If you want a bit more insulation and also to protect the super-light fabric, you could pair it up with a lightweight plastizote closed cell mat like the ones offered by Multimat. That way you're getting 3.5 R of insulation for very modest weight and all the multi-use benefits of the closed cell mat.

One need not inflate a pad all at once...I will put a few breaths into mine, then do something else, then put a few more breaths in, do something else, etc. This way you don't get out of breath, light-headed or exhausted from blowing into the thing constantly at altitude. As long as it's inflated by the time you want to lie down on it, easy does it.

that looks like the original neoair that I've been using since it first came out , tiny pack size and very light weight , I've been using the little battery powered pump for the last 3 years and its great , 29 inflations off 2 AAA batteries ( witch isn't bad for something as tiny as that )

I bought one of these last week and went out 5 days ago with my wife on a 3 day hike. I was delighted with the size/weight . My wife slept on it the first night and I wanted to scream when I heard it. The night was still and I am sure that a couple of other hikers about 150 yds away could easily hear it also. My wife is deaf at night without her hearing aid on so she could not hear it. I used it the second night and it was comfortable enough but I am thinking of getting something else. Mine sounded completely different than the one you show. I am not show in the video.

I now have a production model and also find it fine, though I think it really depends on the person - if you’re sensitive then you might find it noisy, or then you find it fine.

Couple tips, fold your mat into a rectangle and put it along the back of your pack. Way easier than rolling. Secondly there are three options for pump sack from Thermarest including a DIY one. I made my own from the top of a pet bottle which also serves as a liner for my bag. Just make a hole that fits on the valve and then thread the cap/top of the bottle into the bottom of the trash bag.

New subscriber. I just purchased the uberlite and it will arrive tomorrow in the mail. I bought it basically for the John Muir Trail I'm hiking this August. I follow two hikers that have had an x-therm for many years. They both did a video about mold on the inside. It was proven by both that mold does not grow on the inside. Follow Bigfoot and Back Country Exposure. Looking forward to some of your videos.

Ah, right - missed that part with the release date then :) No problem as I'm not too keen on winter hiking and I have a closed cell foam mat that I can use in the meantime. However winter hiking is one of my more memorable trips, Type 2 Fun. 3 season sleeping bag, no tent under a clear sky with pine trees all around, negative 20 degrees C and sleeping with all my clothes on. Survived the night and is now fun to talk about later, haha.

A garbage bag might do the job. Cut a little hole in the bottom of it, turn it inside out and put the inlet of your pad through that hole. Use a rubber band to make it airtight and you're good to go. Nice video btw!

It's so odd that most reviews only cover weight and packed size. No review ever shows how you really lay on it, how your arms won't fit on the pad, how tossing and turning slides the pad away from you. How stomach or side sleepers get awkward pressure points on arms etc. This comment sounds a little negative, but please take it as inspiration to cover a product in a different, more realistic way. We all know this pad is light and compact, but is it also comfortable? If so, for which type of people?

Nice review. I have the Uberlite and, as an ultralight seeker, I really wanted to like it, but I find it to be so slippery on both sides. When i'm in my sleeping bag, I feel I'm about to fell from it because of that, especially when the ground it's not leveled. In this case, it's easy to end up on one side of the tent. I wonder why they haven't coated the fabric somehow, in order to avoid that. Besides that, it's kinda noisy against some fabrics. But I still like it somehow, because it's so light and small.
@HendrikMorkel

You could apply a few strips of Silnet to the top to create a less stick surface. Or get the XL Version to have more space?!
@agatho00
@agatho00 4 жыл бұрын
@@HendrikMorkel I thought about that, but I'm afraid not to ruin it. And I'm afraid no one will want it with that modification if I want to sell it in the future. I will give that a second thought, though. An XL version defies the reason I bought this sleeping mat (to be extremely lightweight).

What do you think of the mat now since you first used it? Durability issues ? Also, moisture can't escape on its own, need to warm it and let it out and reinflate few times. For mold, exposing to UV light in a dark room will help control growth

@@HendrikMorkel The thermarest xtherm max comes with a small silver pump sack but you can also get the bigger yellow ones. So easy to inflate and also you should never use breath as it can create mould growth in the mat due to making it wet but also even more important if the inside is wet from breath vapour then it lowers the thermal properties of the mat because its wet inside. Ive always used pump sacks with my mats for the sake of an extra 30-40grams especially at altitude haha. Cheers Hendrik keep up the good reviews.

Great pad--in theory. Light weight. Very small pack size. Comfortable. But, none of that means diddly if it won't hold air. Mine failed the first time I used it on the first night of a 4-day mountain backpacking trip. I froze my butt off sleeping on ground. Therm-a-Rest "customer service" basically said I must have damaged it in some way. REI was great--they gave me a full refund. I'm not the only person this has happened to. But, to this day, Therm-a-Rest has not even acknowledged there is a problem.
