If there is one thing that i can't actually stand in college football its the players who have played 7 years, been to 3 schools and seem to always find a magical year of eligibility left. I am going to talk about 8 players who need to move on from the game and move on to the next stage of life, enjoy!

My oldest son received an extra year~ along with his redshirt season. He redshirted, unfortunately due to injury and switched positions. He stuck it out at that school (D2 ) Graduated and was accepted into dental school. The extra year afforded him an opportunity to pursue his NFL dream ~ he transferred to a D-1 school. Safety/DB good size decent speed, very physical, high football IQ from once being a QB. He gained the additional year because of Covid. He just didn’t keep transferring to better his options. Already accepted into dental school ~ this one year is like a bonus… like a HS player who spends a year in prep.

L take on Cam Rising. He only played in ‘21-22. The other years he redshirted (freshman at UT, forced to sit out after transferring to Utah, and injured for ‘20 and ‘23). He had to medical redshirt this year because in the rose bowl he tore all the ligaments in his knee and the surgeon wasn’t happy with the recovery and never cleared him. So yes, Cam’s been in college a good while but he isn’t abusing the system like some other guys on this list.

I've commented on a few videos regarding the NIL/given playable years and I think we'll see a lot less of this once we get farther away from that COVID year - It seems to be what most players are using to gain traction in arguing their case for another year. It's not my favorite thing in the world, but I think we're starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel with eligibility claims to this magnitude.

I completely disagree with your opinion. Why shouldn't guys be playing at age 24 or 25? If it was such an advantage, you'd see every Alabama commit taking a year off between HS and college or serving a mormon mission or something like that. There is no reason to have a problem with older guys getting a chance, especially guys who, for whatever reason, couldn't quite make things work at 21 or 22

I agree wholeheartedly with your thoughts on players staying in school well after their best before dates. They clog up the paths for younger players and make it incredibly difficult to recruit. I look at a couple of players who did themselves a disservice by coming back this past season. J. T. Daniels could have been making decent money as a third or second string on an NFL bench but after yet another concussion he's out of football for good and is going the coaching route. And Frank Harris at UTSA, he stretched his college career to 6 years and will most likely never play at the pro level. If I were the NCAA I'd close that loophole immediately. I can't imagine a 23 or 24 year old in high school yet alone a grown man in college. Taking it a step farther, I think the transfer portal and the NIL deals have hurt the sport as well Allow one shot at the transfer portal and that's it. As for those QB's who can't seem to move on to the next level, consider the CFL. Not as much money as the NFL, but there are jobs to be won there (see Chad Kelly).

At the end of the day my coach use to always tell me if you dont like being number 2 get better so youre number 1 on the depth chart. Theres so many teams that end up with mediocre QB play that if a guy who's damn near 30 can come steal your spot thats on you. The best player plays in a lot of places. I wont ever knock someone chasing there dreams, this might be there last level there going to play on. If i could make 6 figures playing football over a 9 to 5 thats an easy choice. My biggest issue is with records. In order to make it a more accurate representation of who the greatest players were, only a player’s best 4 years in college should count towards school records. Up to them to choose which 4. Even I could get a school record or two if you gave me 10 years to do it.

They seems to be so self-assured going into college, that they have no patience to be backup and learn. Watching starters get NIL money probably feeds the impatience. Their first transfer, when everything doesn't go right for the first time of their lives, is usually the worst decision they make. Like Scott implies, people will figure out how to exploit rules intended for other purposes; but for some reason, the rule makers can't anticipate the negative effects. With NIL healthy mentors are probably ignored for agents looking to exploit.

I have mixed feelings on this topic. I will say some counterpoints though to things you touched on: 1) smaller school guys that are deserving DO get opportunities. A very quick scroll of 24/7 shows numerous QB’s that had their teams in the FCS playoffs moving up to FBS teams in Power 5 conferences no less. 2) I put a lot of the blame on fans and admin that want instant results and don’t want to “trust the process”. A lot of these coaches are probably more willing to take a flier on a 6th year journeyman because many coaches leashes aren’t all that long. The potential may be lower with the journeyman but the baseline is already pretty well established and that can honestly be the difference in a guy keeping his job another 1-2 years versus rolling out a kid that’s still a work in progress and the wheels completely falling off the season.

the ONLY reason I don't have a big problem with it is because there are over 100 schools. If you cant start at any of them, you're developing from the bench anyway, age of the guy in front doesn't matter imo so it isn't really taking away opportunities for younger men. But if it was like Arch Manning behind Stetson Bennett that would be annoying.

Let these guys do what they want. The NCAA and schools run it and make money off it like a business so these guys are working. Everyone else involved with college sports get passes but the players gotta always be crapped on. Stick to the other videos because I don't believe you would turn a 6th year and nil deal when you not getting drafted or be in a hiring freeze.

Can’t blame the lesser schools for taking transfers at quarterback. There’s no reward for developing players at every position just for the bigger P5 teams to take them if they blow up. If you can bring in a solid or avg starter instead of going with an 18 year old, it makes sense.

So because you don't like it or don't agree they should just give up on their dreams? A lot of factors probably play into these decisions and above all do you really think that is what they want? To be the oldest on an NCAA roster? You can't feel worse about than they do. Cool lil video tho.

these overaged college ballers shouldn't be allowed to compete in FBS schools past their age 24. they should hone their skills in FCS schools if they want to keep developing to make it in the NFL, but definitely shouldn't be in the FBS schools denying younger talents opportunities.

I don’t seem to understand what the issue is, there’s much worse things In College football that are hurting the sport and this is not one of them, all these player will eventually graduate and every one who has played since 2020 will be out. All the madness with NIL and the transfer portal are the actual current issues.

@@Gmonayy189 I don’t look at the bowl game as much. OU comes out first drive and throws the ball 3 times. Like Arnold’s nuts have been proven. He’s young he will learn from Casey regardless of whom gets the start and who the backup is. This day and age coaches are wanting to play the 7th year QB. I get 7 years is awhile to play the game you love at the college level. I just don’t understand the Casey Thompson hate. Guy is a winner in every way. Class.
