Happy Monday guys! GM seems to have really stepped it up for this next-generation Envision. It's still not perfect, but we were pleasantly surprised by the overall package of the car. Once Buick makes a few more safety and tech features as standard, it will be near the top of the segment. Do you think this new model will continue to help Buick draw in a younger audience into showrooms?

Yes they did pretty well with the new one. My mom test drove two 2019 models two years ago. A Premium II with the 2. Turbo engine engine. When we lived in IL. And then a week after we moved to SC she test drove a Essence with the base 2.5 engine. She liked the first one but did not the second one. So she ended up with a white 2020 Subaru Outback XT Onyx edition. That she got on September 13th of 2019. But the one thing that that I love about the new model is they made the Turbo engine standard.

It's a question of the pricing. Assuming they can make an Essence without messaging seats but with adaptive cruise control and still sell it for under $40k it may sell well. Otherwise there are more compelling models to chose from.

I just bought one in July, 2021. I got the black on black -- i.e., the ST package with black rims and black exterior. I simply love it. It has plenty of pep for a crossover. It's lovely looking, drives smoothly and is unique on the road, especially with the ST package. It's quite comfortable inside, love the 10 in touchscreen if you get a higher package or convenience package -- big, clear, bright w/easy to use big buttons. As a 35-year-old, they appealed to me. Can't recommend it enough so far. This was my first crossover (having last had a Kia Stinger and VW GLI). Sure, it's not a sports car, but if you want functional, classy and still a bit fun, it's a great buy.

I go back and forth on the Lincoln. On the one hand, it's beautiful car, but it's also a Ford, the lowest of the low when it comes to domestic cars. It's also more expensive than the Buick, which is also a nice car. My biggest frustration is that we're letting Zoomers control the market and that means all we have are trucks, SUVs and sports cars. No sedans. As a disabled person with chronic pain, cushy sedans have always been my thing. My first car was a 1990 Chrysler Fifth Avenue. Obviously, nothing is going to beat the New Yorker 5th Ave's velour seats, but for leather, this is pretty impressive. The fact that non-sporty luxury vehicles cost less than a trip to the chiropractor works for me. I just wish Buick still made sedans.

We bought this car last week, and the selling point for us was the interior design (a very subjective category) and overall quality. The two-tone interior with tan makes a much better impression of luxury. This feels like a very substantial vehicle for the price, and so far, I've found zero mechanical or cosmetic flaws. Build quality is top-notch, for those of you concerned about it being assembled in China. And speaking of which, my understanding is that the engine and transmission are American built. With this brand so much more popular in China, it would be a bad business decision for GM to NOT to have some manufacturing over there. One correction for the record, our Essence trim model does have ambient lighting!

My mom just bought an Envision Preferred ST and I think it is a great vehicle. Especially for the price. We were lucky enough to find a very small dealer who was willing to do a GMS deal do it was only about $32k and she took advantage of the 0.0% for 36 months instead of paying cash. The interior is very modern and filled with features even though it has cloth seats. The 2.0 turbo is very powerful and revs very quickly even though it is tuned way down for mpg. I bet you could flash the ECM to get Camaro type power. The metallic red with ST black instead of chrome looks very sharp.

I know on the first generation this car was mainly designed for the Chinese market but GM thought it would do well here to fit into the luxury compact segment so they manufactured it in China for export as well. It wasn’t like gm designed this vehicle for America then decided to make it in China to save on cost. It was initially somewhat of an afterthought to introduce it into the American market in the first place. In 2020 they sold 34,942 in U.S. compared to 167,880 in China!! But yeah it is weird seeing a Chinese manufactured car being sold here nonetheless.

"The exterior design is pretty good, if you ignore the Buick badge" (maybe not exact quote) Why? The Buick badge actually looks pretty good. Sofyan and some other automotive journalists (not many these days) need to review what they have in front of them and not what they thought something would or should be. "The Envision's package is certainly better than all the non-luxury brands but Buick needs to do a lot more to differentiate it from a Chevy" (maybe not exact quote) That's very contradictory and in fact, apart from the infotainment system, there isn't much here that reminds of Chevy. The color of the interior here is probably not the best but it actually looks decent as a mid market offering and the Avenir is pretty decent. My point is, Sofyan is being overly punitive but I've come to expect that. This Buick is a pretty nice vehicle.

The people in control of Buick are incapable of engineering a GNX. Besides, it would cost $175k and depreciate by more than 25% annually. GM refuses to let the Escalade interior designer give consultation to other brands(excluding the Vette). The exterior is so striking, only let down by classic GM penny pinching on the interior and features. The 2.0T used to make 270hp/295lb-ft of torque years before the Europeans made that type of power. Now they've seriously detuned it. But at the price this thing is, the Acura RDX or even a CPO MB GLC seem to be better buys.

@00_UU 3 жыл бұрын
Nope. Acura RDX with that touchpad infotainment is a terrible buy. What is wrong with new Envision interior? I tested it and I loved everything about it. Considering Envision is around $10k cheaper vs similarly equipped RDX or RX, Envision is a great buy. The only thing it lacks is acceleration.
@hellkitty1014

@@00_UU The track pad in the Acura shouldn't be confused with that of the atrocious Lexus. It is 1:1 in use, meaning you can point to exactly you're wanting to make your adjustment. True, it is still not as intuitive as just touching the screen(my preference and it is hilarious that the market is reverting back to it after chasing BMW i-Drive for the last 20 years). There isn't anything necessarily wrong with the Envision. I actually think it is one of the most handsome offerings in the class and dynamically...this aint Granny's Buick. Even the power and acceleration deficits aren't necessarily a bad thing because of the core audience that Buick's trying to attract. And you'd be surprised if I said that I disagree with Sofyan stating that this looks like a Chevy on the inside. No way. But it is an unimaginative interior when things like a Kia Sorento(equally new) offer more advanced design and color option. For $40k, a panoramic moonroof should be included, as should all safety features(not reserved just for the Avenir). The Buick is in a tricky place because it can't outshine platform-mate XT4, however I do believe there was more ground to cover in terms of total execution.(GM is certainly capable given the quantum leap made in the full-size SUV triplets).

