I know this is months later, but I think you guys are being very small minded. There are various reasons why people become the way they are. Some people are just like that. Some are not considered normal and people don't hang out with them, so they either lack social skills and awareness, or they cling to the first person that shows them a considerable amount of attention. Then there are people who just have trauma and that affects the way they interact with others. It doesn't have to necessarily be someone's mom. Also, the way the mother talked about Mike didn't seem narcissistic. She even questioned the girl as to why she needs anyone else because her son is a very great person.
