Polystyrene is attracted to static charges. I wonder if you could have combed your hair then placed the comb over the aluminum and super fine polystyrene beads and have the beads stick to the comb. What you showed in the video looks almost identical to silver/aluminum "Testors" brand paint for hobbies. The copper oxide you show in the video is exactly what you want to prevent from forming when brazing copper refrigeration lines. You use an inert gas like nitrogen. The black scale will not form inside the pipe to clog up capillary tubes.

If you ask me, the final test looked much better than most peoples' thermite videos, largely due to how little there was and how much slower it seemed to burn.

If I remember correctly, military thermite grenades contain mostly iron oxide, aluminum powder, and barium nitrate. I believe the barium nitrate is present to initiate ignition. The fact that it also contributes oxygen to the reaction helps to sustain the termite process. Also, the reason that iron oxide is used instead of copper oxide is, of course, cost. Military munitions are expensive enough without adding the cost of copper.
