Sophy is a self learning program, wasn't programmed for perfect laps it learnt it by it's self

If anything if it's true AI it was designed to learn how to do the perfect lap by itself. This is going to make fast racers so much harder to get around as they'll learn to defend better as rory has just shown here.

If you notice it always brakes early (time gap increases under braking) so it gets the best possible exit from the corners.

That's proper technique for a continued attack. Once you go for a late braking move it either works or it doesn't. Early braking is the only way to sit in the slip forever

16:45 - My favourite bit! Even though Sophy was tough and right on your arse the whole time, when it did slip up at the end it didn't just "elastic" back gain and stayed over 1 second behind until the finish.

That pass at 7:58 is shades of Alonso over Schumacher. It's insane how well Sophy just beats defensive or compromised lines with raw pace and perfect adjustments.

From a technical perspective this is about as impressive as it gets. These models previously ran on specialized hardware. They somehow found a way to port that into the existing game. Even if it's in a demo setting where there's only a few on track, this means that they not only found a way to deploy these models locally, but also to make it such that the hardware can take it. Not only that, but the AI is actually much more considerate when attacking/defending, quite a significant step up from what we saw during the first demos if you ask me. We give Polyphony digital a lot of crap for being slow and underdelivering on content, but with regards to the Sophy project it feels like they overdelivered for once. Fantastic stuff, hopefully in time they can find a way to deploy this to all races!

The AI might be able to do the perfect lap but it still appears to lack good race craft. When you know you're faster than another player through a section you hang back a little, get the corner right and capitalise on the follow up slingshot past down the straight. The AI just seem to hang on to your bumper, brake when you do and spoil its speed advantage and never make the most of its perfect lap potential.......unless Sony programmed it that way. Then it's perfect.

Crazy - have beaten it on Expert at Tsukuba and Alsace but struggling on intermediate at Trial Mountain and even beginner at Suzuka - if you give the best Sophy a millimetre it takes a mile - a real challenge….

this is good. if you can practice and continue to beat Sophy Ai, and actually pull a gap from them. that’ll definitely make you a better driver. especially in other regions than EU, we need better splits for better competition. finding the perfect line. finding the braking zones; now the punts they do, they still act like your not there. so that’s not new

Just thinking out loud. So one-on-one, Sophy's car is supposed to have the exact same setup as your own car. Well, what if you set up your car in a kind of weird way, but YOU know how to handle it - maybe a strange brake bias, maybe a good amount of oversteer, etc........ Maybe Sophy will have difficulty with it.

Well done, for staying with it. Now we see how good AI can be... you have to get in front, protect the line, and never make a mistake. Clearly the system needs to be tuneable to various players abilities for, having an AI that most players cannot hope to beat will be a frustrating experience, and games are for entertainment and supposed to be fun. I'm interested to see how this system gets further implemented, so far it's one thing in a follow the leader chase race or 1 vs 1 but how good would this work in a pack racing environment like F1 games, all those cars racing into the first turn... I think this has the potential to make single player games more rewarding - I don't like to play online because I've seen too many games ruined by bad playing and bad players, which I find frustrating (and games are supposed to be FUN) so this shows a way forward. I play all the MotoGP games and they have ANNA, their supposed neural learning engine, but Sophy is far superior.

If and its a big if, the AI is actually tuned to match the competing human driver's skill on a case for case basis then this is fair and a great defense teacher. However, if all AI are set to the same level of proficiency, then drivers with lesser talent will never beat them and consequently will never learn from it because they will always be behind. GT7 has to be careful with the AI programming here, presumably the AI's can be set to different ability levels as a percentage by the player? Doing that will allow the player to set the AI at a lower percentage of ability and then gradually upgrade the AI as his skill level improves, thus always giving the player a challenge. What do you think?

I think that's why. You get a slight delay from the AI so that u can have a chance to beat it. If it where having perfect starts it would 100% beat u everytime off the line

Well surely this AI is a good thing... for like ever all AI has been terrible in all console genre's, up until now, where we faced no competition. Now we have an AI which gives you a proper race, surely makes us think again and work harder at every point of our race craft, in every corner. I applaud this and think this will show the single play gamers for either the tantrum ( I can't do this brigade) or the ones that can preserve with their craft. Who doesn't want competition to hone their craft....

