I worked in cardiovascular medicine for 20 years. There are a multitude of HBP med options. But it depends on other circumstances- like if you’ve had damage to heart muscle, how is your resting heart rate, etc. Tell your doctor if you can change med due to hair loss, it affects your psychological wellbeing.

I’m 77. Enjoy your videos. I thought my hair was thinner due to my age. Maybe influenced by meds too after watching this video. Afib a year ago, on Elequis, Losartan, metoprolol. Dr. finally said stop metoprolol. Haven’t had any Afib events since diagnosis & on meds. Went to Europe and caught RSV, then Aspergillus. Add another strong antifungal, voriconazole for 42 days. Seven months later, my hair is beginning to look better, 3 weeks ago, had lung surgery at Mayo to remove 10% of lung, anesthesia. What a chain of events in 18 months! I check my hairbrush everyday, so far, all good. I do enjoy your skin care review of products. Saved me $$$.

Two years ago, my husband and I got a very severe case of covid. Both of us had to be taken to the hospital. I lived, but my husband didn’t. About three or four months later, my long hair started to fall out. More than two thirds of it just fell out within about two weeks. Now it has come back with a vengeance and is growing at a crazy rate, but my formerly straight hair is now coming in quite wavy. I truly miss my husband.

I suffered telogen effluvium that lasted over a month. I lost 1/3 of my hair at least. It was horrible!! My scalp was SO visible. I bought the lazer helmet iRestore I saw on this channel. You said we may not be to happy if it was for telogen effluvium because the hair grows back anyway. That may be but it stopped falling out fairly quickly and has grown back like it was in my 30's!! I use the helmet every other night. I'm glad I found your video and that I tried the helmet. It was worth it for me. The hair shedding was beyond awful. All over my floors, I had to disassemble my bathtub drain because there was a massive clog! I lost big chunks whenever I simply touched my head. Terrifying. I highly recommend iRestore though!!!!

Honestly, I have learned more from you than from my own doctors, including the dermatologist. My question to you is, can a woman develop hair loss if she has been on an SSRI for 15 years? I was diagnosed with androgenic hair loss, female pattern hair loss. When I asked if my meds could be the problem, I was told no, but I was and had been on Setraline for 16 years. There are no hair loss issues in my family. I hope you can find the time to answer my question, I would be most grateful and appreciative. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge with us all.

A few years ago I had an injury that caused nerve injury/damage that required surgery. Afterward, the nerves were so irritated and painful that I was prescribed gabapentin to calm them down. I was on the medication for months and during that time my hair began to shed in large clumps. When washing my hair, I'd end up with a baseball sized wad of hair in each hand. ☹ Thankfully I could stop the medication after everything healed from surgery. However it took a long time for my hair to fill back in.
@kristennelson31907 ай бұрын
I JUST experienced this 2 nights ago!!!!😮 I began taking Gabapentin because the nerves were affected in my foot due to ulcers, which made it feel like my skin was being burned off (no exaggerating - it's was so surprisingly painful). Anyway, a few nights ago, I had noticed some more than usual stray hairs showing up everywhere. My pillow, the shoulders of my shirt. The next day was wash day, so I took my hair down to brush it - I'm telling you the floor beneath my feet was black because it was covered in So much shed hair. Then I washed it, and that finally made me cry - I was pulling wads and wads of hair off. I looked into gabapentin and saw it might cause some hair shedding, but I had Also just used a different brand of hair dye the week previous, so was unsure of the exact cause. I'm so thankful for your comment, and amazed and grateful that Dr.Dray posted this video when she did.💜💜💜

This video is timely in that my mom who is 97 just had a hair tragedy over the weekend. I'll preface this by saying that does not have the sensory perception that a younger person has, meaning that she doesn't feel heat, cold, scratches etc on her skin. Her doctors say it's due to her age and normal. Anyway, her hair is completely gray and she had her hair in rollers and she was drying it with a blow dryer, and I smelled that awful burnt hair smell and sure enough the hair dryer was burning the hair right off her head. I know hair can take some pretty high heat so now I'm wondering if her hair is in just terrible condition, is the hair dryer old and getting too hot, are medications causing her hair to be in a different state than it used to be in? I just couldn't believe my eyes when parts of her hair were now about 1/4" long and the rest is still wrapped around the curler, other parts of her hair are singed yellow. So sad but at least her hair grows fast and she's a good sport.

