Yea it’s why George loved being in the edit room. Editing a movie is so important to how it turns out. A new hope is what it is strictly because of the editing and what it turned out to be.

Theory needs to see the ending and how he handles Reva’s arc. The Kai Edit was so sick in my opinion and little additions of prequel dialogue that he adds was so essential to the final fight scene and kenobi’s critical moments. A much better movie than the show we got.

Edit was miles and above better. I agree, Theory, that the music felt heavy handed, and I thought the apparition of Anakin in the desert was much more eerie and effective in the original without needing the Ep III flash shoved in our faces. Beyond that, the cut makes Reva far more menacing and sympathetic as a character, and goes far in ditching some of the jarring silliness of the series.

The edit is brilliant and I declare that henceforth it shall be known as: Kenobi: A Star Wars Story.

I'm with SWT on the music. Remember: Lucas kept making clear Filoni COULD NOT start to use the classic Force theme with Clone Wars UNTIL a specific special moment. It had to mean something when people FINALLY heard it. It couldn't just be used over and over and over.

The first thing I heard Jon Favreau say about the show was bad editing and he mentions how he would have taken the show in a different direction without saying anything bad about Deborah Chow. During the interview he re-iterated editing about 2 more times. Thanks for mentioning how Marsha saved The New Hope with her editing and glad she won an Oscar for it.

I was surprised when Theory said he still hadn't even watched half the edit. The "Kai Patterson cut" saves the whole series (if we now forget the Disney version). Hopefully he's seen it by now to give a full opinion on the next Nerd Theory.

Pentex edit is worth a watch. Dude goes beyond shortening, he really restructures it.

I will admit to loving the Patterson re-edit. It was a taut, dramatic show, much more suspenseful than the original. I watched the full 6 episodes ,boring parts and all. Kai's video made me enjoy the whole Star Wars saga again.

I watched the fan edit of Kenobi after I heard you guys talk about it. OK... I really liked the Kenobi series mostly because of McGregor's acting (Reva was a good character but had too much screen time) and I LOVED this fan edit. If Disney was smart, they would allow George Lucas to edit/reshoot his own Kenobi movie version (similar to Snider/Donner). Full disclosure: original Star Wars fan pre-Special Editions is my favorite. I liked prequals & loved RoTS, really enjoyed Clone Wars movie/series & loved the bonus lesson, reluctantly watched Rebels but ended loving the parts with Asoka/Vader, loved Bad Batch & Mando I/II, I liked Boba and Rogue One (Vader!), enjoyed Boba Fett for what it was, and lukewarm (pun) on the sequels (especially after TLJ & the hot mess of TRoS). I am really looking forward to Asoka & Bad Batch II.

It was a great edit, but I only have 2 complaints. He cut out pieces of the Reva/Vader fight, which was one of the best parts of the show with the Vader action. Also, he should have left in the scene where Leia was talking to her cousin. Not that it was a great scene, but Bail Organa references apologizing to her cousin. And at the end when Obi-Wan arrives back in Alderan, Leia asks "who is this, more cousins?" (Paraphrasing). Without the scene with her cousin those lines don't make sense or have context. But overall it definitely flows better in Kai's edit. Exceptional work. My main takeaway is that Kenobi woulda been better served as a long single movie instead of a show. Sidenote...I agree with Theory about the music score point as well.

I just watched the Kenobi Re-edit and 'WOW' it felt like a much improved show!! I actually enjoyed it!! I didn't need all the fluff of the 6 episode show we got in season 1. So much improved! If you can, check it out!!

its cut together really weirdly. he cut the scene with Leia's cousins saying she isn't an Organa which she brings up in the scene with Bail and with it cutout its just completely out of no where. Leia's introduction is also bad. We just see her in a tree. The scene with the girl standing in her place was really good cause it shows how smart she is to get out of things like this

The fan edit is much better than the series and it fixed many of the show's problems. Watch all of it SWT.

I actually got emotional during the final battle, can’t say that for the original. 4.5/5 for the movie compared to a 3/5 for the show.

