Syril is a psychopathic killer in the making. He ticks all the usual boxes: mommy dearest issues, highly intelligent and very meticulous, is stuck in a mundane job that he thinks he's above of, illusions of grandeur, and now stalking someone he's obsessed with. He even got the ever-composed Dedra rattled when she found out he's been stalking her. If she's not careful, he could be the end of her.

It is slow. Doesn't mean it's not good, but sometimes slow isn't everyone's cup of tea and that's OK. You can have an imagination and still have a preference for a slightly snappier pace. I found it slow and not particularly gripping at the beginning, but I don't like giving up on a Star Wars thing before finishing it, I normally find something to enjoy in every one of them (only time I decided not to continue was with that animated Resistance show). I really loved this episode! Just like last episode I loved the pacing and how we were able to check in with all the characters/ storylines without it feeling rushed. I also think that cutting back and forth between storylines was done better in this episode than even the 8th episode. And this episode was so tense, I was worried and sitting on the edge of my seat the whole time. I also really liked all of the parallels between all the storylines, weather it be Cassian and Mon Mothma or Syril and Bix. And I loved Dedra’s line “You pull in the net, and the easy thing is to assume that everything you’ve dragged to shore is a fish.” because not only is it a very menacing line but it is super ironic. She talks about how the Empire shouldn’t assume that everyone they bring in is exactly the same and as they seem, but meanwhile Cassian Andor has been sent to prison with no investigation on what he has actually done because the Empire just assumes that he is like everyone else there. This episode also (even more than last episode) really made care about Cassian’s prison team. I so badly just want to see them be able to escape with him, but sadly it is unlikely that they will all make it. And Ulaf’s death was so heartbreaking, and I liked how his death was the final thing to make Kino side with Cassian. And speaking of Kino we got to see so much character development from him and how he truly acts, it made me like him even more and is what made me want to see him be able to escape with Cassian and the others. I can’t wait to see next week’s episode, I am super excited to see where the story will go and how Cassian and the other ms will finally make their escape.

Cassian repeating the "how many guards" line at the end and then Kino actually answering the question this time around gave me nipple chills. It's time for Prison Break: Star Wars Edition! Andy Serkis was phenomenal this episode. Also, I've really enjoyed the 3-4 episode "arc" platform this show uses. It gives it a somewhat unique feel somewhere in between episodic and serial. I also really like the longer episode lengths and having more episodes in the season. I feel comfortable saying this has been my favorite of all the Star Wars shows so far.

The thing about the recordings as torture, is it's not JUST children dying. It's the young of THAT particular species, dying. That species makes a noise as they die that is especially destructive to the psychology of most other species. It's probably an evolutionary defense mechanism to drive off predators when they attack one of them. One death keeps the entire group safe. Those of the young are probably especially horrible as they're probably also a much more vehement cry for help along with whatever that death-noise is. It's some combination of frequencies and such that overloads the connections between the auditory senses and the unconscious mind, creating completely inescapable negative emotional responses. All of them, at full power, without cease.

Syril Karn being obsessed with Dedra is the simplest thing to understand. The man's attracted to a dominant woman who appeared to go out of her way to do something nice for him. Basically, his mother without the constant brow beating, but she has already proven that she'll exert negative force over him, so she IS his mother. It's a twisted sexual attraction because he's twisted. Deep down, he longs to be under the heel of a punishing female. It can twist further, though, and he could try to physically harm her if she doesn't allow him close to her. By hurting her, he would be hurting his mother.
@kathrynbedrosian3464
@kathrynbedrosian3464 Жыл бұрын
Good call. But I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up killing his mother, maybe accidentally. And somehow he believes that will free him to fully commit to Dedre. But I'm shocked by so many people saying that she's into it - I don't think she is at all. I think she see's him as unstable and unstable = dangerous, to her career if not her actual life.
@eme.261
@eme.261 Жыл бұрын
@@kathrynbedrosian3464 - I will be disappointed if they write Dedra's character as responding positively to Syril's fixation. The man's delusional and has already proved that he would ignore boundaries when he grabbed her and yanked her close. Yes, she's not a good person and hasn't earned our goodwill, but she's proven to be intelligent and wiley enough to go up against dismissive chauvinists-- being attracted to an obsessive, delusional weirdo who's incapable of progressing her professional life, would be out of character.

I grew up with Star Wars. I waited in line with my dad for the opening of Empire Strikes back, it's been the background of my geek life every since. It sagged a bit with the prequels and the growing hatesphere of fandom over the last 20 or so years, but Mandalorian brought back the spark. But Andor? Andor is the best GD Star Wars I've ever seen, by leaps and bounds. WOW.

The torture build up by Joshua James (Dr Gorst) was acted superbly. That whole scene is as dark as Star Wars has ever got. Torture by the audio of the screams of children being massacred. Brilliantly pushing the envelope on more mature story telling in Star Wars.

One of my biggest surprises this season has been how much I've enjoyed Cereal's storyline (I know that's not his name, I just think it's funny that Ciril is always eating Cereal). Man it really will be crazy if it turns out that Deidra is Andor’s sister he was searching for in EP 1, which is almost forgotten story point at this point. That would be crazy how that would play out when she finally finds Andor. Andor would have been searching for his sister which was the thing that kicked all this story off. Deidra would have even hunting her own brother she didn’t know he was and likely thought dead.

The guy from 4 to 2 means that when you finish your sentence, you aren't released, there were loads of buildings in the lake when Andor first arrived on the planet, its likely when you finish your sentence in one building, they just move you to another so no one recognises you. He was likely meant to be moved from level 4 in this building to level 2 in another, but a mistake happened and he was moved into level 2 in the same building. Thats what i assume anyway.

Great watch. By prison Break time next week, it may become more clear that a lot of prisoners could be Rebel candidates, as well as Jabba like loan sharks, working the edges, helping finance the rebellion to ensure cash flow. Not ideal bedfellows. Plus expect Luthens next gamble to fail, and so that may be a way to resolve Cassian's role, in that Luthen is no longer hidden, so Cassian can become a rebel leader, with good planning skills and intuition.

Did you notice the homage to _A New Hope_ when the door to the interrogation room closes downward and we follow the leaving guard's feet? Taken almost verbatim from the Princess Leia interrogation scene on the Death Star. Nice touch! Syril is going to end up killing someone. Whether that ends up being his overbearing mother or Dedra (for multiple rejections) remains to be seen. Speaking of Syril, am I the only one who thinks that one of Cassian's prison team looks like he could be Syril's twin, but with a different haircut? It even looks like the same actor! *THIS SHOW DESERVES WAY MORE ACCOLADES!* Spread the word to your friends sitting on the fence. Never mind that it "doesn't have much action". If you NEED action, go watch a football game instead. This show is every bit of fantastic.

I find it interesting how the use of British actors and the Queen's English gives such an aura of domination of a colonizing power. There is the feel of pettiness and weakness by individuals gifted with privelege. Yet collectively they seem to master the space around them through applied learning and committed precision and careful organization and ruthless planning and focused execution.

Andor is a way is the Han Solo of this storyline - the thief and mercenary who ,over time, realizes and appreciates the higher ideals of the rebellion and eventually becomes the hero. Relates to the idea of "scratch a cynic and underneath you'll find a disappointed idealist", In Andor's case he is re-connecting, - or maybe for the first time connecting,-with that part of his character..
