Andrei Kiralenko could have made this list. I remember seeing Tim Duncan on a podcast being asked about playing World of Warcraft. Duncan said that he was really into that game but Kiralenko was an addict. The night before a playoff game Duncan was up at 2 am playing because he was injured and didn't need to get sleep for the game, but he ran into Kiralenko in game. Also, I'm standing up for Hassan Whiteside. He is one of those players whose perception holds him back. Whiteside's last year as a starter in Portland he was averaging 13 rebounds and led the league in blocks at 3 per game. The Blzaers let him walk (being literally their only defensive player) and nobody wanted to sign him. The Kings paid him a minimum, and were the worst defensive team in the NBA. Despite having Whiteside on the roster, Luke Walton wouldn't play Whiteside at all. The net effect of that is, Walton got fired because people finally figured out that he's a terrible coach and Whiteside gets thought of as "washed" because a bad coach buried him on a team with a bad roster. I understand that Whiteside doesn't have the heart of a champion. But I also can't sign off on him being a disappointment. There is so much going on in this league that is more about player perception trumping player ability. It's one of my least favorite aspects of the NBA. Seeing coach's or organizations not utilize their players talents while that player shoulders all of the burden that comes along with it.

It's been 6 years since Ayton was drafted. For me he's tough to evaluate. Sure he's a walking double double but after 6 years all he has to show for it is the All Rookie First Team. No All Stars, no All NBAs, no All Defense, never led the league in any box score statistics. He's also turning 26 this year so I guess he is as close to his ceiling as he can get. Four players drafted after him are already much more decorated than he is.

Jokic is different in that he constantly improved, to the point of becoming the best player in the league and becoming an NBA champion and two time MVP, meaning he wasn't content with only getting paid and living the lifestyle (which Jokic is not about at all). The likes of Simmons and Ayton have showed zero improvement and the likes of Simmons, Whiteside, and Deron regressed FAST.
@randygraham926

Yes, but Jokic is highly competitive on the court and off. Also very locked in to help his teammates win. He worked to develop those skills and he also had terrible fitness when he entered the league. He changed his diet and started working out seriously. People think he's out of shape because he can't jump but if you watch him in 4th quarters, he is never tired no matter how much running or how physical the game is. That's a high fitness level -- especially for a guy that is 280 and runs everything for Denver.😉

Like Andy said, for guys who are really tall, there's definitely and expectation that you're going to play basketball and people think you're weird if you don't. Their physical gifts likely pushed them to the sport where some excel by accident. And for others, it's just like any other passion that you turn into a job -- once it becomes work, it's not a passion anymore.

The main point of this video for those who don’t know is that each of the players featured just don’t have the drive and work ethic to better their skills each day, each year. These types of players have never been and will never be meaningful contributors to championship teams In other words, they have no *KILLER INSTINCT* and are _soft as Charmin_ as the late Kobe Bryant would have said.

The thing these guys lack work ethic, but also “future sight”. Curtis Martin hated football and really didn’t want to play in the NFL. On draft night, he tried to leave, until his uncle told him “if you work hard and frfr work at this, you’ll be able to help people and your family the way you’ve always wanted.” He became a HOFer…why? He understood that busting his ass would give him everything he REALLY wanted. These dudes are short changing themselves trying to get rich quick, and not thinking “what could I do to make sure I KEEP making this money if not, more.”

I love curtis martin, i have his jersey and his story is inspiring. On the other hand it's different in the modern NBA. Football players generally earn less and especially in the early 2000's. Curtis Martin earned a little less than 50 million over his whole career, while Whiteside who played for like 4 seasons moderately well earned double that. Modern NBA players like Ayton don't need to work hard to be insanely rich. I know adjusted for inflation curtis's money is worth more, but in his day there weren't players that could just get by on talent alone. Now you can.

Yeah, let’s be real, no one would play 4 games a week potentially destroying their body for free. You need to make a living, get medical insurance, allocate your time. That being said, you can make the money and have fun playing and competing. Who wouldn’t want to be paid doing something they love? I think Deron Williams did have passion for the game, but he was honest in saying the injuries and failures in the postseason took the fun out of it for him. It’s almost as if being paid for his hobby ruined his hobby. It just makes you appreciate guys like Derrick Rose and Shaun Livingston more.

There are multiples nba players who have gone onto podcast and have had interviews were they have discussed how varied amounts of players don’t give a shit about winning or the game in general. They utilize the talent and potential into manipulating teams to give them solid if not amazing contracts and then begin to regress purposely or utilize injury and stretch it out as long as possible.

Ummmm. Jokić is a top three player in the league and has been for some time now and has won championships as the star player on the team. I believe he’s already a Hall of Famer. In terms of advanced metrics- his most similar players list includes Shaquille O’Neal (the most similar) Walt Bellamy, Bill Russell, Hakeem, and Willis Reed. He has improved massively in his career. He is currently in the top 2 in the NBA in the following metrics: VORP, BPM (#1), and PER and win shares/48 (#2). In what universe is Jokić even remotely similar to the guys in the video??🤣🤣🤣

I think KAT being in this list is completely unfair. He’s literally an Allstar this year and is on like the best team in the west being their #2 and at times #1 option. He’s a solid rim protector too. He’s considered by many to be the 5th best big man in the game rn that could be him, adebeyo, or KP depending who you ask. He wants to be good, he just doesn’t necessarily wanna expand. He wants to play the game his way. KD has always been the same player, never attempted to expand to be a defensive monster or something. Kept doing what he does, so ion see why we treat kat different

I think one guy that should be on the list is DeMarcus Cousins. He had injuries but they were mostly due to him being overweight. But, what was even worse, was how bad he behaved himself around coaches and teammates. He was such a bully and a public complainer, that Kings shipped him away for almost no return during his contract year. And that really messed up his plans to lock in that huge contract. Then, he got overweight, injured and never got that mega deal.
@conorwatchvidz
@conorwatchvidz 3 ай бұрын
That doesn’t mean he hates playing basketball. If anything, his on-court outbursts only show his passion for the game and competitiveness, he was just immature or didn’t know how to control himself. He tried returning to the NBA after injury multiple times. And he’s still playing in Puerto Rico, do you really think if he didn’t enjoy basketball he’d be playing in Puerto Rico right now?
@mrvk39

@@conorwatchvidz his outbursts show he lacks self-control and is selfish, putting his interests above the team's. He also never kept his weight in check that led to all his injuries. Andrew Wiggins. He's out indefinitely for second year in a row for "personal" reasons. Though you only see a few ever do it, in 2024, you can respect a player needing to do that and give him benefit of the doubt. But when it starts to become a pattern, the BS has to be called out. At the end of the day, it's his job and he's getting paid millions to do it. At some point in time, you just gotta suck it up and do what you are paid to do and use the offseason to mop and whine if you must.
