@@robopecha There's probably a lot of pushing children too hard (physically and mentally) in a lot of fields. Ballet, gymnastics, probably also classical music... any field where the general expectation is to start young and focus on it from a young age. I'd argue it doesn't make the whole art/sport bad, but that there should be a focus on treating children (and often adults too) better.

Like, yeah, it's kind of funny and relateable to see some bad luck happen or utter dorkiness (the barre just nopeing off the wall or the 10 pairs of shoes girl), but the girl being forcibly stretched and crying and the destroyed shoe at the end were terrifying.

I understood the reference at 1:25! Artistic and rhythmic gymnasts will also keep going no matter what (unless they literally cannot continue). Also many kinds of athletes in sports, which are not considered artistic, do this. Many people consider showing pain to be a sign of weakness. Military and first responders regularly persevere under extreme and life-threatening conditions. My whole-hearted respect to everybody who can maintain this kind of iron self-discipline in the most testing circumstances! Thanks for the video! 🙏

I was a synchronized swimmer for over 10 years and about half was spent in professional competitions until my team and I eventually got selected for the national team. That little girl doing the splits with the coach on her thigh? That was our life, about 4 days a week, between 15-25 hours a week when I was around 6-10 until our bodies were moulded perfectly and we could do every movement in our sleep, effortlessly, including the splits of course. I know it looks extreme but we all signed up for this when we went into the pro team instead of the "gala" team (which mainly does performances, so more for fun and not aiming at becoming pro athletes). My coach would sit on our shoulders as we were doing the splits to make sure we touched the ground, and eventually we would do it with our teammates. One teammate would be on the ground while the other would be putting pressure or sitting to help the other reach whatever they were trying to reach at the time. We actually had to take ballet classes about 2 hours per week as well as 3 hours of lifting weights and building muscles in a gym for athletes, because synchronized swimming is one of the most complex sports that exists in how it combines several other sports and expects you to be a professional at all of them. I loved my life as a swimmer, I was turning pro and getting sponsors and everything when my team and I were around 16, then I got injured very bad and from then, I had to slowly dicrease my practice until eventually I had to quit, right when my professional career was starting. That's why I watch ballet content now, cause no one makes synchronised swimming content lmao and it's the closest thing I could find.

I also learnt to strech that way, when I was a kid. But that was at the end of the class, we were all warmed up, we only took one/2 classes per week, and our teacher wouldn't allow to go too far, like we've seen on that video. When I was an adult, I learn to strech proprely at one class at my gym club. Synchronized swimming is so beautiful to watch. I'm sorry to read about how your career ended. Wish you the best.

I'm a little confused how you can say "but we all signed up for this" when you were 6-10? I'm really glad that it seems you look back at that training without any trauma or injury that you specifically attribute to it, but it is really a terrible way to train and no child should ever be subject to it (especially to the level we saw in this video)
