The famous Mid Transfer Rescue one of those IRATA level 3 training exercises that people try to avoid doing. In todays video I will show you how to rescue someone when they are doing a large rope to rope transfer. This is a video I have gotten requested often. I have filmed it twice before. The first time it was not very clean and I because of the rigging I had my back to the camera. The second time was perfect!! But the microphone quit!...
This time everything worked out. I had some help behind the camera so we actually have some camera movement ;-)

Love this vid 👏🏼 almost messed up the rescue during my L3 evaluation. Last rescue for the day. Was so tired 😅. Was on the ascending side. Anyways keep up the good work 🫶🏻

Thanks!! Those Mics are from Boya. www.kamera-express.nl/boya-by-wm8-pro-k2-uhf-draadloze-microfoon-set Good mics, only the controls I find cumbersome. Might be me not looking into them properly though. I use rechargable AA batteries and the sometimes run out unpredictably. Again solely my fault that I should change them quicker. Audio is good and very little interference. The transmitter is rather big though. That is why I just bought the DJI Mic. www.kamera-express.nl/dji-mic-2-tx-1-rx- Supersmall, easy to setup and in a charging case. And they have internal recording as well. I have not used them but I think they are really good based on other peoples opinions.

Solid work as usual. Have you considered attaching his descender to his backup line and swapping the ASAP onto his working line above the Croll? That way, you can get the descender tight and you don't need to lower the casualty onto it after the snatch. You could even put a 3:1 on the descender and the Croll will go slack after a couple of pulls so no need for a counter-balance rescue. Just another way of doing it, no better or worse than your technique.

Definitely a good possibility 👍🏼. That works very good in a training center where there is little stretch in the ropes. If it were outside with 50m of rope the stretch will complicate it some. But if you’d add that 3:1 that stretch is gone in no time 😉👍🏼. I am just really comfortable with that counterbalance. Even with almost 50% bodyweight difference I can manage easily. I consider it as a basic skill for a lot of other rescues so usually teach a version like this first. The fun thing about this stuff is there are quite a few great ways of doing this😉😉. Hi Alex, Is it's acceptable to connect your cow's tail with the carabiner's ID instead of tie a butterfly knot when you remove your backup passing dummy's croll? Thanks😊

Als long as you prevent shockloads in a toothed device I think so yes

Best regards, wouldn't it be more comfortable to connect the victim's chest to the sensor from the beginning, to avoid so many connections?

What do you mean with sensor? And what many connections? We need 4 both ways and two between us and with this method we need to pass the casualty as well. And of course there are many different ways of doing this task 🙏🏻

Quick question: For attaching the hand ascender and other gear what kind of rope are you using? Static, dynamic? Or doesn't it really matter, because since the rope is so short the stretch doesn't do much anyway? In particular I would be interested IF there's a rule applying for the hand ascender, because it's not allowed to shock load anything with teeth. Shouldn't happen ofc, but just in case on several fuckery upery it would be better to have a dynamic rope for that, no? Thank you so much for your videos. Motivated me to sign up for a FISAT Level 1 course.

Cowstails are usually dynamic rope. When we use them in aid climbing that little bit of extra stretch does make a difference in shock absorption. In aid they function as our back up. There are no hard rules in regards to hand ascenders. Some is opinion, some is manufacturers specification, some a scheme or local history. For instance, I think on the petzl site it says to attach the hand ascender with a Petzl Jane (dynamic rope) when in motion in a croll. I am pretty sure there are manufacturers who don’t give that specification. There is a pretty good “why” behind the reasoning of an attached hand ascender when ascending in a croll. But that is a bit long explanation for now. I would say, I f you’re going to work as fisat, then follow their rules.

Cant you just clip your cowstail to the central D-ring of the casualty as a backup before climbing above the casualty? Probably faster than doing an alpine? Or is that not ok for some reason?

Another great question!! Keep them Coming😃 If you do that and you would fall into the cowstail, I would shockload the casualty’s croll. And that is something we try to prevent. A second backup would be best.

Does the ID have to be checked or even sorted out after ascending on the break hand side of the rope? Just wondering as I dont want to damage it during training rescues...

Great question 😃 You should always check your gear before use. That said I have never seen a damaged I’d from ascending on the break hand side. The break that way at about 12kn I think. Not a force we can create with normal ascending

I never let my L1 do a rope to rope transfer using their chest ascender on a job site. 2 ID’s only..

For me it depends, if it is only to move sideways at one height yes. (Like in the thumbnail and picture I show in the video). But if there is ascending to be done afterwards they can choose.

When you put his ID under his crawl , you could of just hauled up a little on your working line and this would create the slack in his crawl far easier

I am going to have to disagree with that one. Me going higher in my descender would not create slack on the Croll. He needs to go up, not me.
