The paint spraying is impressive - you can spray a room in the time I might take for a coffee break

2 or even 3 coats on walls per day of a 3 bed house, upstairs and down is easily achievable for one person. Next day mask the top half or so of the walls and do the ceilings. Only slowed down by drying times. Highly recommend getting the masking applicator thing that sticks masking tape to the paper / plastic sheet.

Do you use them for just base coat or do 2-3 coats with colours as you would a roller? I’m trying to figure out how useful it’ll actually be to invest

I have used the same set up for a few years now after watching your first video on the sprayer. I normally dilute the paint when spraying to get a better flow. Always drill whisk and then sieve even new paints. I regularly only do a single top coat though. Cleaning up is a pain what ever tools you use when painting though! Keep up the content.

The Milwaukee MX FUEL MXF TL-601 is what you needed for lighting up that place while spraying, we used one for rendering outside and its like a mini sun 🌞 have a look on the speedy site 🙂

We filmed with the MX Fuel kit recently. Unfortunately the lights which are amazing, are a nightmare around cameras, great colour but hard to match a frame rate so footage would be very flickery. Obviously a bit of a niche problem but the lights were great!

Hi all Definitely the airless spray gun is the way forward , I remember in the 1970s there was an advent with an industry airless unit mounted on a train spraying a meter wide panel set at the side of the track . The train then set off with the airless sprayer coating the panels as the train went at speed down the track. I also remember seeing these units being used in factories, and indeed they would cover tremendous areas in a very short time , and Was told by one of the guys they actually used less paint than if they used brushes or rollers . So in your case it’s a no brainier as they say . Best wishes and kind as always 😀👍👍👍

Tip size - minor thinning compensates as it is a Cisco city issue - which is tip size. Trim paint vs wall paint, oil vs latex - you need 4-5 tips. That spray enamel trim paint beautiful with the right tip. Looks good. Pumping the paint is the was the way to go on new construction.

I’ll often crack out a roller rather than deal with the clean up. It’s stupid really, as spraying is quicker even with cleanup. Prep and masking time is the same for me, as I prefer to overspray trim, coving, and ceilings.

Nice work. However I’ve found out any touch up with a brush or roller when it’s dry will stick out like a sore thumb. It’s inevitable the walls will get marked when doing the ceiling and kitchen etc. Also spraying uses so much more paint. 👍🏻

Spraying brings with it a certain satisfaction I definitely don't get with rollers or brushes. Something about the repetitive Tai Chi:esque movements maybe? 🧐

I do a lot of spraying I will say some jobs it's not really worth spraying and might save 1 days work other jobs like painting a barn could save 3 or 4 days of work. Shutters look excellent sprayed lattice. 1 drawback is it tend to use more paint idk exactly how much but maybe 25% more

For white paint being sprayed on white walls, I think you did pretty well to make an interesting video. I was thinking that you could have had one of you spraying and the other with a roller to improve distribution on the walls when you'd got the paint onto them. When the walls are dirty, and it's going to show with white walls, using a mini roller to repaint the walls is a near certainty. Also, in kitchens and bathroom areas white kitchen/bathroom paint that is scrubable over the top of the paint on the walls may be an idea - it might be that there won't be any areas that you get that dirty so you won't need it but it is an idea....!??!

The plan is to panel the lower wall in areas with most traffic. Bathroom will be a different paint as will utility. It will certainly be put to the test but at least we have the little handheld airless sprayer for touch ups. Its more the muddy dog tail i'm worried about, hence the panels! 😂

Tim if you’re using the 510 tip with emulsion then pressure 5 is more likely what you should be on. I have the same unit and generally spray on 5 with undiluted emulsion using that tip. 👍

That's chucking out a lot of paint though, guess its faster passes though? Will try again next time. Next rooms are small walls so using the smaller graco which usually is fine.

Hi Tim, working my way through last sumers videos and getting uo to date after some time away. Is the paint the mat finish heritage range? If so I'd be keen to hear how you get on with it. I have it on all the painted walls in my house except bathroom and it's shocking for marking, can't wipe marks off it, it marks with the slightest rub of a hoover handle etc or watch or ring. Get any grease near it and you've no chance, Wasing up splashes stain it, it's a really bad choice for anything less than an unoccupied show home. Thank god I don't have kids or petsat home any more is all I can say! I have to restrain myself from chaperoning guests round the house when they visit! Let me know how it's working for you.

Tim and everyone in the chat, I’ve got the same Wagner but for some reason mid way through spraying the pressure drops out and I end squirting thick line of paint on the wall. I then have to turn of the machine and re prime it to sort it out. Not sure if it’s the hose line getting blocked or something that causes it but it’s so frustrating

Quick question Tim, are you cladding the ceilings or putting up plasterboard. If plasterboard would it be easier to paint the ceiling first. Plus any tips on preventing neck ache and back ache to keep the sprayer at 90 degrees?

Hi guys,it's probably to late but why not use ur head torch or get Jo to follow with a cordless led light ! How much paint did u use in the end ! R u thinking about doing 1 wall a different colour as a feature wall ?

Feature wall will be cedar boards plus some other colours/paper in bedrooms. A decent cordless led light is definitely on the wish list before the big build!

I've been a professional decorator for 50 years and have used roller and spray for walls, and I always prefer a roller, especially with no cutting in to do. Stephen Woodward mentioned in the comments about someone (Jo 😉) following with a roller, which was my thoughts! I think a spray only puts the paint on the surface, as opposed to a roller (or brush) which works the paint into the surface. Of course, being a pro decorator, rolling is second nature and I realize that spraying may be easier for the DiYer. Our main problem was always the lack of light, and when possible, we would always wait until the finished lighting was installed before applying the final coat. (After first checking for any misses, filling etc). I would be very surprised if there wasn't lots of touching up/filling to do when the light improves, but of course you need to crack on, and couldn't wait until the light improved!

I used a Wagner 690 Flexio sprayer and Leyland Contract, paint matt white - what a disappointment. No matter what pressure settings / dilution the spray pattern was uneven / blotchy. I filtered the paint before using - but the Wagner Flexio sprayer generated a lot of small dry paint bits in the spray pattern!!. I used easy fill filler, but the paint would not hide it - even after 3 coats. At certain times of the day you can see the filler patches show through. Ended up ditching the sprayer and using a roller instead.
@TheRestorationCouple
@TheRestorationCouple Жыл бұрын
Yeah that can be a problem with the HVLP type sprayers, I remember the same with spraying diluted clay emulsion. Great with wood finish though but emulsion would almost dry before it hit.
@gkip1890
@gkip1890 Жыл бұрын
I had the same issue so I called Leyland they said that their paints aren’t compatible for spraying m. Similarly normal dulux isn’t, only dulux trade range can ve sprayed.
@rtreborg8472

Conveniently on the demos on the Wagner web site they don't warn the user of these issues - just interested in selling sprayers that are net to useless for one of their primary purposes.
@TheRestorationCouple
@TheRestorationCouple Жыл бұрын
@@rtreborg8472 I’ve not come across anything that doesn’t spray with airless. Leyland and dulux fine. I think the issue is often people trying to spray straight out of the tin with the hvlp sprayers mentioned above.
