00:00 Hello Everyone!
Norway Chess is a 10-player round-robin featuring Top 5 stars Magnus Carlsen, Alireza Firouzja and Hikaru Nakamura taking place in Stavanger, Norway from 30 May to 9 June. Each of the 9 rounds consists of a classical game where a win is worth 2 points and a loss 0. If the players draw they play an Armageddon game, where the winner earns 1.5 points and the loser 1 point. No draw offers are allowed before move 30.
The 3+2 blitz opener takes place on Monday 29th and will give the winners the chance to pick their pairing numbers for the main event. The classical time control is 2 hours for all moves, with a 10-second increment per move only after move 40. For Armageddon White (the same player who had White in the classical game) has 10 minutes to Black's 7, with a 1-second increment from move 41. Black wins if the game ends in a draw. A tie for 1st place will be decided by two 3+2 blitz games followed, if necessary, by a 5 vs. 4-minute Armageddon game. Official website: norwaychess.no

Well you also have to take into consideration that Hikaru is one of the strongest players of all time. If Magnus were never born Hikaru would have dominated this game in at least 2 time formats for a century already - probably more due to how Hikaru's kryptonite was always Magnus no matter the format.

In my humble opinion Fabi was caught off guard from the beginning. It's very rare to outplay Fabi in the opening but Hikaru managed to do it. He was expecting d3 and not Kg5 on the fourth. I I remember well Hikaru played this only against Ding at Candidates' Tournament. Let's wait for next episode of C-Squared Podcast . Surely Fabi will give us an answer.

I want to ask Karjakin what he thinks of this result. Since he open his mouth, blinded by nationalistic pride, Esipenko fell to #58 and Nakamura skyrocket to #2 with a bunch of wins and fantastic results all over the world. And talking about nationalistic pride and dangerous behavior, Russia invaded Ukraine, placing the world on the verge of a nuclear holocaust. Albert Einstein: "Nationalism is an infantile disease. I remember, back when I was first learning about the two knights defense, I checked with the engine to see what it thought the best responses would be as white and that day it said Bd3. I liked the move for covering the e4 square and from then on used it constantly. First several games I played the line in, my opponent was caught off guard and after blitzing out theory they had to spend a minute figuring out how to respond, in 10 minute rapid. Nowadays I almost never get that same surprise value out of the line and a number of my opponents have better prep in the line than I do, but I have a really solid score in the opening either way.

Hey Agad, I need some help. It might not be enough to go on, but you once covered a game in which there was a queen vs two rook and pawn endgame. The two rooks escorted the pawn up the board very slowly as the queen tried to slow the king down with a barrage of checks. It was very instructive. Can you remember what game it was?

GM Niclas Huschenbeth had suggested the fried liver attack to Hikaru and prepare it as a way to avoid the Berlin defense of a „normal“ Italian game. The preparation end with f5, as this is a mistake…Niclas explain in great detail the moves he recommended in his youTube video on the game. Really worth watching, if you don‘t mind it is in German.

How do you know that the knight would take 4 moves to get to the rook at around 11:30? Is there some sort of chess principle that you can use to easily figure this out or is Agadmator really just him?
@michaelsaili1384
@michaelsaili1384 11 ай бұрын
The 'principle' if you will, is that when a Knight and another piece are separated only by one square along a diagonal, It will take at least four moves by the Knight to capture the piece.

Hey Agad, I need some help. It might to be enough to go on, but you once covered a game in which there was a queen vs two rook and pawn endgame. The two rooks escorted the pawn up the board very slowly as the queen tried to slow the king down with a barrage of checks. It was very instructive. Can you remember what game it was?

Fabi should have taken that knight and doubled his pawns, for that was the only decent move to counter his heavy pawn disadvantage. Then he should have moved his King out. Hikaru played that wild opening, and Fabi apparently was unprepared for it.

Amazing convert by Hikaru, yes, the computer is telling that he is winning, but you have Fabiano Caruana on the other side of the board and you need to run the show with precision, you allow Fabiano a little breath of fresh air and he will be breathing fire on you in no time. Frankly, the last 3 years have been one of the greatest backslashes ever for Karjakin and his wife Galia. Esipenko is still a great play. (58#) but men.

Lol these guys are entertainers and friends, it's not that serious for them... it's like saying Seinfeld must be mad at George or Kramer for always being in his apartment. They play so many games against each other and win or lose they have a good time especially behind the scenes. Hikaru said it best himself about Fabi "we're not rivals we are just competitors".

@@oboyoh3960 Only Hikaru is a entertainer since he is a streamer. They are good friends but if you follow Caruana, you know he is very serious and competitive when it comes to classical chess, dude was called human machine at some point. The point is that Caruana spends 10x time more in classical training compared to Hikaru so this loss and the tournament frustrated him badly inside.

@@oboyoh3960 im sure playing the WCC over and over again gets tiring and boring. No other sport is the reigning champion given so much privilege. NBA, Tennis, Gridiron Football, Futbol -- they all need to compete to be in the final. Only other sport I can think of is MMA and Boxing but even then title defenses can occur multiple times in a few years and the actual fight only happens within a day. The WCC is a month long of madness and I'm sure Magnus doesn't find it as fun
