guys are part of other bands: Megadeth, Anthrax, and Slayer. It was a concert that had all four bands, and Metallica brought them all out on stage for that number

Nice. You can tell who sounds good live and who is kinda rough. Still love the guitar riffs and drums. And these 4 bands are great. Side note you should react to Anthrax featuring public enemy “Bring the Noise”

They are not all in Metallica. There are three other bands on stage: Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax. Together with Metallica, they form The Big 4 of thrash metal.

'The Big 4' tour was: Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax each performing a set. Basically the biggest bands in metal from the 80's.

There are only 4 members in Metallica. The others you see listed online are former members. The other people on the stage in this video are members of other bands: Anthrax, Megadeth, and Slayer. These 4 bands make up what we call the Big Four of Thrash Metal.
