Therapist uses the lyrics of Solway Firth by Slipknot to discuss what happens when we vulnerably share our pain and it is met with disbelief and rejection. This often causes external and internal conflict that prevents the root pain from being acknowledged and attended to. Instead, we try to blame, defend, and deflect the other person's perspective, and our initial pain gets lost in the conflict. This song calls us to always come back to the root of the matter and tend to our pain.

Definitely a throw back to the numetal Slipknot era with the anger and pain reflected from the 90s of those of us feeling disenfranchised with the state of society during that period, remember it all too well

From AliceBlue: @eyespyyourspy1328 I think it’s very brave and admirable to open up and put a voice to feeling like you’ve been having to put on a fake smile. I know that in life I have had to put on a smile for show, so I can empathise with how hard you are fighting. It feels at times like if you break then everything will crumble down around you. I hope that you find the space and the people who you can have a break from having to put the aires on for and feel authentically how you need to feel.

I want you to know that I hear you and am happy you reached out. Holding on to the little things in life that make you happy or feel good is so important. Saying how you feel is the first step, so I am so glad you are here! I hope you come across a new hobby, friend, or even a show that makes you laugh. Thank you all for real. Life is a very difficult road for many of us. I try to find moments and people I can confide in when things are overwhelming. However I've noticed the people who once were of qualities that were trustworthy have evolved into people who are easily triggered, find ways to make things about them, and have traded Empathy for Apathy. I have been in isolation since my circle of friends at the time exposed their true intentions and intentionally sabotaged my relationships with many people. I was always able to get along with just about everyone. When certain people find out you don't beef with people they beef with it tends to be a rough explanation of neutrality and loyalty. I just found this channel earlier today. Anyone who reacts to Slipknot gets a listen few get a sub. The sub was our hosts ability to explain things on the psychological level. I find that fascinating. I have always wanted to Crack into my own psychology and figure out why I am the way I am.

I've been very depressed and broken. Suicidal thoughts, solitude, and general detachment from my life. Slipknot has always filled that emptiness in myself when I go through my lows and have always cherished there music. Seeing what Taylor is doing, seeing what this channel is doing to promote betterness. I am so grateful. If I can make a recommendation I'd say react to " A Greater Foundation" by As I Lay Dying. This song came out in the middle of me and my ex wifes divorce.. the song i thought what caused it to end but looking back this song was my escape. I came forth with an issue that happened to me as a child and she didnt beleive me. She coukdnt understand why certain tasks were difficult for me to do for our new born. It made me feel discusting and always brought back the sick twisted shit that was exsposed to me at a young age. And i woukd start having little anxiety issues when it came to my son. She woukdnt be there for wasnt there for and i had to not only figure out how to get theough it for myself, but now take care of my infant.. this song actually the entire album was my feelings wrapped up in one record. Corey taylor, i love you bro. Uve set me free in ways i cant explain. But if i had, im sure youd be the only one who undertood. ❤

I've dealt with depression for a long time like a bodily illness it comes and goes. Sometimes harder than others, but recently it's been the worse. I lost my father last summer and I've been through the stages of grief repeatedly and have been having health issues myself. And I bury it at times with alcohol and drug abuse. I also am a musician and before music was my outlet to get out of my pain and frustration but lately its harder to connect to that creativity. The greatest thing is I do have people who love me and support me but they wont ever feel what I feel and that's not their fault. This pain is something that I have to fight internally by being better to myself externally. Never give up the chance to be happy and healthy. That's what living is for. Thank you for this video.

From djstarion: @robharley7539 VERY well said! And I totally get where you're coming from too. I'm also a musician, and when you use it as an outlet, those emotions can get bottled up when you dont have the motivation or drive to get those out. One thing that I always did when I got in those moods was to just jot stuff down in a notebook. Anything I felt, whether it be words, pictures, random thoughts, just getting it down helps. I'm so happy you have a support system too. <3