She adapts in every situation depending on the player's drivability. Those emojis changes her mood and will tell you when she's planning to attack or to defend. Edit: She's also your teacher for race craft.

While I agree it's actually there to show sony the ai processes in any given situation for feed back. They will be watching all the YT content and this way they can see how sophy is strategizing in real time. So it's sort of necessary for this phase of testing.

It's sitting less than 3 tenths off your tail mega consistantly. I've never seen any sittuation in this game where another onling player can do that. it taking your inputs and adjusting to them. I thought thay they would like to try and mimic real life.

As the car behind you always have to leave a tiny bit of space in the braking zones to avoid an accidental shunt and give yourself a chance for a good run out the corner. It would be interesting to see what would happen if you braked a fraction earlier than normal in one corner, would it just plough into the back of you, or would it magically know and brake earlier and still keep 0.1-0.2 ths behind? If it magically knows then it’s quite unrealistic atm. It seems like it doesn’t have a realistic/human ~0.2 second reaction time built in and can just react instantly.

@@christophersimons7202 it does not take user input into consideration, that would be stupid implementation wise, as they stated in some presentations it has restrict information (inputs) and can only put like 3 outputs or something, for example the throttle would go from -1:1 with below zero values being brake, just to say the AI is fdd basically the same inputs as a player should pay attention, tires, where some cars are and appear to be doing and stuff like that, but does not make sense to be listening directly to player inputs and adjusting, that would be basically a Player AI instead of GT AI

Hopefully someone has had this issue. I'm on ps5 with ps5 version of game. Did update and no sophy ai for me. Another Canadian friend on the same setup doesn't have sophy either. Anyone know about this?

If you check the gt7 site. They claim you must unlock sophy. Have you gotten far in the game? I finished the main bulk of the game so I have everything unlocked. It depends on your collector's level.

If I see definitive proof this AI is driving a car within the limitations of the physics model and a cars performance limits I am impressed. Untill then I see it as a sophisticated rubber-band AI. Ooccasionally a few % more grip level a few % better acceleration/breaking and you have a very fast AI. It looks great but I am just not fully convinced the AI drives these cars 100% perfectly honest. Besides that I guess it is still a massive improvement over the regular AI.

I am almost sure that Sophie avatar for this 1 to 1 type of race has some cheat/boost enabled once it is on the rear and until it is almost alongside the opponent. I see that once you gain 0,2" or more it always catches you and sticks on your rear bumber. So, it isn't a fair opponent yet. And it took it more than a year to make it into GT7 for just 3 tracks and cars. Call me not greatly impressed. At least they try to make the AI better than the slow one they have in GT for many iterations.

Sophy is cheating. The dirty air from being behind should make it so sophy cant handle as well because of aero. But it handles the same no matter what.

oh my God since when have we started comparing "super intelligent AI" with polyphony digital programming if it was AI it wouldn't have just tried to kill you it wouldn't block your lines they wouldn't degrade the performance of your car polyphony digital knows the exact parameters to run a perfect lap no human being is ever going to run a perfect lap or you're not a human being I can run 20 laps it's Suzuka and none of those labs are exactly the same polyphony digital has the ability to make their car run that line over and over and over and over but I've been watching about five videos this morning and it seems to me it's just as murderous and insane as ever it's just running a better line that's all and they're degrading the other persons car it was absolutely clear in one of the videos that the breaking points and changed the tractional coefficient has changed and the steering input had changed racing against the so-called super intelligent AI it's not intelligent it's not AI it's just running the programming in perfection and sense polyphony digital understands what those exact parameters are they can make that car run it over and over and over again what is it with these creators they need to make it sound like Gran Turismo is the greatest game in the world let me tell you what will make Gran Turismo great when I can play it off-line without Sony sticking their nose in my business making a single player game online only people quit talking about that after two weeks because their videos aren't promoted and so he doesn't "give them anything"it's really hard to find the truth anymore dial days when everyone's being paid to produce content they have a name for that
