I don't know why people constantly get disappointed/surprised by anime and/or movies not mentioning every detail/event that happens in a novel or novel series. Video format is so vastly different to written, you only have so much time to convey events to the viewer.

@@Kyle_116 it's a little disappointing when the anime could have skipped some useless echhi fan service scene to make time for more impactful scenes.(overlord still does a great job but it censors or downplays certain scenes too much)

@@DarkSnakeReacts What he meant is that Season 2 and Season 3 were released in 2018, and Season 4 was released this year. A four year gap between the seasons, but it was *WORTH THE WAIT.* One of my favorite animes, and truly a masterpiece when it comes to storylines, music and animation effects. Not to mention that they have legit one of the best lines and quotes which relate to real life and have such a deep meaning in them, oh and the fact that some scenes can make you legit cry and sad from the plot. There's a movie in the making that's probably releasing next year or 2 more years, and then perhaps even a season 5 - which is not confirmed yet (But since the anime always has such a positive feedback, rating and a big loving community so its very very likely)

My favorite anime are higurashi (but I recommend the VN) Puella Magi madoka magica, No game no life and made in abyss

Higurashi anime is pretty faithful. They only change a like 2 things and has unique content the VN doesn't have. =3 Though if you stick with the VN then when you move to the sequels that are better in VN you won't change as much. I like Saki, No Game No Life, and Lycoris Recoil as my 3 tops. =3 Puella Magi and Made in Abyss are great too though. =3

The anime tried to sell the horror and crazy aspects which came at a detriment to the characters and atmosphere although the atmosphere is still pretty good in the anime. The VN is much more on making you experience the world and setting a creepy and uncertain atmosphere (with an amazing soundtrack), Mystery and deeply developing the character until you perfectly understand each of their actions and while there are gory scenes its not the focus. the manga which is an amazing adaptation higu as well as Umi completely sets on grotesque imagery to drive the unsettling feeling home it can't do with music as it's a manga. I know slow burning VNs aren't for everyone especially not with this generations ever decreasing attention span (this is coming from someone with ADHD) but spending so much time with the characters really I let's you slowly over some weeks maybe month get familiar with them more than an anime can ever do due to the everyday interactions which is why I like the visual novel and light novel as well more than anime nowadays. A story sticks much more in my head if I didn't binge it in one day though it doesn't have to take 9 month like it took me to read Umi. Anyway I rambled enough last thing is best soundtracks: 1. WTC 2. Made in Abyss 3. Persona

This anime has stuck with me for a long long time and I want more people to witness the show as well. I can also give you a summary on what the first arc is about if you want.

So if a player kills you (there is a group called “Black coffin” that is only in the game to kill people) or a creature kills you that’s it. If someone try’s to take the gaming equipment off of you, you die as well. That’s all I can give without spoiling anything. I think you’ll really like it from the first episode but I’d say if you don’t 5 episodes in Ill understanding if you don’t want to finish it.

@@DarkSnakeReacts Thats a fair comparison, but that Aspect of the show is very slow paced. Stuff that happens in 1 or 2 episodes of GoT takes a season of Overlord. The Anime is mainly a dark power fantasy with many other elements. Many Isekai suffer from the overpowered MC trope and Overlord is sadly the same. The investment in tension and believability suffer immensely under this. Its certainly entertaining, but if I had to choose this or something like Mushoku, I´d pick Mushoku every time. You are in the very lucky position to be able to enjoy the best fruits of an entire industry for quite a while^^

@@cronos4024 All true, but in this case, I think the main character being overpowered is the whole point. You could look at it as how an overwhelming power reacts to being in a new world, and how a world reacts to the sudden appearance of an overwhelming power in it. To me, the investment in tension and believability always came from what happens to the mortal characters. Enri's Goblins, Lizard race, or the women kept by Eight Fingers, for instance.

@@cronos4024 The other person already said it but its true that Overlord having an OP MC is the entire point. We're not meant to watch him struggle, instead we're supposed to look and see how the world reacts to this new and powerful force that came out of nowhere. It is interesting watching how the different nations and people all react to Ainz's actions and as such, people get invested in the world, not just Nazarick. The tension comes from watching the other characters attempt to survive our MC and his merry band of evil NPCs.

In fact I would say it uses it quite expertly to construct it's plot points and lets it drive the story forward in quite believable fashion. It is quite slow paced tho but that is because a lot happens in the world at large and because from world building standpoint seeing things through some of the side characters' eyes gives interesting perspectives to the story that play into the expert use of the overpowered MC trope. The main character and their faction is not the only thing we care about, so when they are set against the MC we hope the best for them even though the chances are slim.