I’m not even going to lie here, I would totally drive the new Envision ST and I wouldn’t mind driving the Enclave Premier. I’m almost 21 and am also not very picky when it comes to cars. Technology isn’t really a problem for me if a car doesn’t have all the bells and whistles that consumers expect, but anything new will be an upgrade from my 2016 Nissan Sentra SR. All I really need is more trunk and interior space, and the two Buick’s I mentioned would be perfect.

1) Hmmm . . . Mazda-like looks, you say. Looking at it from the 3/4 left angle she looks like very nice, whereas both the CX-5 and CX-30 look a little, well, dumpy and pudgy to me. The Envision's look smooths that same dynamic out a bit and it really looks good! 2) The 'fake' exhaust ports can be annoying, but these look much better than some (ex. the Seltos). 3) The dash looks a little odd but I prefer it to most of the competition . . . I prefer a touchscreen integrated into the dash as opposed to the 'monolith-like' protrusion you find in many CUVs these days. 4) I'd like to see a two-tone colour scheme in the interior, but I find the interior lighting emphasis from many car makers to be a little excessive.

I'm not really sure that's a fair thing to say, the interior (while not everyone's cup of tea) actually looks pretty good, especially if you see one with the panoramic roof. The transmission and engine are new too (9 speed transmission and 2L 4 cyl turbo). I do agree that the engine power is a bit underwhelming given how sporty the styling is, but it's middle of the pack when it comes to its competition and only about ~25hp down from higher end competitors (Mercedes GLC). I think Buick is realistic in who is going to buy this. People who are cross-shopping Alfa Romeo Stelvios aren't really going to be looking at the Buick Envision.

TTAC did a piece about whether Buick has a future. It should be moving upmarket with Envision as a benchmark. A youthful massive advertising campaign is needed. My only question is as to whether Chevrolet, like Hyundai & VW, should be offering higher quality mainstream offerings to stay on top. GM needs to decide if the want a Hyundai/Kia scheme or whether Buick is moving upmarket as a Cadillac companion. Beautiful exterior design. GM needs to steal some FCA interior designers ASAP

It's a shame when he goes back and forth between doing logic/reason based reviews to focusing on personal preferences when he is looking at brands he doesn't particularly care for and as a result is more critical of. If you look back through his reviews of Buick products it's pretty much the same (other than the more performance based vehicles they've offered as horsepower makes him smile and therefore get a different response) indicating he doesn't really "get" the concept of or care for, the manufacturer. Buick has always been a "tweener" brand which means that it's neither a luxury nor a base vehicle, it's right in the middle. Their vehicles have always been based on existing models of Chevy and Cadillac vehicles which is why they share the same physical layout in their interiors with increases in material quality. They very rarely will have custom interiors compared to their sister companies as that would immediately increase the price of their offerings. It is the same branding segment as Mercury was for Ford before being killed off. Mercury served as an offering between Ford and Lincoln. The purpose of a Buick is to provide a reasonably priced premium option between a Chevy and Cadillac with features and styling that bridged the brands. It was never meant to match the creature comforts and luxury feel of a Cadillac, in fact it has always been designed not to hit that level. Perhaps it is a personal dislike for this "type" of offering for him? I have always personally appreciated that this type of option exists as not everyone can afford the luxury brand but they might be able to afford a more premium offering than the base vehicles provide yet still want a nameplate that reflects success. The confusion increases as manufacturers offer more and more premium features in the base offerings that serve to dilute the significance of the mid-tier brands. That is a more prevalent problem now that Mercury no longer exists to fill this role on the Ford side of the equation which in turn has forced GM to offer more premium options to its base Chevrolet vehicles further lessening the value of a Buick. I suppose the argument could be made that with the axing the Mercury brand perhaps the need for tweener brands like Buick has been decreased to the point where the need for their existence has been put into question in today's marketplace. It's a valid discussion to have I suppose, but considering the deep automotive history behind brands like Buick I personally feel it would be a shame to lose yet another significant player simply because people don't realize or "get" the significant roles these tweener brands have played throughout their existence by lowering the costs of some features to a point where they can now be offered in lower cost vehicles. I personally dislike the confusing number of trim ranges now offered by Ford since the removal of the Mercury brand to compensate for it's loss. Ford trims are overly complicated for this very reason and require the shopper to do a deep dive in order to figure out how to spec their vehicle. Overall this was a positive review hindered only by his apparent dislike for the brand which translates into a lukewarm response to the vehicle overall. At the end of the review he did provide a recommendation, albeit a lukewarm one. Thanks

I test drove a fully loaded 2021 Essence with sport package. With GM discounts, the price was amazing, and it was very attractive. But...I never could get the seats adjusted so that they would be comfortable, and I am thin. They were quite hard with little padding. The main detractor was the lack of pick up and go. It was okay if a person does mainly stop and go traffic in the city, but out on the road? Disappointing compared to other vehicles I am currently testing. Maybe if it had a 2.5 turbo, it would have been better.