I watched it. Ok. But too much was cut for me. I loved the series and don't personally need to see it in a movie form. The thing I like about series is that they can take time to go more into characters and relationships. There are some editing problems but I still want all the story that the series gave us. And I want to stay appreciative about what they gave us in this series. Fan edits are a form of love, I guess. I hope it's love and I hope all the excited response to this fan edit is also love. Hard to tell.

Theory you totally nailed it on the music. The original cues are too much, the new music they made for the series is fine.

the Kai Patterson cut was incredible. I enjoyed the show, but this. This was perfect. my only minor knit pick was the the editing in the final fight. I found it to be a little choppy with some awkward transitions between songs and scenes. Otherwise the rest of the edit was perfect. this is what I mean when I say Obi-Wan was a success, because the FILM was almost perfect.

Edit was way better than the show, theory definitely has some points tho on it being forced but with what Kia had it was way better.

I heard Williams put a veto on the music, he didn't allow them to use his previous themes until the finale.

The guest was energetic and interesting. The host almost seemed like they were bothered/bored to be there.

Every time I come across some of these fandom channels I'm reminded of George Lucas saying "There's always going to be a group of fans that don't like comic sidekicks, they want the films to be tough, like terminator, and they get very upset and very opinionated about anything to do with anything that's childlike, which the movies are for children but they don't want to admit that"

I don't know about the edit overall since I can't find it to watch it, but the added voice of Qui Gon in the final duel adds nothing and doesn't really make sense considering Ob-Wan literally just got saying Anakin was dead. That relates into the point of forced nostalgia with the music and trying to fix things that didn't need fixing.

By no means is this edit perfect, but gosh, it made me take a show that dragged with slow pacing that I wanted to turn off, to a movie that was genuinely better, more enjoyable and a lot easier to watch

People whine about what Lucas with the prequel, but the problem with the prequels was the editing and the filling of things un important like the taxes in episode 1 which should have had the moment his mother died instead of qui gon which he didn't know that well.

It's people like this who think they know what's better than the people who are actually making the show smh

So without extremely over hyping it like it was in video, The Kai edit was really really good. It has nothing to do with who's a bigger fan or Hollywood being this or that. It's about passion. I'll only spoil that Reva is much more of an Inquisitor. Much more like Trilla. There is a darkness in her. There is a tragedy with her story. I 100 percent disagree with Theory on the music choice. It was perfectly done. Especially in the final fight. He didn't miss a beat There. Some scenes are cut and re edited to remove pointless dialog, Obi-Wan is much more truer to himself, There were some scenes that were kept that could have been easily edited over (Wade) But all in all, THIS was a good edit.

How can you review on something you haven't completely watched?

I still think the Vader and Palpatine transmission scene is out of place. Shouldn’t have been the scene immediately after Kenobi defeats Vader and flies off. It just pays tribute to the Disney fast travel imo

The beginning is worse. Music too heavy handed throughout. Why didnt they use wipes to smooth out the jarring cuts from scene to scene?. Good idea but loses too many good bits. Doesnt need that much trimmed off.

It’s frustrating to see y’all just never satisfied with Star Wars anymore. Like I get it, I hated the sequels but everything else has been fun, not perfect but much better than the prequels. Get into it and have fun! Stop hating everything just because it’s not exactly what you imagined in your mind for years before it launched

he also used WAY to much og music. all of the music we know comes at that end and its supposed to be a transition for the characters. Leia's theme plays while Obi is talking to her and then when he leaves the Force theme plays signifying the "Return Of The Jedi's"

The edit does a good job of trying to cut the fat from this bloated series. There are some points where you can tell the editor has done his best to match the scene, but not had the material to make the shifts seamless. But more than this, watching this as a movie condenses the emotional punch and you realise very strongly, this was meant to be Lukes adventure, but he was cut in favour of Leia… Lovely to see Ewan and Hayden back… but damn KK for spitting in the eye of young boys who used to look to Star Wars for its role models.