From AliceBlue: @robharley7539 “I have to fight internally by being better to myself externally”. This will sit with me for a long time. Through your pain and hurt, through your creative block, you have pushed to not only be kind to yourself, but have set a reminder and example to others who are hurting and struggling that this is possible. Betterment of self isn’t an easy path. Sometimes the things that shape us are just so inflamed with all the pain and sorrow and grief. Those who are closest to us may not know how it feels, but there’s a solidarity in knowing we never truely walk alone. Thank you for sharing your hurt and grief with us and thank you for sharing your bravery and resilience with us.
@HeartSupport
@HeartSupport 5 ай бұрын
From EvilGenius: @robharley7539 Hi Friend, First of all, I want you to know that I do notice you, and your strength in sharing your journey is visible for all to see. Dealing with any form of mental health, whilst battling through the loss of a loved one so close to you, is tough. This challenge may often feel like an uphill battle, defined to fail, but keep pushing through, because healing is the prize. However, I do know that navigating through the stages of grief can feel like an endless cycle of heartache. It’s understandable that you’ve turned to alcohol and drugs as a means of coping, but I want to remind you that there are healthier ways to confront your pain. Seeking solace in your music is a beautiful outlet, although I understand that lately, even that has become a struggle. Please know that it’s okay to feel disconnected from your creativity at times; it doesn’t diminish your talent or passion. Every musician will have times where their passion runs thin, and they will end up questioning their ability. That’s okay, but what matters is that you never give up. You’re absolutely right that the love and support of others, while invaluable, can never fully alleviate the depth of your pain. However, their presence in your life is a beacon of hope, a reminder that you are not alone in this fight. And while the journey toward healing may seem daunting, remember that every small step you take toward being kinder to yourself is a victory worth celebrating. Your resilience shines through your words, and I believe in your ability to find light amidst the darkness. Keep holding onto the belief that happiness and health are within your reach, even on the darkest of days. You are deserving of love, healing, and peace, and I’m rooting for you every step of the way. **With enormous love EvilGenius**

My favorite , not just Slipknot, but song overall in many, many years. My interperertation of this song fits and is so relatable to myself.

The first time I heard this song, it was like I wrote it. Unbelievably relatable. I had a similar situation, and that was the last time I ever opened up about my depression. "You want a real smile, I havent smiled in years"

This is how I’ve felt for nearly three years since I started having seizures. The two people I’ve been the closest with in my life and who have been my entire support system for nearly 20 years both got too busy to even text me back any more. In November I had another seizure and woke up on the floor of the bathroom at my work, laying in a pool of blood with a cracked skull. These two people I relied on for nearly half my life never even have a fuck that I cracked my skull. I could be dead right now and neither of them would know. I feel like I stared at my phone for three years waiting for one of them to just ask how the hell I’ve been doing. It’s been nearly three years and I’m just now cutting them out and alleviating the pressure, and I’m just now starting to feel like myself again.

Been a Slipknot fan my entire life. To me this album is their best. I think lyrically and musically they hit their peak and it all came together in a beautiful storm.

I've been dealing with depression for most of my life, and I've tried to end my life over stupid reasons, but everything changed when I got introduced to slipknot and the metal genre in general, music became my safe space and all emotion and the things they say hit so hard

I’ve liked some of their songs through their entire career but never considered myself a “Slipknot fan” cause I’ve never gotten any of their albums. This song is so powerful and emotional and is probably my favourite song of theirs so far.

Great reaction! But I'd really love if you reacted to "Finale". It's such an underappreciated gem in their discography that I think more people should hear, because of all kinds of reasons. Not to mention that the main theme would definitely fit the theme of your channel and would help A LOT of people. So please! Love and hugs from Hungary for everyone who needs it! ❤

Never been to therapy, never will unless I must. She knows what she’s talking about but saying enough is enough and just being successful who don’t even try to understand when you open up is the therapy I need. Do not let any person overlook you because that is the reason they don’t believe or in my case which is worse, care. Don’t become an evil person, just be that person who doesn’t connect to anyone who absolutely deserve it. Listening to Slipknot made me feel I am not all alone feeling this way and that has been really helpful with my anger management. Metal on!

As someone who grew up with Slipknot and has tried being vulnerable about my depression to various doctors, only to be met with doubt and a lack of empathy. I agree with how you interpret the song. I would add however, when we try being vulnerable to the wrong people and get angry. Its a gift in disguise. Humanity is mostly self centered. You can't show weakness to people. They dont care and they'll abuse you for it anyway they can. Much like this song explains. You become corrupt by rage and either implode or explode if you look for validation. Best to accept your cross is yours to bear. Any external assistance will make it worst.

I've definitely had to work through close friends not being available, many for understandable reasons, during tough life events. Learning who you have to lean on, who you can return to being vulnerable or how to deal with the pain of rejection or a sense of abandonment in a darker time.
