The blade design seems copied from the Nidec Gentle Typhoon low-speed version (minus the notches towards the hub the GT has). Unfortunately, this one seems to lack smooth commutation, which the Nidec has. I'm not sure if the non-Extrem version is different with that. It also seems to have more vibration.
Out of the box, all of the corners have black rubber, but I just put on the red corner because that's how it looks in a lot of the promo imagery, and I think it looks more distinctive that way. It comes with a set of red and white corners in the box.

Currently in the market for some new fans, your videos have been quite helpful. One thing if you ever want to make extra videos would be some kind of test to see amount of air flow with and without some form of impendence. Either way thanks for the videos.

Since they are now sold at only 11 euros here in germany i am thinking of getting one. But before i buy i have a few questions for you: What is the general built quality of these like? Do the blades break easily? Do the blades touch the frame at high speeds? And does the bearing wear out fast on these (making clicking noises) or are they good a long time? Thx for your answers.
@larrythehedgehog
@larrythehedgehog 2 жыл бұрын
the noise at low rpm may be due to the blade incidence against the back supporting arms causing buffeting to occur. noctua curves the back of the frame arms in the opposite direction of the blades so that the point of incidence is lower and thus causes less noise.
@ydihtty
@ydihtty 2 жыл бұрын
I would expect that to maybe make a difference at higher speeds, but the lower speed noise definitely sounds like motor torque impulses to me.
@kadefringe
@kadefringe 2 жыл бұрын
Actually not too bad for a 3k RPM fan. Low RPM noise is a little downside, but over 2k RPM the noise is not that irritating to hear. Definitely a worthy opponent of the noctua ippc.
@ydihtty
@ydihtty 2 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah I would definitely prefer this to the iPPC. I really don't like the design of the NF-F12. It might have better static pressure at zero airflow, but the PQ curve for this gentle typhoon blade design is probably much better.

Any chance to have the 140mm version tested? Am looking for a decent servo-like fan for my LiquidFreezer II 280mm rad until Noctua finally releases their next gen 140mm. I know everyone praises the Arctic P14's, but I hate their sound signature and it seems like each fan exibits slight buzzing/rattle at different rpm's. There's just no consistency across the P12/P14 line of fans compared to something like the A12x25's or T30's.

The unit variance of max RPM is ±10%. The rated max RPM is 3150. 3150*0.9 is 2835, so 2845 is above the minimum expectation here.

@datdudeinred

If a noctua runs at this sort of speeds it will still be same or almost comparable noise. Noise levels increases exponentially as rpm increases. Also noctua nfa12 is actually a copy of nidec so there's that.

@ydihtty
@ydihtty 2 жыл бұрын
@@user-sw3rs9eq3r If you look more closely, its obvious that the blade design is very different. Compared to the Gentle Typhoon, the NF-A12x25 has: - Sharper blade tip - Tighter tip clearance - Shorter blade length (to accommodate Noctua's Stepped Inlet design) - Flow Acceleration channels - Shallower blades (gives some clearance between a grill and the leading edge of the blade, especially compared to the GT which reduces clearance towards the tip) - Overall flatter profile of the leading edge. Its still sunken towards the hub, but there is a subtle convex curve out towards the tip - Sharper leading/trailing edge, along with thicker blades, which gives a noticeably different cross-sectional profile, the bottom of the blades is smooth - Less curve in the overall shape, but a greater forward-sweep from the base of the blade (going further the other way would yield something like the Coolermaster Sickleflow X) - No notches in the trailing edge towards the base of the blade (probably not needed due to LCP material and greater gap between the trailing edge and the struts) Basically every parameter of the blade geometry is different...

@@ydihtty well, there is a new sheriff in town and you know his name. but what if i need...lets say...15 of them? quite harmful for your wallet. i currently use bunch of toughfans and p12 argb's for rads and case. upgrading to a12x25 or t30 will give some results, but it will be about deminishing returns. thats why i look for this kind of superpowerful, but not so superpricy fans and other pc stuff.

@Mario Kart the scythe gentle typhoons was more in competition with the Noctua nf-a12. but the gt stomped the nf-a12 when it came to sp. but then all the talks about what the best all lead to not worth the cost when a $4 yate loon fan got better performance per droller. hence the 30mm rads used today was they work well with cheaper less sp fans. if you got the space its better to go more rad vs more expensive fan any day.
