There are only a Couple of musical talents like that born every century. Angelina is one of them.

Angelina Jordan was 9 years old when this song was recorded. It was a tribute to Screamin Jay Hawkins who was quite a character. Most of the times he performed the song rising from a coffin in a voodoo style. Angelina is Norwegian, her full name is Angelina Jordan Astar. Her father is Swedish, her mother is Norwegian from a Japanese father and Iranian Mother Mery Zamani who is a poet and a painter and was a child prodigy in her own rights. She started singing at the age of one and a half when she fell in love with Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”. A year later she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and showed lot of interest in artists like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, and Louis Armstrong. Angelina pestered her mother to enter her in “Simons Show” as she called it from the age of 3. Her mother relented and entered her in Norway Got Talent at the age of 7 where she auditioned with Billie Holiday’s Gloomy Sunday. She went ahead to win the the big prize at the finals where she received 46% of the votes while the remaining 9 finalists combined received 54%. Angelina said she likes singing because she wants to bring joy and love to the whole world. One of her dreams from a very young age was to sing at the Nobel Peace Prize concert. She accomplished that at the age of 8 singing Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World. After winning NGT, she was flooded with offers from major music labels as well as Disney but they were all turned down by her and her family in order for her to continue her education and to protect her artistic integrity. Her uncle/manager in an interview last year he talked about music labels top executives who would fly to Norway on private jets with huge contracts offers but would leave mad and frustrated because they never expected being turned down. Angelina is fluent in Norwegian as well as in English. She also speaks some Swedish which is very close to Norwegian and probably learned it from her father. She also speaks Farsi which she learned from her grandmother as well as some Japanese that she picked up from her grandfather as well as her mom and uncle who lived for a period of time in Japan. She actually performed a Japanese song at a concert in Japan. Most of her performances after NGT were for charitable children organizations where she helped to raise millions. At the age of 6 and while travelling in another country with her family, she came across a young orphaned shoeless girl who was weighing people on a bathroom scale for some coins in order to support herself and her siblings. After chatting with her for a while and without prompting from her family, she gave her shoes to the orphan girl. She recorded that incident in her diary and vowed to always sing barefoot when doing that in public to remember that girl and to remind herself and us about the many needy children around the world. At the age of 9 she wrote and published a book about that encounter making her Norway’s youngest published author. Proceeds from that book are donated to children charities. Angelina Jordan has about 140 songs in her repertoire. Late last year she signed with Republic Records as their highest priority new artist. Her versatility is unmatched. Angelina is a musical genius. In fact she was 9 years old when she recorded this. She has 5 originals: '7th heaven', 'Million Miles', 'Shield', 'Oslo' and 'What is life' and more than 130 covers. She chooses and arranges the songs since she was 7 years old at least. She is fantastic.

As you’ll hear, her voice at 7 years old covering Billie Holiday is something you’ve never heard before. And now in her early teens, she is, without any reservation, the best singer I’ve ever heard. As is the case 99.9% of the time, I was giggling like a little girl and wiping away the happy tears running from my eyes. I've been following this young lady for around 6 years now, and have listened to all of her songs dozens of times, so now, I look for reactors just discovering her, and I become one of their subscribers, to watch their journey. Yes, this has become a classic on its own. Here, Angelina, at 9 yrs 2 mos old, has captured the essence of the original song by Screamin' Jay Hawkins in 1956 in her arrangement. In the intro you can see her writing out and passing last-minute changes to the arrangement to a member of the band. They may have gone in that day and been taken aback by playing for a nine-year-old, but by the end of the day they were calling her, "The Boss." After auditioning for Norway's Got Talent at seven and winning it at eight, she was literally a professional by age 9! Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman, who has chosen to keep his life private. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age after listening to Whitney Houston on KZfaq. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet and married a Japanese man who passed away in 2019. Angelina speaks Norwegian, Farsi, English and Japanese. You may think this an exaggeration but listen to more of her many performances (125+ covers plus original songs - all on YT) and you will see! She has been performing at a high level all over the world since age 8 when she won Norway's Got Talent singing Billie Holiday , Nancy Sinatra , and Gershwin. This is because Hawkins was the original shock rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Thanks for this amazing first reaction with Angelina, Rogue. This is the homage of Angelina to Screamin' and isn't an imitation, er reinterpretation of a singer she has listened to and admires. Certainly not many adults know him, certainly the only girl in the world who knows him and who also thinks of singing him without any fear is she. This is Angelina, the incredible magical little girl. It's incredible that this adaptation is all her own (the sheets written) and that at that age she was able to evaluate and transform, according to her sensitivity, such a particular and powerful song 😊 ❤️ This is probably the best reinterpretation made by a singer in over 60 years of this song. When she actually became 10yo her age was no longer an issue IMHO. She chooses all her own songs & does all her own arrangements ever since she was very young, even when she did Screaming Jay Hawkins “I put a spell on you”, at barely 9, even at 7 & 8 on NGT (Norway’s Got Talent). On “I put a spell on you” Angie said it in an interview (when she was around 10 at interview) about this song: “It means love Desperate love. Why Angelina always sings barefoot - When Angelina was 6 years old, she was traveling with her grandmother and met a poor girl with no shoes trying to make money on the streets. They talked for a while and discussed their dreams. It was cold and the girl had scars on her feet. Seeing this, Angelina took off her shoes and gave them to the girl. The girl thanked her and told Angelina she would pray for her every day. That day Angelina made a vow to always sing barefoot until all the children of the world could have shoes. To this day, whenever Angelina is performing in public, she sings barefoot as a way to remember that little girl and to remind us that there are less fortunate people in the world that could use our help.

my fav Angelina story is about these musicians that worked with her quite a bit and called her "Boss" because she took charge of arrangements and recording to get the song and arrangements just like she wanted. At the beginning they show the director reading a note from her about what she wanted done. At 9 !!!
