"Just 50 American families have funneled more than $600 million into the 2024 elections in donations to political parties, PACs and super PACs, a new report has found - a staggering figure that underscores the disproportionate influence the wealthy will wield on the outcome of November’s elections.
The report, from the progressive nonprofit Americans for Tax Fairness (ATF), tracked the top 50 families or individuals, all worth billions, who have pumped the most money into the political system as of early May."

@@timmy-wj2hc Yes. There would be a massive amount of theft of property, rape, murder and torture of rich people, which is why Affluephobia, a term I coined, is a thing. They do, however, inevitably, defend against that movement with peace loving and un-envious people by their side who just want to get along with their daysand pursue their own interests, namely rising in prosperity without violence until pressed by kinetic force (or admittedly in some instances the force of the stomach) and thus start a civil war and an attempted class-based genocide. Centrally planned economies have been proven to be wildly successful and objectively better than capitalism, the problem is, Capitalism is subjectively superior in terms of variety, freedom of movement, freedom of speech, freedom to find jobs around the world, etc.. Even this premise of objective superiority due to the tragedy of the commons and therefore an increase in time preference and a rejection of infinite growth over time requires a starvation genocide or pre-natal genocide or even both. Capitalism is a good thing for everyone, it fosters economic growth and thereby has lifted billions of people out of subsistence agriculture and into the global middle-class. I acknowledge that tariffs build economies through creative destruction, but keeping them for to long just raises prices, creates the possibility of trade wars and reduces the amount of new growth we can sustain. I know it seems like the only thing capitalists do is give the same 5 arguments, but state socialism is sub-optimal, particularly the fact that the only time you could open your mouth in the USSR was when you went to your 100% free dentist.

They have the best tax lawyers money can buy. They also have so much money and assets overseas and/or in shell companies. It's almost impossible to trace or enforce tax evasion at that level.

@@TheSweetScience123 We know what to do about it, we just can't find the will to do it. The railroad barons around 1900 were (relatively) about as rich as today's super billionaires. The New Deal fixed that. We need a new New Deal. I always find it ironic that MAGAs want to go back to the 1950s, but they oppose the tax laws that were in effect at the time that helped create the environment. (WW2 flattening much of Europe also helped, but seriously taxing the rich helped level the playing field.)

It's also this country's original, and ongoing, sin. We took what the indigenous people had because it was valuable. We went from indentured servitude to increasingly oppressive servitude*, all to squeeze out more profit. We rebelled against Great Britian over taxation. I also wonder if women were denied the vote because "weaker sex" was really a reference to their weakness for caring about the well-being of others, hence less greedy. * indentured servitude turned into slavery, and the rights of slaves were stripped away over time. Early on, slaves could own property, like livestock, and even buy their freedom with the proceeds. When too many were able to do so, they were limited to smaller, less profitable livestock.

Funds used for elections should be limited to being provided only thru the government and then those funds are equally shared across all people running for office equally. Additionally, the amount donated to this common fund should have individual limits, so that it cannot be made clear that some billionaire gave millions and thus whoever wins then owes that billionaire... of special interest group like AIPAC who uses their donations to try hard to insure only pro-Israeli politicians get elected.
