From Wikipedia....."The dish was reportedly created at the Lincoln Grill restaurants in Hilo, Hawaii, in 1949 by its proprietors, Richard Inouye and his wife, Nancy, at the request of teenagers from the Lincoln Wreckers Sports club seeking something that differed from a sandwich, was inexpensive, and yet could be quickly prepared and served. They asked Nancy to put some rice in a bowl, a hamburger patty over the rice, and then top it with brown gravy. The egg came later. The teenagers named the dish Loco Moco after one of their members, George Okimoto, whose nickname was "Crazy” because of his crazy antics. George Takahashi, who was studying Spanish at Hilo High School, suggested using Loco, which is Spanish for crazy. They tacked on "moco" which "rhymed with loco and sounded good".

The Loco Moco is considered one of the most popular dishes in Hawaii and is even served in several Hawaiian restaurants on the mainland. This dish has many variations, but the original Loco Moco was reportedly created at a restaurant in the town of Hilo, on the island of Hawaii in 1949. The dish came in response to requests from a group of teenagers seeking a dish that was an inexpensive alternative to a sandwich, but was still quick and easy to serve. The response was a bowl of rice and a hamburger patty, topped with brown gravy. The teenagers named the dish Loco Moco after one of their sports club members named Loco, and added the Moco simply because it rhymed. The fried egg was later added and now completes the local favorite.

What is Spam Musubi?
@ADreadedShadowGaming
@ADreadedShadowGaming 2 жыл бұрын
@@kaliflower9197 it’s a Japanese inspired Hawaiian hybrid type dish. It’s styled after Japanese onigiri (rice ball wrapped in seaweed), it has variations but most traditionally is usually: rice and nori (seaweed), with spam, sometimes teriyaki, furikake, or other seasoning. In Hawaii they’re a big staple and are found anywhere from restaurants to on-the-go snacks at gas stations.

Hello. Thank you for the video. Would some of the honored guest or their family members provide some recipes? I always love hearing about life and the food there. Maybe the lentil patties recipe. Also, when honored sir said that all the ingredients for loco moto were readily available in his village, my mind went to what would be cooked with the same ingredients at the honored guest homes.

My husband loves Loco Moco,, I like it but not the egg part! Lol, but we make it at home once in awhile or he orders it at the King’s Hawaiian restaurant in Torrance, California, the same company that makes the King’s Hawaiian dinner rolls.. I think there’s only one King’s Hawaiian restaurant… even when we do go to Hawaii, he says he has to have the real deal from Hawaii. My mom use to make steamed white rice, put a hamburger patty and gravy over the rice minus the egg, for dinner. I love how these guys are ready to taste new foods to them and they really enjoy it. And I love that all praise God before eating because they’re thankful and grateful for the food. 💖😁
