This is great info! A lot of thought should be applied to taking the steps of opening your own shop and getting info from those who have done it and are successful is immensely helpful. Would be great to learn about the tools you have in your shop, i.e: polishers, vacuums, extractors, steam cleaners, your bay setups etc. Great video guys!

I own a custom detail shop and can't stress enough about having insurance. One day one of my guys was backing out a truck, he noticed the side gate was open and in his way. He jumped out of the truck without first putting it in park, well the truck went backwards causing $3000.00 worth of damage. I called my insurance company and had my customer in a rental in under this hours.

I am in the process of figuring out a mobile detail business. Looking at my goals I have decided to just go with Optimum products and techniques. I have no desire to do the work it takes to do show cars and I am not going to chase $25 washes. I am aiming at the fat middle of super clean and protected daily drivers with the occasional two-step enhancement aimed at improvment, not perfection.

PLEASE HELP: I own a car detailing business, we do only dealership cars and very few customer cars. We work in our own shop and pay rent. We do about 10-20 cars a day depends on if our employees feel like “showing up” to work that day. We need cheaper chemicals or cheaper labor. If you have any suggestions or other ways we can be more profitable it would be much appreciated. Thanks! We’ve been in business for 30+ years. We just aren't making nearly as much as we used to and some months are not profitable.

So, I'm having difficulty finding the DETALKS segment where you discuss onboarding employees into the detail business. Also, contrary to apparently what "a lot" of people think - "Employees can never do as good as me", I think quite the opposite, I know if i show them the tricks and how to do everything, I'm actually more scared their going to run off and start their own and become a competitor, it's not like detailing is a huge barrier to get into compared to other professions. What is your thoughts on that?

I see what you asking me. I'm just going to go with my size, conditions, clay, and go from there to keep it simple. but here where I live you have some places that charge 20 dollars for a car wash but I don't and tell them I'm not a car wash. because I don't want to be confused with that. my wash is done properly and they don't understand that you can't wash a vehicle with 1 towel, and then you have proper drying as well.

question guys? I charge a different prices just for a wash reason being is there are different ways to wash. you guys already know the differences. my question is do you see anything wrong with charging different prices. because I look at the method and materials and we all know when you look at this in the end is different results. so what do you guys think? Richard Hinton we charge different prices for different washes. For example. If a customer request a traditional soap and water 2 bucket wash, we charge $50. If they want a ONRWW wash we charge $75, if they want ONR and OptiSeal we charge $100 bucks, if they want ONR wash, Clay, and OCWax then we charge $125 This way your adding a value to your services. If you can do the final one in under 30 mins that's even better! We find in the shop that we are faster with ONR washes over traditional 2 bucket soap washes. Cars look better and are better protected!!

Not all work is good work. Why take a job where you will lose money? Why take a job where the odds of the customer not being happy is high? You get the business you serve.