Since being on it I've had so much relief from the seborrheic dermatitis. I use it about once a month or less to keep it in check. Now I'm startin to have second thoughts. 🤨 I've also been on Spironalactone 200mg/day for HRT (MtF trans woman here). Which has helped my hair a lot. Unfortunately, when I moved to new state, new doctor reduced my dose and I was experiencing a really bad hair shedding that still hasn't been corrected. Seriously don't shock your system by abruptly stopping or changing doses of your meds. Encourage your doctor to listen to your real concerns of this issue since it massively affects your mental health. Sending Love. TY Dr. Dray for all your awesome vids.

Hey Dr. Dray thank you for making this video . I'm from India and last year I got diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Treatment is going on but facing massive hair loss. I have given two shots of Rituximab injection and 18 shots of Methylperdnisolone. So can you please provide some information about that I mean does this medications make my hair fall and what to do about it .

Also, tretinoin and AG1 caused my hair to shed rapidly. My derm told me my hair follicles are sensitive to too much vitamin A.

Each time I try tretinoin I experience massive amounts of hair loss. I had to stop because of it and I’m so disappointed since it’s considered the “gold standard “

@@chellebell8156 My hair has really thinned over the last year of using Tretinoin vs when I was using Adapalene. I have read small amounts of topical Vitamin A can actually regrow hair so I am hoping this is just a coincidence for me. Along with missing the tails of my eyebrows. I am in process of trying to figure out which alopecia I have. It is disturbing not to know what is the cause!

I get telogen effluvium about 3 months after being hospitalized and given high dose methylprednisolone/solumedrol, also get deep Beau's lines, but that could be due to my ILD.

Beta blockers this past year: 1/3 hair volume lost over the months I was using it. Hair fall slowed the day after stopping it, and eventually stopped shortly after. One more start stop cycle with propranolol made it clear it was this drug.Very upsetting that such a great class of drugs (I prescribe it often) for PVCs and anxiety is off limits for those who are unlucky enough to experience this.

Thank you for your video! I'm just coming off Telogen Effluvium, and to your point, it's tricky. I started new RA medication that's known to trigger hair loss, but my iron and ferritin was also low. I changed Rheumatoid meds and I'm on an iron supplement. My excessive hair loss finally stopped about 3 weeks ago; I lost close to 40% of my hair. 😢

I was using amino acid shampoo (high end amino acid based surfactant shampoo) since all the high end non-stripping shampoo products here are based on amino acid based surfactants. I noticed I shed a lot more hair with these high end shampoos that are sold by pro shops catering to hairdressers. I didn’t even notice about this while I was using them, just kept wondering why my hair comes out in clumps everyday and getting thinner. But 3 months ago I experienced scalp irritations (due to the wrong coloring process at my hairdresser) and had to switch my shampoo to the medicated shampoo which wasn’t amino acid shampoo. Suddenly I noticed my hair became shiny and like my hair went back to the hair I had when I was in elementary school (I’m in 40s lol). My hair shedding is much less now and I don’t experience oily scalp or smelly scalp only after one day. Of course I had to go to my dermatologist for the scalp irritations and had to take medications because my scalp became red and got super irritated because of the coloring chemicals, so it’s not only because I switched to the new shampoo that is not amino acid surfactant base. But I concluded the amino acid shampoo in general is not good for my scalp and hair. Now because my scalp is properly washed and rinsed out without so much residue which is usually left when washed with amino acid shampoo (it leaves residue…), I feel like my gray hair is getting less and definitely more hair is coming out now. Clumps of hair don’t come out now. The shampoo is anti dandruff which has salicylic acid and sulfur so it’s clarifying shampoo but it’s formulated to be gentle as well. I felt dumb founded after listening to so called beauty gurus and spent so much money on the high end shampoo. I think it’s important to find non-residue suitable shampoo that washes out properly so hair and pores can be clean. Clogged pores and oily scalp is a cause of hair loss in my experience. Thank you for the interesting topic btw. I enjoyed the video.

Could hair loss now in my late 20s be caused or accelerated by two rounds of accutane from my late teens? Or can it only be caused by medications while you are actively on them?
