Foot pronation is not a dirty word. In fact, it's essential and important for a springy, injury-free stride. But we do get in trouble when we over-pronate, which is what this video is all about.

I used to have this problem, and now I don’t. What did I do to strengthen my feet? Jump rope barefoot. That’s all I did and definitely made a difference in my running. No more ankles sprains that’s for sure.

When I walk, I overpronate, so my first running shoes were the stability/motion control kind. My feet would hurt, my tibial tendon would get sore, and I would feel like my feet were being forced to supinate way too much. Then I realized that when I run, I mid-foot strike, and don't overpronate. I switched to neutral shoes and everything felt great. The lesson learned? Make sure any shoe store analyzes how you run, not how you stand or walk.

I have genetically flat feet and was born with my legs facing inwards and had them turned outwards so I think I’m one of the people who need the arch support. This was very informative tho

Genetically pronating feet usually is associated with a condition called Morton's foot syndrome, in which the big toe is shorter than the next toe when the toes are flattened to the floor. .

It's not a dirty word, and while you can strengthen your feet, it will not fix your OP for most. And some will get foot problems not wearing supportive foot wear in their house - PF being the major one. You mostly OP at the ankles btw.

I've had a chance to ask some shoe expert to check and see my gaits/ strides at a running store before. He told me that I did not under or over pronate, but I've always felt my feet underpronate while running. That's why I love running in neutral shoes from Hoka One One. ^^ Thanks for all these great tips about pronation, coach Nate!

This was right in time for me. I ran a marathon this past weekend and about mile 17 I noticed my feet overpronating and by the last three miles all I could do was walk it was hurting so bad. Thanks for the words of wisdom and I will definitely be checking out the app and videos to help and strengthen my feet.
