It´s partially his fault for not keeping an eye on the finances. I don't believe that is what he is saying. You can't have a relationship without a vision and you both working together on it. If you both are doing your own thing, and one person is handling the finances while the other is out of the loop that is absolutely his fault for choosing to not being in the loop. He left her to something that should be a shared responsibility since it is directly tied to a vision they should both share. This is a form of neglect on a marriage as well as living life individually without that shared vision. Which by the way, always leads to divorce.

It's not like a bank account where you can setup alerts through a joint account. She deliberately had this in secret, there's not much the man could have done at that point. Going forward he needs to be more deliberate with his wife though, having them both involved in the financial planning helps.

It isn't possible that the woman is just a spender and it's not a coping mechanism...?
@BlueDauntless
@BlueDauntless Ай бұрын
It’s possible. But Jade picked up on their just having had a baby. So that could be she’s suffering from postpartum depression. And that needs to be addressed, not with spending. And what she did was wrong. But people do all kinds of bad things to cope. Dave picked up that his wife couldn’t come to him and there’s a breakdown of communication. The husband didn’t notice that much spending happening, he probably didn’t notice much else. They both off doing their own thing. They aren’t joined. They need to work together.

Exactly. She’s not off the hook. But to get the spending to stop, they have to know the root of it. Especially if she wasn’t like that before. It sounds like postpartum depression. You’re gonna owe full income taxes on that $36k, so once you pay that it basically knocks out the debt. I’d do that from a purely money perspective, but that isn’t the problem, the problem is her spending. And it is HER spending, not because he went to the casino once and his a slot jackpot. That’s classic Dave BS. Just paying it off won’t fix the problem. Maybe the solution is she loses the cards and he takes control of all finances. Maybe it means something else. But they need that resolution before he just pays.
